I worry that we'll lose to pompey

Thats the whole point of a derby game imo, the worry and excitement of loss and defeat to a rival, its what makes it such an important game
so true. Starting to get nervous already. I just hope we are still in reasonable form come the actual game. If we are playing well then I am confident we can win, but this game can still go either way. They are no mugs.

What ever happens it can not be as bad as the last visit and the loss of bottle from nearly all our players.

We'll be well above them in the league, and finishing above them is more important than beating them IMO. I just pray to god we dont sing "we've got more points than you" if we start losing, hearing Boscombe sing that was the most cringeworthy chant I've heard in 40 years of watching football.

Dont shoot me, but I'd take 2 defeats and then promotion, over 2 wins and staying down.

Disagree with the bold, agree with the underline.

Imho, the players certainly didnt bottle it; we played a team with prem-quality strikers who made all of four chances and took them. We made countless chances, but with a third-flight team agains a top-flight defence......the minute we had to start chasing the game it was always going to leave us open for a hammering, I'd love to know what might have happened if Waigo's header hadnt been clawed off the line early on.

And yes, painful as it would be, given the choice I'd rather lose to them twice but go up in auto than hammer them twice and stay in the NPC. Hopefully we'll get the best of both worlds.

I think LD was referring to the last visit to Krap Nottarf, the infamous loss in our relegation season. The players most certainly did bottle it that day (Camara excepted).

Being greedy I want both!

Most Pompey fans don't believe that the last time we played and they won at SMS, it didn't hurt THAT much. Not just me is it?

But yeah, the Fratton 4-1. I'm angry thinking about it, and always will be.

None of the Saints fans that I know are bothered by the SMS game, it was a sort of bonus game. Mention the last game in their slum and they visibly whiten.

Lots of skates I know think they're in for a battering. I concur. Some of the more deluded ones think they've turned a corner after home wins against 2 of the cannon fodder teams in the league and are on a march for the playoffs.

I think it'll be cagey but we'll keep the ball better than them, go in at 0-0, they'll get frustrated, get a red card or 2, and we'll stick 7 past them in the 2nd half for good measure.

Could you imagine if the SCUM beat us 6-1 at Fratton Park.

I couldnt really give a fook, if they win so what, let them spank their monkees silly, as Merson says cream always rises to the top. If they win it will be a flash in the pan. We are a club who is not stable on or off the pitch, but I believe the players we have are good enough to beat anyone on their day ansd i am sure the likes of Linvoy, Makka, Whittingham will tell the players what this fixture means to the fans

I worry that we'll lose to pompey. Getting a little twitchy. Anyone else? What should I do?

be calm! sit down in a darkened room and think about all the goals we've scored so far this season and if that doesn't work...drink a cup of hot milk and go to bed earlier.

if all else fails you'll have to join Pom*ey Supporters Club ( YES... I know it's desperate remedy) ..and if the worse happens, you won't feel so bad as ONE of your sides will have won.

Why will Pompey want it more? the nucleus of our team know what it was like to lose 1-4 to the skates on our own turf, so the likes of Lallana, Lambert, Hammond, Fonte, Harding will know exactly what this game means, and more importantly will not want to lose to them again. Now ask yourself how many current Pompey players have played in a Saints/Pompey derby.............both these games have got Saints win written all over them.

Because it is possible that the derby game will be all they can salvage from the season, whilst we could be near the top when we play them and have our minds on the bigger picture of promotion.

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't know whether this is 100% or not but the BBC stats for the Cheats says they have 6 players on 4 bookings, (namely Lawrence, Varney, Ben-Hain, Halford, Norris and Ward), i.e. 1 booking away from a ban.

They have 2 games before ours and imo it would be nice for a strong Ref at Burnley.

It'll be close withoubt doubt, I don't see either side winning by a more than a goal.

We clearly have the better players and sqaud, but never underestimate the Fratton factor. Whether you like it or not it IS an intimidating place to play football when the crowd is up for it and you can be sure they will be that day.

That will either inspire our players or terrify them like on the 4-1 day, the looks on the faces of Claus etc that day said it all. I'm sure no player from either team needs to be told what it means in the area, you only have to have lived here for a few weeks to get the importance.

What will be will be.

I don't want them to be plagued with injuries and suspensions. Why give them an excuse? Try gloat to a brighton fan without peter walton's name getting mentioned. Both teams at full strength going full pelt with the better side prevailing and playing the opposition of the park. No prizes for saying who that is.

I wish we could have played them early season. They have a big strong side, not one we're set up to deal with that well really. Could be a dirty game. All depends if Lallana and Guly show up. If our players aren't up for a fight, or let them attack like Bristol City, then we'll lose badly. If we turn up with the right attitude and effort, and our passing is there, we can win.

i saw quite a few away games last season where lack of fight when the going got tough was a real concern, and i do worry about this game. we'll need an early goal and hopefully be able to dominate them, but i have a nasty feeling certain players won't be up for the battle.

Hooveld, Lambert, Hammond , big lads need to lead by example.

What worries me is we have a type of game like Bristol City on Saturday and they catch us on an off day or a day when we have twenty shots and only one goes in

No matter what happens on the day, both teams are headed in the right direction now. Saints will still be on the up and pompey on the way down. And if that is all we have to celebrate by the final whistle its something to cheer up any possible post match gloom. I'm hopeful that we will produce the goods on the day though. Because I feel its pay back time, in more ways than one now ;)
