Forte. Needs more playing time, or just not good enough?

He is class. He has the best goal scoring record of any of our players. With his lightening pace and incredible strength he is always going to be a threat at any level. He just needs time and a bit of confidence. The guy is an incredible talent and with a bit of belief he could be world class.

I thought you wanted him played at centre half

Welcome back btw, nice to see you on here for a few days. Whens your next f*cking holiday, tuesday week? ;)

He's not as bad as some like to make out, but I don't understand why we signed him on a 3 year deal. He was a Scunny reject. They were rock bottom of the league and he couldn't get near the first team. Very strange signing. Why didn't we just loan him?

Possibly because scunny didn't want to send him on loan.

How long was he actually at Scunny? Surely NA must have known more than any of us about him, why would he have brought him here on a 3 year deal if he didn't rate him?

He actually scored some goals at ****horpe, had a few periods on loans as well. I think the highlights of his career to date actually came when he was on loan at Lincoln. Then again I suspect that S****horpe were using him as a winger and provider for Billy Sharp and not a central hit man.We may get more out of him if we were to follow suit on that.Move Guly forward and use JonnoQuick out on the right.

You could say his goals turning around the MK Dons game justified his fee alone! :D

I'd agree with that. NA obviously sees "something " in his style and being a forme Scunny player he knew him well enough.

..his turn of speed is a bit out of the ordinary, and he is that sort of impact player (to use NA's pharse) but I don't see him as a regular in the CCC... let alone Prem.

Useful to have in the squad, but now we have De Ridder.... his days must be numbered.

Forte used to be quite a regular at Sheffield.S****horpe/Doncaster/Lincoln.

He's chalked up 200+ league appearances for his various clubs, not so dusty at all, scores at about 1 goal every 7 games. So he's not what you'd really call a striker.Started pretty young as well so that lightning speed might just have the edge knocked off of it by now. Still think he'd be better as a classic wide man if necessary with Guly at the sharp end. Then again he may offer nothing whatsover in the defensive department so extremely unlikely to get much playing time as a wide man either.

Name a better fifth choice striker in this league, and i'll agree he should be sold.

Let's look at Leicester's strikers - Paul Gallagher, Steve Howard, Darius Vassell, Jermaine Beckford, Jeffrey Schlupp and David Nugent. I'd pick each and every one of those over Forte, even Howard.

A player of that ability can play anywhere and still be the best player on the pitch. I'd like to see him at centre half or sweeping behind Hoolived and Fonte. As rightly pointed out at the time, he is so quick he could chase down his own clearances in a kind of through ball to himself type way.

Nothing planned until March now sadly :(

I thought his touch and football brain was suspect but his pace is an asset. Judging him out of position in a weak team is probably a little unfair. Wide in the best team he might have a better chance to justify himself. Adkins must have some confidence in him to give him a three year contract. I do think the reduction to 5 substitutes penalises the fringe players by reducing their chances of appearances as only vital subs are selected.

If it weren't for De Ridder, I do think Forte would've seen more game time this season as our pacy impact sub, but I maintain that we're still a striker short, even with Barnard now coming back. This would be the area I'd most like to see us strengthen in January, as Connolly is 34 now and won't be around for ever.

So his only redeeming quality appears to be his pace. Pace is a great asset coupled with other assets, but from a standing start pace is wasted. Because he lacks a football brain, his movement off the ball is non-existent, and therefore he is always running from a standing start. Any opponent with a football brain (e.g. just about any player in the Championship other than ones from Pompey) will still get to the ball before him.

With better players like Lambert/Connolly he might get the situations that get him past the defence then he could be dangerous. Maybe it will never happen and he will go somewhere else.

I think he could be usefull as a impact sub if we need him to be, he wont score loads but his pace alone will threaten teams and force them to try and mark him, would like to see him and lambo upfront for a few games before i write him off, let him have the last 20-25 mins up there with lambo see if he can cause some damage by forcing teams to keep a deep line and getting someone decent mark him.

Every new manager wants to bring in his "own" - even if they are on loan / on the cheap, so expect the next poor bu**er who takes the managers job to be told - they must sell in order to have funds to re-invest...so ..WHO DO YOU FANCY from those above ?

I've only seen the BBC highlights, but was that Forte muscling past one defender beating another and getting a decent shot away with his left foot?

Whattaplayer!

was that the chance when he had TWO players in a better position to lay the ball off two, ignored them both to shoot from the edge of the area with no power.

he was useless, i'm afraid.

at least the "development squad" games aren't actually limited to u21s so he can keep his fitness up playing for them
