Proper Goal Celebrations

Forget your clapping and cheering, we are now getting proper goal celebrations, with fans going mental for each goal. The video clip of our goal from the reading end, looks fantastic and was the same against derby.

Those of you that dont go, won't have a clue what I am on about, but for those that do... has anyone else noticed it?

Always found the ferociousness of goal celebrations dependent on how important the goal is. The reaction for going 1-0 up against an average team in the 10th minute doesn't compare to say a last minute winner or getting the 3rd against MK Dons last year for example. The mental goal celebration has always been there.

It's always been the way as far as I'm concerned! I ended up on the floor yesterday in the row infront, with my left ankle still stuck in the seat above me. It's swelled up to **** today but totally worth it.

Haha, always good to come away from the ground with a celebration injury.

And yes, our fans do seem to be going more mental when we score. The highlights from yesterday looked great, especially from the behind the goal angle. Quality.

. The mental goal celebration has always been there.

Of course for the important games or the last minute winners etc, but just feels very different at the moment...... and long may it continue.

Nothing compares to celebrating on the old terraces though

Same happened to me. Lovely goal celebration

It's probably the belief that every goal scored these days feels like one step closer to the Prem. Sure does feel better these days working towards something rather then accepting midtable comfort.

The sheer explosion of absolute carnage when De Ridder scored was class, you can't beat moments like that.

Last season at Brighton was mental when Fonte scored, any goal which results in decent injuries deserves a special mention.

For me, yesterday was the most mental goal celebration since the Viafara/Rasiak goals in the Derby play off away leg.

absolutely incredible night that, and incredible celebrations. despite the result and horrible way we were beaten that remains one of my favourite footballing experiences. simply because of the importance of those goals and the ridiculous celebrations.

MK Dons at home last year, the celebration for our winner was bloody mental.

This season I would say Leeds and Forest have been the two craziest in the Northam. I brought a mate along to the Forest game, he's actually a Liverpool fan but loves coming to our games occasionally. When we scored our third I turned to see him getting pretty much sexually assualted by the big ginger guy who sits to our left. I left them to it.

Last min equaliser at Wolves (2-2) after Vignal had got sent off

Jose's goal at Brighton

Our comeback at Preston

Our comeback against Franchise

JPS against Watford

BWP v Leeds

Stern John's equaliser at Palace a while back also memorable for some nob in no-mans land and the chucking of missiles at the end

Adam at WBA

Some good times at Loftus Road as well

It was a massive draw yesterday and a pivotal result for us. Particularly after going down to 10 men, a goal behind and being under the cosh for 70 mins. The reaction was because of those factors and a feeling that this is a classic Saints team at the dawn of a golden era for the club.

I got a pie punched out of my hands years ago, cant think who it was against. Just got back to the terrace, goal went in, I jumped about with my pie in the air so it would get squashed in the surge and the bloke behind put his fist through it, I saw it sail into the air about two rows in front but didn't see it land. Someone would have got a shock when hot chicken and mushroom hit their head.

That Derby playoff game was the most emotionally draining match i've ever been to.....being down and out and clawing it back..then taking command and then being out again..only to get the needed goal and go absolutely f*cking mental like i've never done or seen before or since.... with, what was it...4000-5000 Saints fans on a cold Tuesday night....i remember feeling absolutely f*cked after that game had finished, i'd been through every high and low imaginable in that 90 minute period... (extra time and penalties...meh)

Lambert v Pompey for sure. Was stood right next to their lot in the Northam, had seen a few goals from my first trip(4 in 7 games..) but nothing compared to the sheer unbridled excitement when that goal went in. I’ve tried to explain the feeling to others back home, but it’s almost an impossible task. I was definitely caught out for lack of derby experience though, as being sat at the end of the row I was trampled by the ‘running of the Saints’ towards the Pompey fans. That one moment made the $2500+ 7 day trip across the other side of the world worth it. Priceless.

The winner in the Preston away game, the year we got relegated from the CCC will always stay with me. A rare moment in the Poortvielt era when we had something to cheer. Two nil down at HT, had very little optimism starting the second half. Never forget the pitch invasion for the third goal and Jack Cork coming up and giving me a high five at the end. Happy day in an otherwise miserable season.

Neil Shipperley's goal at OT, midweek, in the cup, circa Jan 1997. 6k saints fans there, goal was at our end. I ended up 6 rows further forward and when I emerged from the bodies / floor and worked out where I was, realised play had long restarted as it had been disallowed. Injured for a no goal, FFS.

Got in at 6am (car broke down in the snow), immediately watched the highlights. Was a perfectly good goal

Lallana v WBA a few years back. First time I remember seeing him play, came on and scored to go 2-1 up. 5 minutes of going absolutely nuts... Then they equalised.

Oh, and obviously Lambert v Skates. Will always love him if just for that moment.

The Lallana goal put us 1-0 up only for them to go and equalise which saw them promoted. But yes, our small following (thanks to Sky changing the dates about 10 days before) went absolutely mental. I suffered extensive bruising thanks to crashing over the seats in front of me, great scenes!

likewise the Derby play off game saw the most extreme pogo'ing over seats I've ever witnessed. Absolutely crazy celebrations that contributed to the best game of football I have ever been to.

Saturday was pretty big too and my left shin aches to ****. I don't dare think how mental we'd of gone if a winner had been found in the last minute or two. Not quite like the days of the terraces, but quality all the same.

76 and also the 'winner' at Pride Park that night I wont mention the penalties was up there with the best, an unforgettable moment and there's been others but I think Stevie Moran in 84 has to be the one of choice. I was quite near the fence separating us and the skates on their north terrace, when that ball hit the net it was carnage. The surge of ecstatic bodies falling all over the place, as we surged countless rows forward some **** stood on the back of one of my brand new expensive Nike trainers and it got left behind somewhere out of sight. My joy was immediately tempered by the thought of the long eventful walk back to fartton station very shortly with one shoeless foot. Not good.

I looked up expecting to see it flying across the fence into the face of some skate as coins and other objects had been being exchanged all afternoon but in my second moment of unbridled joy in a couple of minutes there it was tumbling towards me amongst hundreds of feet jumping up and down. I took my life in my hands and made a lunge for it, risking a trampling, but a successful grab soon had me joining back in with the moment. That was a sublime celebration.

And this is why, bubble trip or not, I can't wait to get down there in December.

Derby away in the play offs remains the most mental I've ever gone.

Like a lot of people, I end up falling foward sometimes. At Reading on Saturday, I somehow ended up 2 rows BACK! No idea what happened.

Premature Poznan and then surge forward which in effect is up hill now maybe?

I was just watching the Reading highlights and thought how impressive the goal celebrations looked - it is quite rare home and away to get a camera angle showing a whole stand with fists pumping! The typical shot at St Marys looks over polite applause in the Kingsland!

Celebrations at away games are always more energetic than at home, but I will miss the lower league stands and terraces which make all the difference. Take Exeter last season - 75 minutes of dross on and off the pitch, followed by 15 minutes of mayhem, especially after the winning goal went in. The bundle that ensued carried me 20 feet along the terrace - when I finally got back to the group there were still people picking themselves up off the floor! Those late turnarounds make all the away day effort worthwhile - unfortunately the recent expectations at home games seems to take the edge off slightly.

What about watching games on TV? Whether at home or in the pub, I can't help but to jump and shout at any Saints goal - I was in Walkabout Plymouth for the Reading game as the Liverpool fans looked on bemused at the crazy bloke pogoing around the bar!
