Jaidi to have operation

Very harsh. NA would use him where he is most effective and there is a still a role for him at this level if he can get his fitness back. I always thought he lacked pace but he's quite deceptive really and not many people get past him. Trouble is, when they do, they are generally gone and out of reach. But thats when the full back should come across and help.

Admittedly he was superb at the end of last year....but he was prone to mistakes and will get punished at this level. He doesn't play the 'football' that NA wants to play as he is dreadful with his feet. Superb in the air but thats about it and slow. Would prefer to have Martin in there ahead of him.

Brilliant in the air though absolute beast no one else in the team clears with a header like Jiadi. Games like tonight he's the sort of player you want up against Carew. Fonte always looked most comfortable beside Jaidi IMO.

I believe he intends to retire and start his coaching qualifications, with a view to becoming manager of his national team one day, wouldn't mind him staying on a coaching role.

Jaidi was re-signed to play against the likes of Carew in this league. He was also to be available as an experienced pro to step in if and when we get hit by injuries and/or suspensions to our first choice centre-backs. IF he does not get fit by December/Jan we not only need to sign up Hooiveld but get another CB in because there will be no cover on the bench/pitch if either Fonte, Hooiveld or Martin get taken out....Whether that CB should be an automatic starter and hence displace an existing starter straight away, or a squad player like Raidi, is an interesting debate.

My take on it is that Hooiveld is good and better than expected so far for a loanee - but needs to be "great" by xmas to ensure he is not sacrificed for a "star" name centre back who will go straight into the gap left when/if Hooiveld goes back to Scotland or indeed has only been "good" but not "great" at CB alongside Fonte.

Obviously the treatment he is having isn't working so they are putting a camera into the knee to see what is wrong and possibly could put it right with keyhole surgery. Three weeks should cover the arthroscopy but dependent on the extent of any cutting etc, it will take extra time.

Was thinking the exact same thing. No one better in the air in this or any other league IMO. I also disagree with comments about his footballing ability. He's certainly not gifted, but his passing out from the back was more than adequate last year and like Davis he seemed to get groans when he made the odd mistake, but very rarely was praised for decent passes.

Ridgewell?
no thanks. Hugely overated player IMO, that is not strong enough in the air to play at CB and not quick enough to play at fullback. If you were looking at Brum players than Curtis Davis every day of the week.

As much as i like the bloke and he is clearly one of the characters in the dressing room he is no big loss on the fieldIMO. Think he's a liability when he plays. (or would be in this league anyway).

Don't think we'll see him again in a Saints shirt. QUOTE]

Rather harsh judgement IMO. Everyone makes mistakes - even Fonte isn't pefect, but the greater question is, what is the central defence look like with Jaidi out long term and Seaborne on a long road to recovery?

..We have only Jos H.(who is on loan anyway) plus Fonte and Martin to rely upon. Leaves us rather thin on the ground incase of the unmentionable....
