Aaron Martin ..

I hadn't noticed Martin was on the pitch until he had that header at goal. Played well though. Still a bit agricultural with his clearances but rather he did that than try and play his way out of defence if he's not yet confident in doing so. It's something that will come with experience and decent coaching though. He really is a fantastic prospct.

BBC report said it was a magnificent one-handed save by the Reading keeper !

It was a decent save but he should have buried it. He went for the near post when going across the goalkeeper was the obvious choice.

It was a great save but Martin really should have headed it back across the goal into the massive space left by the keeper and given him no chance.

Agreed; he decided on a glancing header when a powerful attempt back across goal would maybe have been a better option.

I think that just shows that you were either quite ****ed, have terrible eyesight, or just weren't paying attention.

Whilst I definately had a buzz on, I put it down to not getting out to the 2nd half til KO and didnt see the sub being made. Really dont know how I didnt notice though, eyesight is all good. Il jus say fair play to Martin for playing so assured.

He's a good CB, does his job every time he plays and I'm never nervous with him in the team.

He's not as cultured as our other CB's, but he does his job first and foremost and that's getting the ball out of the danger area!

That about sums him up for me. I think he's going to develop into quite a player.

If that was Lambert he would have buried it. Sitter IMO. Played well mind you.

Jesus Christ. Young centre back gets unexpectedly pitched into the biggest game of his career so far, plays bloody well considering, and all some people can do is have a pop at him for making their keeper pull off a worldy. Unbelievable Jeff...

Considering the lack of game time he has had this season, he seemed comfortable with having to step into defence in a game where we were not at our best and Reading were getting amongst us. Might not have been as cultured as Jose but then one has years of experience and game time. The other has not. Once again he didn't let us down.

I have a tiny problem with Martin just side footing balls off for throw ins when running back to goal. I know safety first is a good idea, but bloody hell, its not Tyro League mate. At this level a player should have the ability to create angle and smack it down the line. I find this very frustrating. He does it on both sides. He never looks to play it back to the keeper, which might be a good idea now and then. If I was an opponent I'd just smack it down the channels all day as he taps it off for a throw and you have gained 50 yards without having to try.

Should have buried the header on Saturday BTW.

Fonte has surprised me this season, I really thought he was Premier League standard but he's struggled to pick up the pace in this league. That said, I dont think Martin is the answer just yet. He should have scored and I think Fonte would of done, but that's not his primary job. Defensively, he did well and is good cover, but I would always have Fonte back in, despite some iffy moments.

Agree with this. It's actually amazing to think he can slot in for us in the championship when he was playing non-league not so long ago.

To close the debate about his header, if the Reading keeper wasn't out of position then he would have scored, keeper seemed very close to far post! Seems AM has come a long way since I played college football against him 3 years ago and our striker made him look fairly average, shows that if you work hard and get given a chance then can get you a fair way, still has plenty of time to develop as well!
