Kingsland Red Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 With reference to tonight's game, Brighton v the 'Ammers, I was thinking about our new found 'rivalry' with Brighton. Until very recently I never paid any attention to what they were up to. Then last season, in a similar way to Bournemouth, they came under our radar. Win tonight and it will continue, lose tonight and we'll be ships passing in the night !!!
Golden Balls Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 There was a rivalry last year because of league possition. That rivalry has passed for the time being. They are back off the radar.
the saint in winchester Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Reading of West Ham's injury list, they'll struggle to put up much of a struggle tonight. As Brighton are off form, it could be a bit toothless. Nil nil?

As Brighton are off form, it could be a bit toothless. Nil nil? Not so sure, I don't know if Brighton will be able to handle the long ball for a full 90+ minutes.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 not at all fussed really, if Brighton win they'll be above West Ham anyway. Don't think we need to be worrying about what other teams are doing for the moment. We need to be concerned about being a lot better next Saturday than last.
Saint_clark Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Reading of West Ham's injury list, they'll struggle to put up much of a struggle tonight. As Brighton are off form, it could be a bit toothless. Nil nil? That's when you know you're really struggling, when you struggle to struggle.
bender Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 I've been to 3 Brighton games this season. They are not as good as they were early on. Will be interesting. I'm more interested in the gap between us and 3rd not 2nd, as promotion is all that counts. There's also the fact that I will collect 11k if ManUre, Wham, Hudders and Crawley all win their leagues.

ericofarabia Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Each time they play Cheatsmuff? When they played Pompey Great minds and all that!!

Matthew Le God Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 When did we last want Brighton to win? Portsmouth 0 vs Brighton 1 - 13th August 2011
Thedelldays Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 seeing as West Ham are a dangenham and redbridge but with john carew....then brighton will lose
ericofarabia Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 seeing as West Ham are a dangenham and redbridge but with john carew....then brighton will lose If they were to sign up Barney they'd be the real deal FFS!!
OVER THE HILL Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 I hope Brighton win but I don't think they will, their fans think the team is not physically strong enough.
Thedelldays Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 I hope brighton lose...they are full of themselves all the time about the Amex and 'Gus' they generally finish about 20th in this league and they see themselves as good as us and will be challenging for the playoffs.
S-Clarke Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 A draw is probably the best result for us, I'd take that.
david in sweden Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 A draw is probably the best result for us, I'd take that. +1....
SNSUN Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 I don't want Brighton to win, I don't want West Ham to win. Draw would be brilliant. Plus people on the wireless earlier were saying it'll be a great game. I'd love it if it were 0-0!
saints-cris Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Will probably cheer West Ham on as Brightons fans just irritate me. However a draw would be the best result.
bender Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 My 3 brothers are Brighton fan and a lot of my chums. There's been less gob****eness from them recently.
saints-cris Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Living in the area, the amount of Liverpool/Man U etc. fans that now 'support' Brighton is utterly cringeworthy. Im rooting for them to go one up, then West Ham to equalise last minute. That would be lovely

Im rooting for them to go one up, then West Ham to equalise last minute. That would be lovely I live walking distance from the ground and was gob smacked by the uptake of season tickets considering they couldnt fill the Withdean. The amount of season ticket holders they have that dont actually support them is remarkable. Their marketing has done a good job, the season tickets are good value & can be bought on interest free credit, and kids go for about £50 a year. The result is there's loads of empty seats of those that only go to the big games. If they dont keep the good deals every year their crowds will plummet.
ericofarabia Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 West Ham are flithy Yep - i bet that Karen brady does a pretty good turn!!
Thedelldays Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 if brighton fail to win this...how many would that be..?
Badger Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 if brighton fail to win this...how many would that be..? Gus out !
Thedelldays Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Gus out ! fir such a cultured team, the like to play it long down the channels
saints-cris Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 if brighton fail to win this...how many would that be..? 7 I think.. smack bang mid-table too.
Dr Who? Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Well funny, they are bvattering West Ham, but cannot get the ball in the net. Draw would be good!
saints-cris Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 How are West Ham potentially 2nd. Awful style of football. They are getting completely outplayed. They are really good at the back though I'll give them that, not sure how long they can hold out tonight though.
stevegrant Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 The absolute ****fest over the Amex makes me laugh, it only holds 22k, cost £100m, and really isn't any different to 99% of the other new stadia that have been built in the last 15 years.
Dr Who? Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Brighton do play some good football. I do like the way they play at home. When they came to SMS last season they really did not play their normal football. I hate Gus though, but apart from that do not have a problem with them at all.
saints-cris Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 The absolute ****fest over the Amex makes me laugh, it only holds 22k, cost £100m, and really isn't any different to 99% of the other new stadia that have been built in the last 15 years. Its the sheer price of it that makes me laugh, wasnt ours only about £30million? I know they have room to expand, but still.
The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 The absolute ****fest over the Amex makes me laugh, it only holds 22k, cost £100m, and really isn't any different to 99% of the other new stadia that have been built in the last 15 years. I spoke to some Palace fans who went there for the game; they said the stadium is good (as you'd expect for that price) but the location is not good and the public transport links are abysmal. Also, there's very little segregation after the game to get on the trains, given it was two rivals they were just all lumped into a massive queue together and then got pelted with stones thrown at them. I think the inside of the ground looks utterly sh*t, the huge spaces in the corners are completely ridiculous.
sfc1976 Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Agreed, for £100 million you'd have thought they could have built in the corners too!
Dellman Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Mackail-Smith looked selfish, fast but running into nowhere, don't think they'll be a challenge; ugly Hammers will be unfortunately.
Professor Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Shame about the result because a draw or a Brighton win would have suited us better but I watched the second half on the Firstrowsports stream and Brighton were awful!!!!

Par for the course for new stadia unfortunately, and only serves to emphasise how lucky we were to be offered the SMS site as an alternative to Stoneham.
The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Par for the course for new stadia unfortunately, and only serves to emphasise how lucky we were to be offered the SMS site as an alternative to Stoneham. Yep, as also perfectly illustrated with the trip to the Madjeski.
Jimmy_D Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Yep, as also perfectly illustrated with the trip to the Madjeski. I've only been there when England were playing, jeez it was awful getting there that day.
hackedoff Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Its the sheer price of it that makes me laugh, wasnt ours only about £30million? I know they have room to expand, but still. It,s only got one stand. When they complete the other three it will be one hell of a ground.
whelk Posted 25 October, 2011 Posted 25 October, 2011 Poyet has identical record this season to Sven at Leicester before he got the boot.
Danbert Posted 25 October, 2011 Posted 25 October, 2011 Poyet has identical record this season to Sven at Leicester before he got the boot. Yes but Leicester spent 20 million quid.
