I worry that we'll lose to pompey

In some ways we need to try and look at it like any other game, im sure Adkins will be trying to get the team to treat it like that. Our team has enough quality about it to do the business and their team is due for a shake up in the management so their form could well be all over the place. Safe money will be on us I think but end of the season is the clubs target. Win or lose against the skates will not matter in the slightest if we are playing prem footy next year while the skates are still working out a way to stay in the championship. ;)

I just want us to give account of ourselves and not lose. If we capitulate like the last time we played there then that would be unforgivable. Our away performances are a little concerning as we don't dominate teams like we do at home and it's a shame we don't play them at home first.

What makes you think we beat them at home is more likely than we beat them away though?

Are we 'tough' enough, we now there is a tremendous team spirit but are we ready for a really tough opposition.

One thing is for certain though, they will notbe playing for a draw. NFC

Man up. Its a f**king leather ball being kicked around on some grass by 22 men. Im sure you'll get over it.

So unimportant to you of course that you've made over 4000 posts on a football message board and probably spend hundreds a year on tickets etc :smug:

I took it as a joke, but thanks all the same for defending my honour. Best advice yet, I'm surprised no-one has told me to wash my mouth out yet.

Well a number of things. Our home style means we can impose our game more, we will have the home crowd behind the team playing on a pitch we are familiar with (and not a hole), our home form means we are (quite literally) unbeatable there and it won't be so scary atmosphere wise at home if you get what I mean. They won't be getting promotion this season IMO and so will see it as their chance for a big achievement this year and that nothing to lose mentality is what makes them dangerous.

Their season is make or break and they want those 3 points, they know they won't be playing us again for a long time. This is THE local derby to end all local derbies between our two clubs. I'm gonna miss them tbh, without the violence these are the games I (usually) really look forward to. Every away game from now until the game of the pompey match needs to be treated as a dress rehearsal. We need to start digging in, this is gonna be one long hard season.

teams are starting to suss us out. Sam Allardyce knew how good we are, he played a blinder against us. No question that he is a very clever man.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic with your last part, but I agree that it is just possible that Portsmouth could want it more. If we are top and they are still in their current position, then realistically this is all they will have to judge the success of their season. We have to be as up for it as they are. I hope the players know the importance.

Bloody hell mate, blimey what a coincince that you're on here. We need to have a beer.

We're buggering off to Deal soon. Must buy you that beer.

I'm organising a goodbye Southampton **** up, say you'll come.

Did I mention the Fleming Arms is closed. Pray, it re-opens soon. A legendary fans pub.

Pick a match in December, we'll have a curry and find a proper pub, maybe with a bit of music..

Fancy the Concorde? A few ales in The Cricks beforehand. They've got some scrummy ales going on down there right now. You're a Jagerbomb man aren't ya?

Actually, sod it. Let's make it the evening of the Blackpool game in The Cricks at 8. nice pub grub too, they've got a wicked bunch in the kitchen, and you hardly notice the waiting staff...well apart from the Polish one, she likes me.

Relax. Adam will be back, and fit. Their "paper thin squad" will be knackered/half suspended by then. We'll tear them a new one. And if Roman and Vlad are stupid enough to give Gray the manager's job (crosses fingers), then we'll tear them two new ones.

Agree with all of that. Pompey have too many mercenaries without a real cause when it matters.

If we could have

Beat skates home & away but finish 8th

Get promoted but lose both skate games

What would you take ?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To any skates

Win both saints games but get relegated

Loss both saints games but finish mid table

And move on ;)

Damn, I was gonna suggest he went down to WH Smith and purchased one of those fine Pental Permanent Markers - you know the ones with the flat end that make a really nice thick line and ensure that it was the colour Blue.

The skate game. Luckily, none of their fans have enough brains to work out how to buy an airplane ticket let alone get through an airport so we don't have that infestation down here. Suppose the reaction for us will be to just make the poopey takeover thread unbearable for a few weeks. But then unlike poopey, there's still a long life ahead of that thread

I think were gonna have some great results leading up to this one if you see our upcoming fixture. We have Cov, Bristol and Donny away and you have to praise our home form.

By the Pompey game we'll be the team to beat and the skates will put everything into this one. I'm predicting a draw though, but we'll batter them at SMS in April.

Why will Pompey want it more? the nucleus of our team know what it was like to lose 1-4 to the skates on our own turf, so the likes of Lallana, Lambert, Hammond, Fonte, Harding will know exactly what this game means, and more importantly will not want to lose to them again. Now ask yourself how many current Pompey players have played in a Saints/Pompey derby.............both these games have got Saints win written all over them.
