Marsdinho Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Newcastle-transfer-gossip-Alan-Smith-available-on-loan-as-he-enters-final-months-of-contract-article821250.html I know he's played midfield for the last few years, but could be a good option as cover for Ricky. Wages could be high, and I guess he wants first team football. CHDAJFU Thoughts?
Marsdinho Posted 27 October, 2011 Author Posted 27 October, 2011 Man Utd converted him to midfield, guess he has been in that position too long to be considered for a forward role.
This Charming Man Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Nah, I prefer our way of doing things, rather than chucking money at Premiership has-beens.
Dellman Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Why this obsession with has-beens? We're building for the future
This Charming Man Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Though he has zero pace, so he would fit into our side well.
SuperMikey Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Wages would be massive, think he was touted around on the Summer HCDAJFU thread. Younger and better out there.
Mowgli Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 In a word - no. Why, why, why when we are tracking up and coming proven scorers like Rodriguez, Maynard, Rhodes and developing our own youth talent would we pick an ageing donkey like Smith?? Apart from everything else, his lack of discipline on and off the field would not impress NA or NC.
Saint Mikey Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Awful, awful player. I agree that now we shouldn't be going for a player like this. But, to be fair to Smith, he was far from an 'awful' player. Was very decent at Leeds and has got 19 England caps. At 31, I'm sure he'll do a decent job for a C'ship side. Maybe even Leeds, if they'll have him back after signing for Utd.
Saint Mikey Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Oh, and I've just remembered how he pulled Dean Richards' (RIP) pants down at Elland Road, to score a very good goal...
Big_Bald_Si Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 He's a c**t. Wouldn't fit into our mentality.
Saint_clark Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Underrated player IMO, but doubt he would fit in here. Certainly wouldn't want to be back-up to Rickie when he can easily be first choice in this league.
ottery st mary Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Legs have gone and carrying an injury to one of those missing legs.....
Chez Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 love him as a player, gives absolutely everything and if he was free from injury I would take him without a second thought.
eurosaint Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 He's a c**t. Wouldn't fit into our mentality. Would suit the Skates down to the ground then ! Overpaid, overhyped, injury prone prima donna, fits their profile perfectly !
Gemmel Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 What a player in his day! Injuries have caught up with him though and others have mentioned, it would be hard to see a cultural fit. This team is being built around, youth and potential, with the steadying stewardship of more expereinced players. I am sure that this is room for another 30 year old, but don't think it is Alan Smith. Having said that I would not want to be playing against him, he could probably do a very very good job in this league.
jimbojones10 Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Hes a slow midfielder these days with limited range of passing, before he badly broke his leg he was a sensational striker but those days are long gone. So no
sambosa75 Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 I think some of you are still thinking of him as a forward. He hasn't been a forward since mid-way through his Man Utd days. His legs have gone and he is now a very pedestrian, sideways ball merchant. Don't get me wrong, runs himself in to the ground whenever he gets a chance but he is more or less guaranteed a booking whenever he plays and would add absolutely nothing to our side as our game isn't really based around midfield "breakers".
SNSUN Posted 27 October, 2011 Posted 27 October, 2011 Big hothead, could disrupt a settled camp. Has a very inconsistant goalscoring record which is why I think he was converted to a midfielder. We need a striker, not a midfielder, hence no thanks. (Would be expensive too.) On a pros and cons list, there's far too many cons.
Eastcowzer Posted 28 October, 2011 Posted 28 October, 2011 No thanks Why not,?. He done a good enough job ON USin yhe past
Ekelund24 Posted 28 October, 2011 Posted 28 October, 2011 love him as a player, gives absolutely everything and if he was free from injury I would take him without a second thought. 100% agree but if he was free from injury he would be starting in the Prem not this league!!
John Boy Saint Posted 28 October, 2011 Posted 28 October, 2011 According to Leeds mates he will be very well suited to Brighton.......... and the lifestyle there
