Dr Who? Posted 20 October, 2011 Posted 20 October, 2011 Does anyone follow an Ice Hockey team? Back in 1996 I moved to Guildford with work, and started watching the Guildford Flames at the Spectrum Centre, and then ended up working in the leisure centre and watching games for free. I was hooked because in 1997/8 they won the lot. I moved away from Guildford to Reading, then back to Southampton and then on to Royston, but still try and go along and watch them. I find it a really entertaining sport and fast pace, but which there was a team closer to where I live now!!
Colinjb Posted 20 October, 2011 Posted 20 October, 2011 I know a few people here in Cov who are avid followers of Coventry Blaze. It is quite a good specatcle to watch but it's no football match.
stkev7 Posted 21 October, 2011 Posted 21 October, 2011 I went to see the Chicago Blackhawks last year with a mate who is from the area, it was fantastic but nowhere near as good as the NBA when I saw the Boston Celtics.
Dimond Geezer Posted 21 October, 2011 Posted 21 October, 2011 My parents used to take us to watch the Vikings (for the youngsters they an ice hockey team in Soouthampton), I loved it, I don't think we missed a match in about 10 years. I hadn't seen a match since they folded, until about 3 years ago when I took my kids to watch Basingstoke Bison, they really enjoyed it. I'll try & get 3-4 games in a season now. Bloody brilliant sport.
miserableoldgit Posted 21 October, 2011 Posted 21 October, 2011 I used to watch The Vikings at the Southampton Ice Rink and went to a few away games as well. Dell in the afternoon and Vikings in the evening! Good days! It really is quite a spectacle.
Dr Who? Posted 21 October, 2011 Author Posted 21 October, 2011 It has helped that the Flames have always been pretty good, and they are pretty rich, but it is a great sport to watch plenty of goals and very fast paced!!
Dr Who? Posted 21 October, 2011 Author Posted 21 October, 2011 (edited) Oh and 7-2, 7-2, 7-2!! http://www.guildfordflames.com/g_tv Edited 21 October, 2011 by Dr Who?
OttawaSaint Posted 21 October, 2011 Posted 21 October, 2011 Ottawa Senators and Gatineau Olympiques...
OttawaSaint Posted 28 October, 2011 Posted 28 October, 2011 Go Sens Go! Just scored the winner against Florida with 2.9 seconds left. FOLIGNO....YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh!!!!!
Saint Martini Posted 4 November, 2011 Posted 4 November, 2011 In Sweden I support Färjestads BK, one of the more successful teams the last decades. Besides that I follow the NHL as much as I can but I don't really have a favourite team. I don't mind the Senators, mainly because they have some really exciting Swedish talents on their roster at the moment. Erik Karlsson might just be the most skilled defenseman in the whole NHL!
jjsaint Posted 10 November, 2011 Posted 10 November, 2011 Tampa Bay Lightning. I've been to the occasional MK Lightning match as well.
alpine_saint Posted 10 November, 2011 Posted 10 November, 2011 I support VSV here in Austria. Get to about half-a-dozen games a season. Kids love it - just bought them sticks and pucks for Xmas.
Dimond Geezer Posted 10 November, 2011 Posted 10 November, 2011 Booked tickets to see the Bison in a couple of weeks, my youngest son is already excited (as am I) & started jabbering to his mates about it, as for my eldest, he is now officially "too cool" to get excited about things .
Dr Who? Posted 16 January, 2012 Author Posted 16 January, 2012 Guildford Flames are flying high again.
Flyer Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Yes hence the user name, no need to guess which team I support. I cant watch uk hockey as its like watching asthmatic fatboys skating in treacle compared to the NHL.
