Some good things, some not so...

Legod Third Coming

I thought you might find this website of interest.

The statistics here make compelling reading.

Our 6 game form is not the best, but here are some things that we ARE best at:

Scoring - we are averaging 2.25 goals per game (sit down if you keep bleating about needing a striker...). Next best is Peterborough with 2.00.

Scoring - it is 12 games since we failed to score. Next best is Leeds with 9.

Winning against top half sides - we are the best team in the league. Stop with the claim we don't succeed against the top sides...

Goal supremacy - ours at 1.17 is ahead of next best West Ham at 0.92.

There are some things we're not so good at but frankly, we're five points clear and I'd prefer to reflect on the above!!! :D

Check 'em out though - and use them in your posts rather than making stuff up!!!!

Stick Jaidi in with Martin.

OK we need another CB if Seaborne isn't going to be back any time soon.

Jaidi's having an operation on his knee and is out for at least 6 weeks. We need to sign 1 or 2 squad players and another star striker in the January window imo, then we will truly be worthy of our lofty position I think.

Sorry, what?

Sorry, I didn't word that very well.

What I meant was the op said its been 12 games since we 'failed' to score. Which implies 13 games ago, we failed to score. Which is not the case.

The stat on that website basically says we have scored in all 12 games so far. Therefore we have not 'failed to score' at any point *touch wood* - Although we came bladdy close against Cardiff.

The interesting thing I find about this stat is that just before we played Cardiff about 3 weeks ago we hadn't beaten ANY of the sides in the top 10. Now we've beaten precisely one of the teams which was in the top 10 back then, but Leeds and Ipswich, who were both missing a few of their current side when they played us, have shot up the table. So the stat is misleading, we beat a Leeds side with a bunch of new players and missing Becchio, and an Ipswich team which signed half a side since Peterborough stuck 7 on them immediately after we beat them.

You can't argue with our league position or the West Ham result, but you can look at the Cardiff, Derby and Leicester results as a warning that the margins of success are still slim. Actually, you can look at the cross getting flicked onto the post and Kelvin diving onto the loose ball late on in the West Ham game as a sign that the margins are extremely slim !

Or you could look at the the Leicester game where Schmichael had a quite astonishing game as well as us hitting the frame of the goal

Or you coud look at the chance late on at Derby where Lambert headed back across goal and it miss Hammond by inches. And Derbys goal was offside.

Or you could look at Cardiff game where Morgan was through 1 on 1 and it was saved.

Or the West Ham game where Guly missed 1 on 1 or De Ridder had a goal wrongfully disallowed. But we still won

Margins are slim both ways. That's football. Whatever will be will be, Southampton are top of the league.

Agree - it cuts both ways. We took only 2 points from Leicester, Burnley, Cardiff and Derby which given the margins involved and chances created could have quite easily been 12. It wasn't to be.

I can't remember any away game where we were outplayed for the majority of the game and deserved nothing. As such, I I would say 8 points from 18 is fair enough, if not a slightly low return on the actual strength of the performances. That said, I think we've been luckier at home -Millwall, Forest and West Ham stick out; but its all swings and roundabouts.

The fact is that when you have easily the best GD in the division, success is more than just fine margins.

And in other news it has been found that bears like to evacuate their bowels in arboreal surroundings.

And equally the margin between us beating them 3-0 rather than 1-0 was also very narrow. Just so long as we keep shaving the margins in our direction.

Quite - and our goal supremacy is quite staggering.

We are averaging more than 2 goals per game - early days I know but in anyone's book that is very impressive.

More impressive is that the goals are being scored by all sorts of people and that we still looked good in attack on Tuesday without our best player on the pitch.
