Anyone else at the game last night think he was great?

I thought he played extremely well, made some good runs, although the only criticism would be his tendancy to cut in onto his right foot. Very capably filled in for Lallana imo

A superb performance, made some great runs and worked his socks off. Glad he was taken off as it allowed a great ovation from crowd and I am always worried once he gets a yellow card.

Played very well, my only criticism which applies to both wide midfielder's is when they cut inside and how open it can leave our full backs, both done well to get back into position and cover but maybe more positional sense when saints don't have possession, not really chappers or Guly's fault as I believe both are central players playing out wide

I do like the energy from chappers and his runs into channels which are difficult to pick up and make us a threat without AL

No need to worry how exposed it leaves our full backs. Instead focus on how scared and exposed the opponents' center backs look ;0)

He was brilliant last night. Never stopped running and working. Did his best to try and drive us forward despite the entire side lacking pace and managed to get a few trademark crunching tackles in.

It is a tie between him and Hooiveld for my MOTM.

absolutely immense last night.

My MOM by a country mile.

100% agreed. Pleased he got a standing ovation when he was substituted, absolutely deserved (and maybe saved him from being sent off in the last 15 minutes!)

Thought he had a great game last night. On the strength of that performance AL could find it hard to get his place back!

Let's not start getting silly. Whilst he had a brilliant game, he's not in the same league as AL.

Chaplow in recent weeks has been a very effective sub, coming on with 20mins or so to go and making some driving runs through the middle and pulling opposition defenders out of position, creating room for others. I fully expect him to revert back to that role when AL is fit again.

Now dont get carried away. Could make it harder for Cork to get back in the team though. I also agree with the point about us being too narrow though at times. When you are reliant on your full backs for width counter attacking is less effective as it takes them so much longer to break, forcing ricky or connolly wide leaving little threat in the middle.

I hope someone from the Board of Directors at Preston saw his performance.......

What fukcing idiot sanctioned the Chaplow sale for 50k

couldnt make last night but on radio him and fox came across as the best two on the park last night.this is a good squad weve got, onwards and upwards

I'm still not sold on Fox. He tries to many cross-field passes (that normally end up in touch) when there is an easy pass on.

His corners though are brilliant. Can't remember the last time we had a decent corner-taker...?

As Nigel keeps saying this campaign is about the team and not about 1 player.

Interesting to note that only Morgan and Ricky have featured (even if it's only for a few minutes) in all 15 of our competitive

matches this season. Morgan will probably be due for a rest on Saturday then but Ricky...well no probably not yet.

They obviously thought Chappers had a good game last night too...

"Yes Southampton are top of the league, but I thought they outplayed us. We have better players than them and a wage bill that is about 3x higher. Yet Adkins has got them playing the right way and they are reaping the rewards. Fair play to them. Until we realise that we have good enough players to play some football aswell and keep possession I've got a feeling there will be a few more performances like this.

Oh and Richard Chaplow looked twice the player of our 50K a week captain."

The mods should install an add-on to the site, detecting any mention of Lee Holmes/David Connolly, and automatically putting "(when fit)" after each mention :)

I very much doubt a manager has mich of a say in the price....unless they are wenger or fergie

Yes that's true but i'm sure Ferguson's treatment of the player and non-use would influence how much Preston valued him at

Posted

He played very well until about 60-65 minutes when he started to look knackered and jog about the place - that sprint in for the shot that went just over finished him off and he put in his "some refs would have sent him off" tackle for the match 10 seconds before he finally got the hook, but Harding had been stripped and ready to come on for 5 minutes by then.

Nevertheless, good effort by him to try and get a starting place.

Hmm, I think Kelvin might have something to say about that. I didn't think anyone other than Chaplow put in an unexpectedly strong performance last night, but we just about deserved the win despite it being one of our less creative outings.

Why do rival fans always assume that they have better players than us simply because they've had a few runs out in the EPL and are consequently paid 3 times their worth.I'd doubt if any club in our division really has better players than us overall.

We have 6 midfield players who must be the envy of the other 23 clubs,it's just that they aren't greedy bastards who are always looking for a bigger pay cheque elsewhere.

I think a West Ham midfield of 4 from Taylor, Nolan, Noble, Collison and Lansbury would be expected to give anyone a game on the deck, but when it comes down to it, if you don't try and pass through the middle of the pitch, it doesn't matter if you have good footballers in the midfield.

He has got himself back to where he was a few years ago when he came on loan. He arrived from Preston desperately low on confidence and struggling for fitness, having gone from a future England international to training with the kids at a relegation-bound ccc club, but we are now seeing the real Lex Luther.... sorry Richard Chaplow. £75k for him is an absolute bargain & well done to NA/NC for bringing him back and sorting him out

Chappers looks like chris marsden on drugs with his bald head on a young body running all over the place

Funny you should mention this, I was thinking CMFG watching Chappers last night

So we paid Preston for Chaplow what WHU pay Nolan every week in wages .........bargain of the century

He's a good player but not a direct replacement for Adam. Chappers has a nasty side to him which can be really effective. Adam will beat players with skill. Chappers will simply cut them in half!!!

I wouldn't say he's got a nasty side, he's competitive, doesn't shirk out of tackles & I think his will to win can make him a little impetuous at times, but I wouldn't call him nasty.

Nice quote, what's funny is that what Nolan gets paid weekly what chappers cost outright!!
