Graham Murty

Recommended Posts

Had nothing but nice things to say about saints on the telly. If you were at the game (as was the OP and Dune -massive pat on the back for Dune) surely you saw Murty wildly celebrating Readings goals in such a disgraceful manner..............

I was at the game but I was sat by the opposite corner flag. The OP was like a Forest fan saying Francis Benali should never be welcome at the County Ground if he scores a Saints goal against them!!

If he had been giving it the w@nker sign and the big come on, like most fans do when their team score, then yes it would have been disgraceful. You're now going to tell me he did that aren't you?

I like Murty. He is a good old-fashioned pro, looked good in the few games he played for us and is always very positive about our club.

I remember whe he captained Reading to their Championship win, The victory parade went through Reading town-centre on a Sunday. I happened to be in our office there at the time. The office was on the first floor, so at eye level to the open-top bus. I was watching as they went my, Murty caught my eye and gestured for me to smile, I mouthed back " Saints fan mate" he laughed and pointed it out to the rest of the Reading team much to their amusement. A decent lad, having a laugh IMHO.

The point is, he had some great times there and spent most of his career with them, bit harsh for anyone to have it in for him for having a soft spot for them.

Very reasoned and fair. Unlike the OP who sounds a bit juvenile.

My ex girlfriend's parents were good friends with him and his wife, met him after Saints played a friendly at Reading in 2003 I think, really nice bloke. He is worshipped by the Reading fans as it was clear last night, so can't begrude him for going along with them when they went 1-0 up.

He's a Reading legend, with a footnote to his career at Saints.

Over 300 appearances for Reading and 6 for us. Cheers when Reading score, shock horror. Never welcome in Southampton again? boohoo

Similarities can be drawn with Jason Dodd. Now I wonder if he'd have divided loyalties when Saints played Plymouth, or Mick Channon when we play the skates.

Murty comes across as a decent bloke,I can't really see the purpose in calling for him to be crucified.

Granted he's a reading legend but I personally think it was unprofessional of him to go along with it, considering his affiliation with us. Heavily involved at SFC - almost sticking 2 fingers up at your current employers (if he is on the payroll for his coaching).

When he did the 1-1 gesture it looked like he felt he had to, rather than wanting to like when Reading scored.

A large number of Saints fans got the hump, and voiced their displeasure at him at the end, it wasn't just a couple, so clearly quite a few agreed with the OP?

Doddsy would not really have any affinity with Argyle, he only played for them briefly on loan, Brighton possibly more likely. But ask him to decide between Saints and Bath City and you might get a different answer. As for Mick, I think he would tell you in his own inimitable way where to get off with regard to the Skates, but he has a soft spot for Citeh and Norwich.

Having stood behind Dodd at Withdean last season I can assure you that he's more Saints than Brighton, even if he did sneak off just before our winner (and CFSFC's mongy and cringeworthy running track invasion, almost as bad as him watching the crowd for half of the Barnsley game). :)

Murty is doing his A licence, Saints are letting him observe coaching and assisting coaching youngsters. He wants to play again, to see if his ankle could stand up to a game he was given 20 mins in the friendly. He has been doing his rehab at Staplewood with the Saints medical staff. He did after all get injured for us. His discussions on Sky were sensible and balanced.

I can't find any evidence that he played for the reserves last week, or that he coaches for us. Or that he is even involved with the club anymore (although I remember rumours that he was being allowed to use the training facilities to get himself fit).

Though to be fair, it was actually 27th September, so not last week.

Of course he is, I didn't say otherwise, I was stunned that anyone would think he had split loyalties with Plymouth, he did at least sign for BHA, rather than just be loaned to Argyle. He is Southampton through and through, my point really was that being a Bath lad he might struggle more with loyalties between his first club and home and Saints, though the chance of a game between us at the moment is slim at best :-)

This is the most embarrassing thing about football fans, they give people dogs abuse all game and the slightest thing back and they are screaming outrage. Bunch of mongs all those that got the hump.

His career ended when he got injured playing for us which was a shame but he had his career with Reading so who cares where his loyalties are. From previous posts I think he uses our facilities to keep fit for whatever he does next I think his contract lapsed - so what?

I believe he has, bar this one game, always spoke highly of Saints when he's been covering Live Matches - even to the extent of using "we" instead of Southampton at times.

My concern is would he have passed on info about The Southampton Style and Tactics? The Blueprint seems the same across the board having seen our youngsters dispatch Man U's 4-2 a few weeks ago with a wonderful display of pass and move and overlapping defenders.

Of course any scout or oppo coach / manager can come and see our games or even the 1 min 30 secs on The Highlights Show each week and see what we are all about though.

Lets face it Reading played out of their skins and came mighty close to beating us, so I can see why anybody involved with them would be very pleased about their performance. Much prefer him to Andy Townsend who seems to find it impossible to say a good word about us.

I think Beagrie was the biggest offender on the comentary. it would have been good to have an ex saints player there to balance

up the commentary a bit. It was one sided. Also their comments were not helpful as it added to my stress levels the way we were playing. I like Murty as a player and a person and have no grudge against him its just he was wearing his reading colours more than ours

TBH the way we were playing we weren't giving them a lot to get excited about about. It was disappointing in a way (the performance not the result) that in front of the telly cameras we put in an under par performance which probably left people wondering why saints fans are all raving about the team.

Having seen you giving it the large one against your own fans at various matches I don't think I'll bother. I liked you better when you were a website football gimp with the rest of us against Fulham about 5 years ago.

Nothing against "football gimps" just happy to share my opinion with anyone. I never have a pop at people that don't deserve it. If you talk rubbish then prepare to be shot down thats my opinion.

I have a memory as well my welsh friend.

For arguments sake somebody after 85 mins shouted.. Don't give it to de ridder he's s**t... Now im sorry but that's garbage..

That would be Murty who said that. After all he hates Saints with a vengeance when he's not garrotting small childern or raping OAPs - he IS the devil incarnate. Could you please settle a small dispute a friend and I were having? He reckons you're about 13 years old while I think you're at least 14? Many thanks.

The sad thing is that he's probably much much older than that. Football really does attract some sad c\/nts.

Forgot that I had Skyplused this match. Watched the after match chat last night and didn't detect any negativity towards Saints from either Murty or Beagrie. Some people need to be a bit less precious.

Ah but this was off-camera shenanigans.
