saintchris23 Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Having to sit in on of the corporate boxes for yesterdays game, all the way in the opposite corner to where my fellow chums were situated, I can honestly say that after your performance yesterday, I am so proud to be a Saints fan. I've commented that the away games that I've been to this season have been so quiet and boring in the away end, most notably against Derby, when we had the entire game to sing by ourselves as they put up no singing contest in the slightest and at times at Swindon when it just seemed like the kids were trying to take over the asylum and wind up the numpties sat in the home end......but I stand corrected. Inside the box with the door closed and about 15 minutes to kick off, at the other end of the ground too, my customer commented on how many fans we'd brought up and how loud we were. At one point during the game we sang OWTSGMI slowly and it was like a pin could be dropped in the Reading sections, they were silent and it sounded awesome. Throughout the whole game you were absolutely fantastic and stuck with the team right until the end, even enjoying the banter regarding going up and the home fans replying about having their record.....great to hear. Looking at the team sheets that were delivered before the game, I noticed that they had a 'Number 13' on the subs bench called 'Reading Fans'.......Nice touch, however I think the boys and girls that went did us proud (Especially when the left and right side were singing two different songs at the same time!). On this note, having to endure the WHU game from the corporate side too, I thought we out sung them as well......giving over to a boring and over repetitive 'Bubbles' chorus. It was interesting to note that while sat in the Northam, we think that barring the Kingsland North and Blocks 3/4, the rest of the crowd don't make a lot of noise, but during this game (with it being at night I guess) the whole ground was singing at one point, even sweeping over to the prawn sandwich brigade. Back in Block 42 for Saturday and can't wait to stretch the vocal chords again. Great work.
dune Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 I'm the first to say when I believe our support was poor as it was at Cardiff and Derby, but against Reading despite us not playing well it was good. Had the team done their part it would have been even better.
saintchris23 Posted 23 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Also forgot to mention that Jan Poortaloo was in the corporate suites too yesterday, don't know why, kinda both said hello to each other as we crossed paths. Didn't click until it was too late to ask any questions. God knows why he was there though.
saints-cris Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Thought the support was brilliant yesterday, we were as good as Reading were terrible.
John Boy Saint Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 When we scored the scene was perfectly set for a chorus of "it's all gone quiet over there........ and there ...... AND THERE!". Rather than the predictable "who are you?". As when we scored it was like a massive pub crawl had intruded upon wake.
sfc4prem Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 The scenes in the away end when we scored will stay long in the memory, although I fell over a woman in the row infront before turning around to get bundled by about 5 other fans. I think it was the fact we played badly that made the goal celebrations from the fans that bit more MENTAL.
arfurdent Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 We were sat in the Reading home end and the noise from the Saints fans was awesome. Really hard to stop joining in. When they scored we did not clap and were slow to stand up. Some female behind asked "are you actually Reading fans" When we scored I noticed a few others around us having to restrain the cheer

alehouseboys Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Someone on their 'Hobnob' site said "they were loud but unoriginal", whereas their occassional singalongs with the drum and "small town in p*rtsmuff" were, I thought, highly original. I wonder if the very appropriate "small town in nowhere" retort went down any better? Overall good support especially when we scored, that was the 'nuts'. Looking forward to the up and coming aways, particularly Dec 18th when we finally get a decent allocation, the chance to wipe out the last 2 meetings and, at last, a roof to noisily ram into their dirty faces. ozzmeister Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 I found the reading retort of 'seasiders quack quack quack' quite amusing! Support was great apart from the knuckle draftees fighting amongst themselves in the saints end during first half, pathetic!

I'll second that - as someone who purchased a ticket in the home end courtesy of our erroneous website the support up the other end was fantastic
