bridge too far Posted 28 October, 2008 Share Posted 28 October, 2008 I've notice lately that all our new members have really weird user names. For example, today's newby: enlaclepe But all the people actually visiting the site have normal(ish) u/names.

For example, today's newby: enlaclepe But all the people actually visiting the site have normal(ish) u/names. They're spam bots, usually originating from Russia or China. Fortunately, because we use a two-stage registration filter process, none of them ever get through to actually being able to post, although just their profiles being available can be a problem in terms of search engine listings. I try to delete as many of them as and when they register, and the domain names they register from get added to the blocked domains list we maintain. Oh so it's not a real sinister conspiracy then Seriously, thanks for clearing that up, Steve. No longer will I have to try to work out if the names are anagrams.
