Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 At least they made a game of it against us,completely outplayed today,Utd will have to spend a lot of money soon because what they have won't get them very far.
The Kraken Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 At least they made a game of it against us,completely outplayed today,Utd will have to spend a lot of money soon because what they have won't get them very far. They're in second place.

Disagree slightly Utd just need a new CM and there be fine Anderson and Fletcher are not the answer Fletcher is the only player who could make the bench for most teams, Morgan and Cork would be a better partnership then them 2.
kernowsaint Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 The last time they let in 6 at home was 1930, according to the BBC report.
hamster Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 back to the OP, are saints a quiz question still? I need to know.
Jonnyboy Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Was it Tony Hancock who tried to go the day without finding out the footie results out so he could watch it on MOTD? Thanks a bunch.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Was it Tony Hancock who tried to go the day without finding out the footie results out so he could watch it on MOTD? Thanks a bunch. Although this isn't strictly saints related, it is a football forum tbf! If you were that desperate not to know it's probably best to stay off football forums.

Whitey Grandad Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Was it Tony Hancock who tried to go the day without finding out the footie results out so he could watch it on MOTD? Thanks a bunch. Likely Lads.
rallyboy Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 I was with Jonny on that one - thought I might be safe on a Saints forum! Never mind, looks worth watching - and saves Mrs RB spending the whole evening desperate to tell me the score.

Nobody has actually mentioned the result on this thread yet. For all you know, United scored 7...
TopGun Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 I live in a suburb of Trafford and went down to Sainsburys to do a shop after the game. Lots of gloomy lads with United shirts on and far more than usual Citeh shirts on display in what is a very red district usually! Had to smile.
alpine_saint Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Yes I think so too. A pity the two that were disallowed didnt stand, otherwise we could probably claim to be the only team to hit 8 past them ever.

Thought Trafford was in Manchester, United shirts in Manchester, must be a first, or were they getting some shopping before heading back down the M6.
saintmatt Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Do we not now have the longest active consecutive home winning sequence in the football league though?
WESTIE SFC Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 It took 100's of millions of Pounds for that record to be beaten though
hamster Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 It's still our record. And we can better it, I want Man City in the cup. Rather play Man City the way we're playing right now. A full fit squad and Nigel's nouse, I'd fancy having a crack at them at some point. What a way to announce our arrival on the scene. Man City, yes please...mmmm
scotty Posted 23 October, 2011 Posted 23 October, 2011 Was it Tony Hancock who tried to go the day without finding out the footie results out so he could watch it on MOTD? Thanks a bunch. That was Bob and Terry in the Likely Lads.

Deano6 Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 Do we not now have the longest active consecutive home winning sequence in the football league though? Active, yes easily. All time? No.
ericofarabia Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 I live in a suburb of Trafford and went down to Sainsburys to do a shop after the game. Lots of gloomy lads with United shirts on and far more than usual Citeh shirts on display in what is a very red district usually! Had to smile. Although Manchester Police had a pretty quiet time, there were ugly scenes in Dartford, Milton Keynes, Newton Abbott, Chippenham and all across The Home Counties as disgruntled Man Yoo fans went on the rampage after the match
Tamesaint Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 What p***s me off is that when the 6-3 game gets mentioned these days, the radio media refer to it as the grey shirts game when Fergie made them change their shirts at half time. This was mentioned recently on Talk Sport. To be honest you don't listen to Talk Sport if you want sensible rational information so I did not get too concerned. Last week however FiveLive made the same mistake. To avoid any doubt we beat manu 3-1 (the grey shirts game) in April one year and we beat them 6-3 in October the same year - but different seasons. Talk Sport probably cannot conceive "lowly" Southampton as ever being capable of beating the mighty Man U. 5 Live these days are probably too busy making and playing their incessant jingles to bother to check facts.
paulwantsapint Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 There was a massive difference when we got 6 we didn't score 3 in added time to make the score line look better
rallyboy Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 the lesson I took from it was if you are going to be 1-0 and down to ten men, do it against Reading and not Man City.

The9 Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 the lesson I took from it was if you are going to be 1-0 and down to ten men, do it against Reading and not Man City. Or QPR, for that matter.

ITV repeated this nonsense for BOTH the Saints v Man U FA Cup ties in recent years. It has become a thing of legend, in folklore the 3-1 doesn't exist and the 6-3 was the grey shirt match. Utter cobblers, but if you repeat a lie often enough some people will believe it - like what Puncheon wore to Liebherr's memorial, or that Kevin Phillips said bad things about Saints after leaving.
Jimmy_D Posted 24 October, 2011 Posted 24 October, 2011 BBC News have finally got around to mentioning the 6-3 result, showing that beautiful lob by Le Tissier, pointing out it happened a week after the 5-0 result by Newcastle, and asking if things are worse now because they've been thrashed like that at home.
OttawaSaint Posted 25 October, 2011 Posted 25 October, 2011 yep 3-1 was the grey shirts then we did em 6-3 and then 1-0 the season after
Deano6 Posted 25 October, 2011 Posted 25 October, 2011 2-2 the year previous to that. It was 2-1 to us when the ball bounced out of play and dropped to me in Row 1. I threw it to Mark Hughes, who threw it in to Gary Pallister who scored the equaliser. Still, those 2 points they dropped that day ended up costing them the title that year. http://www.aboutmanutd.com/man-u-matches/31-12-1994-southampton.html Just the one sub allowed in those days.

Village Saint Posted 25 October, 2011 Posted 25 October, 2011 yep 3-1 was the grey shirts then we did em 6-3 and then 1-0 the season after After these victories we had I believe the best record of all sides against United in the top division, although we have been overtaken since. My memory plays me false these days but I believe that at one time we beat them in 5 successive games but of course even better than the 6-2 was going to Old Trafford and caning them 4-1 (Davies 4).

Deano6 Posted 26 October, 2011 Posted 26 October, 2011 Has anybody actually answered the OP question yet?? Yes The last time they let in 6 at home was 1930, according to the BBC report. In fact in the 1930-31 season, Man U: lost 6-2 away to Chelsea lost 6-1 away to Derby lost 7-0 away to Aston Villa lost 6-0 at home to Huddersfield lost 7-4 at home to Newcastle They finished bottom by 9 points! http://www.statto.com/football/teams/manchester-united/1930-1931

Football did exist before the premier league you know.

david in sweden Posted 28 October, 2011 Posted 28 October, 2011 (edited) There was a massive difference when we got 6 we didn't score 3 in added time to make the score line look better ....and was it Roy Keane who got red-carded in the first 20 mins...? Ah ! who cares, it's 6 in the record books anyway....and according to In that Number..it was : 1-0 Berkovic 6 min. 2-0 Le Tissier 34 min. 2-1 Beckham 41 min.
