London Saint Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 They are a better side than a lot of the teams occupying the lower places in the Prem so i am fully expecting a home defeat! Anything else is a bonus
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Saints will win, (I hope) thats good enough for me...really looking forward to the game though, if its anything like the last few games we should be entertained if nothing else..
Faz Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Significantly, West Ham have a very good away record. Three wins and two draws (compared to our two wins) emphasise that this is going to be a tight match. Incidentally most of the seven clubs who have a better away record than us have yet to play us at home. Make of that what you will. Without our 100% home record we clearly would not be heading the league. 3-3 draw. Without their strong Away record, West Ham would be nowhere near us. I agree, a Draw is the most likely outcome!
Pilchards Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Think we can rule Lallana out as he was watching the training on crutches, unless he has a pain killer I can't see him being ready Tuesday.
Jez Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Think we can rule Lallana out as he was watching the training on crutches, unless he has a pain killer I can't see him being ready Tuesday. That is not good news, for Tuesday or beyond.
Crazy Diamond Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I'm going for a 2 - 0 loss unfortunately. Hammers are hitting form, we're minus our best player. Doesn't look good.
doddisalegend Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I like this one from the WHU forum They do knock it about nicely, but I don't know how their defence will cope with our hoofball approach should Slender Sam decide to deploy those tactcs. 4-5-1 will find them out, I think. They do know we've spent 2 seasons in league 1 facing these tactics almost every home game don't they?
Thedelldays Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I like this one from the WHU forum They do knock it about nicely, but I don't know how their defence will cope with our hoofball approach should Slender Sam decide to deploy those tactcs. 4-5-1 will find them out, I think. They do know we've spent 2 seasons in league 1 facing these tactics almost every home game don't they? there is one thing defending against degenham and redbridge, notts county and colchester, to west ham with carew, baldock and nolan
doddisalegend Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 there is one thing defending against degenham and redbridge, notts county and colchester, to west ham with carew, baldock and nolan Very true (well except for Baldock we've played him before and he wasn't all that) but our boys have got used to teams parking the bus and hitting it long I can't see us being "found out" by such tactics. I think we are prehaps showing more fear of WH than we need to.
West End Saint Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 After the long lay off for the international break & not being able to get to Derby I am so looking forward to this game much as I really enjoyed league 1 this fixture is what it is all about I will be disappointed if it is not a sell out. The Hammers have been doing very well away we have the best home form most of us have ever seen 1st v 2nd to ex Prem teams battling it out in front of what should be a full house no doubt it will be a close game & it should also be a quality game. I hope Lallana is fit it might take a bit of his magic to win this 1 fingers crossed we get all 3 points I am going for a hard fought 2 1 COYS
Seany S Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Just been down to the ground to grab some tickets. Managed to get three in Block 14, the lad who served me said that there were less than 1000 tickets remaining. Is going to be a cracking atmosphere under the lights - can't wait!!!
Sour Mash Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Very true (well except for Baldock we've played him before and he wasn't all that) but our boys have got used to teams parking the bus and hitting it long I can't see us being "found out" by such tactics. I think we are prehaps showing more fear of WH than we need to. Plenty Of Allardyce's teams have turned over teams that can play much better football than we can, how many times did Arsenal struggle over the years for example? West Ham are in form and have proven quality throughout the side. Lallana out is a massive blow and I am worried about how good our defence is against real quality, especially if Richardson hasn't recovered after Derby.
iansums Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I'm starting to get nervous already for this one. Just been texting my West Ham supporting nephew who says he'd be happy with a draw, as would I TBH.
Wes Tender Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 This from them:- And Collison believes that the pressures of their Premier League days will stand the players in good stead against a relatively inexperienced Saints side. ”I think if you look right through our squad, there is a lot of experience there, as well as nice mixture of youth,” he said. I don't really think that this charge can be levelled at us at all. Most of our squad have a similar level as experiene to theirs. If he's talking about Premiership experience, he might have a point, but if he meant experience generally, then that is arguable.
saintrich Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 When they say less than 1000 remaining, does that mean less than 1000 out of 32,000, or less than 1000 of the blocks that we usually have open (with blocks 1-3 etc still shut?)

