Huntingdon Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 I was disappointed in Connolly, he looks like he needs a rest I laughed at NA calling De Ridder a bottle of pop......didn't Redknapp describe Nathan Dyer like that?

saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Maybe a bit harsh on Lambert... A bit hard to look in the slightest bit effective playing next to Connolly. It has been a very good week however and tired legs will explain alot about yesterday. Guly however has no excuse, he barely ran on Tuesday night and I thought he was enough of a liability then, but Feck Me he took it to a whole new level yesterday. B*llocks- Guly runs his socks off every game. Tuesday was no different. My complaint is not his lack of endeavour; rather that he hasn't been offering enough in forward positions. I lose count at the amount of times he play a sloppy effortless pass to Frazer, have acres of space down the right to run into, but does he? Does he 'eck. He stands stuck to the place where he first played the ball into Frazer and it usually ends up getting backpassed to Davis. His 30 second flashes of brilliance are not enough to fool me chap. He did his fair share of defending when it mattered, and who was it that laid off the ball for Stevie De Ridder to score his cracking goal. ? del boy Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Some of these comments show what a high standard we have set - and how unrealistic some people are. We are 12 games into the season and we're 3 points clear at the top of the championship. We had a string of tough games - Derby away, West Ham at home and Reading away - and we've come thorough unbeaten with 5 points. You cant expect champagne football for 90 mins every game and I'll certainly take where we are with huge thanks to NA and the whole team at SFC. Still a great time to be a Saints fan, possible THE best time. Just back from the game, last night, watched at the pub.

Don't disagree with this - do think that when he gets into space on the right, he should be driving forward and making things happen. Saying that, there's nothing wrong with drawing in defenders and laying the ball off to Frazier who then has bit more space to deliver a cross -and he does have a wicked cross. Its also obvious that Guly would prefer playing in a more central position where he can pick a through ball assuming there is movement around him (it has to be Guly/Lambert up front and De Ridder on the right). But the idea that Guly 'barely runs' is nonsense- he tirelessly tracks back and does a job defensively. The best and worst of him was reflected in one piece of action yesterday when he criminally stood still to receive the ball, the Reading player cut it out and bombed forward but to his credit Guly sprinted back a good 30-40 yards to cover him. Saint_John Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 The full audio is here http://audioboo.fm/boos/515345-nigel-adkins-speaks-to-solentsport-after-saints-1-1-draw-at-reading For me Guly is the same player as when he arrived. If other players are making runs off him he has looks brilliant, because he has good vision. However if the team are stationary and there is very little movement then his poor touch shows up. If certain fans want a boo boy perhaps they should look at the lack of movement coming from DC in the last few weeks, imo he needs a rest.

But hey lets ignore the fact that he opens up their defense for our only goal that rescues a point we didn't deserve. Our players have been great all season, a bad away game and you are on their backs with nothing constructive, you need to sort your bloody act out. Pretty sure that Guly gave the ball away right down the other end when he sold us short. The pass that he played to Hammond for his second yellow was criminal. Fact is, he was f*****g diabolical yesterday and getting an assist (granted, a bloody good one) does not make up for a clearly shocking performance. I know he wasn't the only one, but I'm sick of hearing people beat one off over him when all I see is a lazy c*** who when he can be bothered is a different class, the problem being, too rarely can he be bothered. Guly was class against hammers. Oozed class and always made time for himself on the ball. A palace fan mate of mine there for the night even pointed him out saying "who's that, his touch is class" I don't really understand why of all our players Guly gets so much stick, sure he's not always great but the critics on here are a bit disproportionate, has to be said! Shame...

Shame... He just had one of those very frustrating games, incredibly sloppy with the ball, playing the ball into stupid areas and trying to control and move the ball with 4 players around him. He just kept making the wrong decisions, until the last 20mins when he came to life and started to play as he can do.

You don't have to have an agenda against the guy to recognise that this perhaps wasn't the game for him, he was very much a passenger for a lot of it and we may have been better served going with someone else. Although he was definitely not the only one to have a bit of a mare; Chaplow was the only one of our midfield to come out with any credit and Connolly was well below par also. Charlie Wayman Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 Why did he drop Morgan Shneiderlin when on Tuesday everything good came through him. He's the only midfielder with total game awareness and his passing success puts the others to shame. If they '****' this lad about too much he'll want out yet Adders rates him one of the best talents in the NPC. I don't get it especially when Cork is sub-par
callysaint76 Posted 23 October, 2011 Share Posted 23 October, 2011 How anyone can blame Guly for Hammonds sending off is ridiculous! Both tackles were completely Hammonds fault, especially the first when the ball would have just rolled through to Richardson. Guly produced by far the best pass in the whole game to set up the goal, just be grateful that we have players who have vision like that.

I don't get it especially when Cork is sub-par It's what NA seems to be doing with the midfield and to be honest the Cork/Hammond pairing worked pretty well at the start of the season. The trouble with Hammond is that his tackling is oft a bit approximate,he didn't get a shedload of yellows last season for nothing.I suppose that this season with Cork in good form Hammond has been needed a bit less in the tackling department. If you look at the slow motion from Tuesday you"ll see that the Nolan booking is actually from a foul by Hammond, Nolan slides in perfectly legally and plays the ball, Hammond then tramples him and Nolan gets booked,no wonder he was moaning all night about it. If I were NA I'd drop Hammond permanently now and let Cork and Morgan build up the partnership that we'll need in the EPL next season, both very young players with a stack of experience behind them already. Did you react to MLT in the same way when he ambled around the park for 89 minutes only to spring a sublime piece of skill in the 90th to open the game up? Guly is not perfect, but he works a damn sight harder than many and, because he is human, guess what? - he sometimes makes mistakes. To single him out for criticism is ludicrous. Without question, he has been one of our best players this season.
