Chaplow the new Marsden?

He should be given the Marsden song...

Nope. Not until he dribbles from the half way line, beats the entire opposition twice and scores could Chappers become a Football Genius.

The sentiment is right but Chappers is about 150% effort, he still has to earn the Genius tag.

I think so.

He is IMO our best player. Not for his skill, but for his work ethic. If you can get a player like a Marsden or Chaplow in your team it rubs off on the others. He's captain material IMO.

So our best player is the one that works hardest ! Next you will be saying David Prutton was a great player.

I think he has upped his game alot this season. Second half of last season chappers seemed to want to make a name for himself as some sort "chopper Harris" with his tackling. After the early red card this season it seems he's remembered that he is actually quite a good footballer and is starting to play like it.

No, what he's saying is he's been our best player and he works the hardest...

Chaplow was outstanding against West Ham and outstanding against Reading...

Great work ethic, a massive engine (reminds me of Telfer's running), gets stuck in which I love but I do fear his sometimes over enthusiastic tackles when we have a card happy ref in charge. However if you take that edge away then we suffer. You can see him unsettling the opposition.

What's more..the lad plays with a smile like he's really enjoying it out there.

He didn't say that. I like Chaplow but how many goals or assists does he have ? Some way to go before you can compare him with Marsden.

Hold on, you can't have it both ways. You criticise Dune for saying he equates hard work with being a good player and then you equate being a good player with goals or assists...

Chaplow, along with Hoovield, have been our most outstanding players over the last few games...

The comparison with Marsden is a valid one...

I personally thought he was rubbish against Reading -

1. He gave the ball away too much, credit to that he chased back to try and win it back but shouldn't have lost it in the first place.

2. His passing was woeful - too many "hospital" balls

3. Has no pace- therefore couldn't go round his man, when he did mange to cross the ball it was useless.

4. he got caught on numerous occassions out of position

5. offered no cover for the full back

He shouldn't be playing on the wing - but in the middle of the park.

Before he can get the tittle of RCFG, he has got to go on a run beat about 6 players pop the ball in the net just like CMFG did.

You mean dribble slowly in a straight line past some of the most woeful defending ever seen? I could've scored that goal and I would've done it in a more stylish manner too.

Chaplow is a great player to have in the squad. His workrate is unsurpassed and his attitude is superb. The day we got him on board the bus was a very astute bit of business. He was going nowhere at Preston but has grasped the opportunity to revive his fortunes here with both hands. He has all the makings of a cult-hero for us. He adds something different to the team, a doggedness and resolve that few other players have to the same extent.

Yes, completely agree with this. I really like his enthusiasm and drive. Great versatile player for us and would walk into any other team in the division playing like he is at the moment.

outstanding against Preston too, but less impressive at Barnsley. Hope he can keep this form up as he is a perfect foil for our ball players. His form dropped badly last season, not sure what led to that, but we need to avoid it this time round.

Good point Dune,

..was thinking the same myself recently, and not just because of the hairstyle either... Chaplow shows the same level of commitment we saw from Marsden, and he's several years younger than CM was when he came to us (Feb.1999) when he was already 30 ..and didn't Dave Jones get a lashing from fans who saw the £800K fee as a waste. DJ made a few good signings and Marsden was one .

Chaplow may become the new fan-favourite if he continues to perform as he has done recently..not a bad deal for ...£50K, eh ?

Chaplow is a bit like Paul Wotton with quality.

At his best he is absolutely immense and against Man U in the cup we saw that players like Anderson and Darren Fletcher couldn't get in the game for most of it. Just needs to produce it consistently which he is starting to do.

He really has come on in leaps and bounds this season - maybe too eager to impress or maybe the pass and move game was alien to him. Early season too many short passes were going astray putting us under pressure, but now he is really looking comfortable with it and on top of his undoubted tenacity he has added the ghosting into goal scoring positions arrow to his bow and has time after time been thwarted by last ditch interception, goal line clearence, incredible save or woodwork. With the likes of Lambo, Guly and Lala's skill at threading through eye of the needle passes to people running into space he is a majr asset to the club, yet like the rest of the midfield not a 100% certainty to start!! Horsrs for courses and at times his tenacious style is better on the bench and coming on to shore things up when the others have run themselves into the ground.

As Nige says it's not just about the starting XI, and in RCFG in waiting we have a gem. 50, 000 what a steal. About 10 days wage for Ben Haim LOL
