Reading v Saints Post Match Reaction

thank fuuuuuuuuck! Not a good performance by our high standards this season, but Readings work rate was unbelievable - can't believe they managed to keep it up all season.

A point gained having not played well and with only 10 men.

4 points from West Ham and Reading? Definitely would have taken that before the games! :)

Phew.

Good night all from Asia.

Yep.

We were awful.

Are all our away games like this ?

Sooner or later out home form will crack; keep up this sub-standard b*ll*cks away from SMS and we can forget promotion.

No. If you'd watched the Derby game, you'd know that.

I also like how you're certain our home form will drop, but you don't believe we'll pick up our away form (which isn't THAT bad for this league).

That's the poorest we've been all season. Never got a grip of the game and we just weren't at the races. 1 down, down to 10 men and we STILL got something from the game. It's a very positive result, i doubt we'll play as poorly again this season.

Be a bit more positive

Well below par but still managed to get a point - overall we can't be too unhappy with the outcome. And as I've said before, an occasional kick up the arse like that is sometimes a good thing.

Reading did well but we brought most of the pressure on to ourselves with some very poor passing, especially underhit touches and lay offs, just like the one that tempted Hammond into his sending off. I felt a bit sorry for him and you couldn't argue with the decision but both his bookings came from him simply trying to battle hard and win possession back after teammates had lost the ball.

We know we can play better than that. The effort was there and I didn't think there was any complacency, we simply played bad football and too many passes failed to connect.

On the plus side, I thought we defended pretty well and given that our defending hasn't been the best at times this season, and we lost Fonte at half time. Martin did well coming on into a tough game, and the whole side battled hard... we would've made it much easier for ourselves had our passing been even vaguely close to how we've seen in most games.

The team need to be hard on themselves and recognise how underpar they were, but not dwell on it too long. We know we can be better and we just need to get back to what we're capable of.

LGTC.....That is why De Ridder should start every game, impact sub my a r s e, he is far too good to used only 5-10 minutes per match.

Lucky to get away with that, Lambert was far too deep, too many stray passes and a lack lustre display until De Ridder came on.

All credit to Reading though, they had done their homework and closed us down at every opportunity.

Would have taken a point before the game in all honesty, despite Reading's relatively poor home record this season, but to get one after the way the match panned out I'm well happy. For all their workrate and pressing, Reading didn't really create much in the way of clear opportunities IMO, so we have to be pleased with the way we defended against their pressure. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't exploit the spaces that were left by Reading's continual closing down of our players.

We miss Lallana, and Guly looked like he hadn't even woken up tonight - can't see him keeping his starting place ahead of SDR much longer.

Hammond's first yellow was a tad harsh I thought, but the second one fully deserved. It's great to have such a capable replacement in the form of Schneiderlin while he is suspended.

MOTM for me was Chaplow. Unbelievable workrate and never gave up on anything. If the rest of the team had followed his example it would have been a completely different game.

Great to get a result after such an appalling performance, great show of character and could bode well in our search for promotion.

Great performance from KD and SDR when he came on. Worried about the lack of protection for the defense. Window Cleaner, I can appreciate your point about the 'injury' to Fonte limiting NA's options, but we had no control of the match up to half time and were as bad after. I feel putting on Morgan early would have been bold given being left with only two subs but was vitally important.

De Ridder was our get out of jail free card today, Reading wanted the game more than us and deserved the win I felt. Fair play to De Ridder though, looked ****ing class when he came on.

I was tearing my hair out watching Guly, how many times did he give the ball away? Lambert not in the game at all either. But you can put that down to us being poor generally in the final third.

A good point at away at Reading, go again against Boro next week :)

Possibly the worst i have seen us play under Adkins but good teams get results when they don't play well and we did that today.

I really hope he cuts out the hoof ball because for the most if it we just punted it up to Rickie. De Ridder saved our ass. Think he deserves to start.

A good point but have to say we were very lucky.

Also Guly needs to be dropped now. He isn't doing well out on the wing at all imo.

I'm not broken hearted about our league position, tbh. The table doesnt lie. Even manure play badly occasionally and still pick up points, why shouldnt we ride our luck? Ive been at work all afternoon and only caught the last 15 minutes on a stream, we didnt look bad value for a point and could have nicked it.

sign of a good team. play so poorly, go a man down and still gain a point.

Fairness to Reading, did their homework and played some football. Gorkss handled Lambert very well.

We did play poorly and Reading deserved to win.

4,000 Saints, brilliant job. Reading fans dull as you like, shame the team wasnt today.
