206 years ago was one of the finest hours of this nation of ours....

against all odds, Admiral Lord Nelson commanded the British Naval Fleet against the French and Spanish navies.

He won a victory for the UK that would allow us to command the oceans unrivalled (till the start of WW1)

Nelson died that day commanding the fleet from the very front and had respect of his men (which was very rare back then)

Strictly speaking it should only be the senior rates mess at HMS Rooke celebrating it, but fair play to all the messes that keep the tradition going, just a shame that the real Pussers rum has now all gone.

Enjoy your evening next week it those bits that I miss the most.

There's lot's of interesting things to see. Visit the museum, a little gem and full of rare Nelson memorabilia.

I know.. I have been to gibraltar about 5 times

In that case you should know that there are lots of interesting things to see for such a small place, especially if you appreciate history.

I fully agree with this.

Pickle night was always one of the best ones.

When were you based at Rooke? I was there when the boarder properly opened; prior to that only people living (or based) in ib could cross it. We had to get a special card stamped every month.

I was based there July '83 - Apr '86 - at that time I was an AB(S) and worked in the MDC. I was also married accompanied and lived in Edinburgh House.