Having Premier League experience matters not if you're playing a league below it. All that shows is that you're capable in the league above, and remember - they got relegated.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Looks pretty likely that Lallana will be out then. Providing Richardson is fit, I'd like to see something like this: De Ridder in for Connolly, just to add some pace, and the 3 central midfielders to counter their 5 in the middle. Though admittedly this formation may lack the width we may need.
fromdayone Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 It's my wife's birthday on Tuesday so I won't be going - my ST will be burning a hole in my pocket at a restaurant. We can definitely win this and I think there will be a few goals so I'll go for 3-2 to Saints. Dear God man! If you had any sort of marriage your wife would understand you NEED to be at this match. Take the day off and have a meal at lunchtime instead (KFC bargain bucket etc). I have changed the dates of a family holiday in April so me and my boys wont miss the Portsmouth game! Pm me her number, i'll have a word.
saints-cris Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Looks pretty likely that Lallana will be out then. Providing Richardson is fit, I'd like to see something like this: That's what I would go with too.
suewhistle Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 From t'other thread "Block 2 is definitely open... I just bought two tickets in it " - so looking good. The exiles Nun's, lucky smokes, Old Speckled Hens etc. are all ready to lend positive vibes from afar.

Personally I'd go for 4-4-2 with Cork and Hammond in the middle and Holmes (If fit) + De Ridder on the wings. Without Holmes maybe Steve left wing and I guess Guly on the right.
doddisalegend Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Thinking a about it did Wally Downes go on to coach at WHU?
Saint Garrett Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Thinking a about it did Wally Downes go on to coach at WHU? Yes, and I think he is still there
Lord Duckhunter Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Our winning home run will have to come to an end soon. I would take a point tomorrow, provided we win on Sat.
RedArmy Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Without our 100% home record we clearly would not be heading the league. .Really? You mean without winning games of football, we would not be top of the league? Ground-breaking stuff.
Fowllyd Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 When they say less than 1000 remaining, does that mean less than 1000 out of 32,000, or less than 1000 of the blocks that we usually have open (with blocks 1-3 etc still shut?) Given that I've bought a ticket in block 3 this morning, I reckon it's the former. I had to use a mate's customer number to get said ticket, as they're only on restricted general sale. Sell-out or near as dammit.
captainchris Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Or if Adam isn't fit, we could put SDR in and drop Chaplow back to the bench. Harsh I know, and I do really like Chaplow but Steve's pace might be more effective for this one. An awful lot of hype about SDR on here.........Watford game he was totally invisible - have seen little yet to justify a start.
Saint Garrett Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 SDR was fantastic when he came on on Saturday to be fair.
fanimal Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Will be Harding and Fox left hand side, Holmes on the bench imo.

Will be interesting to see how their defence stands up against our ability to score goals in abundance.
Toomer Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I am glad I will be at SMS tomorrow, better than where I was four years ago tomorrow as I had a life saving op 18th Oct 2007.

So without our 100% home record we would not be heading the league, I suppose the same could be said about west ham, without their good away record they would not be second.

K,Billy's supersound Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 my choice would be if wetsham did come with 5 in midfield play the following team Davis Butterfeild Fonte Jos Fox (if frazer is out) Guly Chaplow Hammond Cork Holmes Lambert subs bart harding martin connolly de ridder but if they did play 442 again i would match them like for like pushing guly up with lambert and chaplow to the right. feel its gonna be a tight 1-0 either way. coyrs
Professor Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 They are a better side than a lot of the teams occupying the lower places in the Prem so i am fully expecting a home defeat! Anything else is a bonus If that is true, it applies to Saints as well, although when clubs go up the tendency is to strengthen with a few foreign internationals. Even with Lallana out, Saints are a match for WHU. We have a better midfield, the back 4 are looking good and I we have genuine quality in Lambert and Connolly. A great game to win.

Thedelldays Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 what time does the booking line close...thinking about a midweek jaunt from the south west..
1976_Child Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 All I can say is that I hope those in the Northam sit down. It is against ground regulations to stand.

Saint_clark Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 I really don't think De Ridder will be a starter at any time soon. He started V Watford.

SuperMikey Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 idiot My bad, I copied the first line-up and forgot to take Connolly out.

SNSUN Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Got back from a lovely break in Cyprus late last night and realised I'd yet to get my ticket for this game. Luckily I'm travelling alone so it's easier to buy one ticket - I'm now the proud holder of a seat in the Chapel/Kingsland corner - I'd have sat anywhere to get to this game. That said I do think it'll be the end of our impressive streak at home, but I hope we make a fight of it!. 3-1 WHAM. Met two Saints fans in Paphos, we ended up watching the Derby game and had the whole bar to ourselves, a great time.
saint lard Posted 17 October, 2011 Posted 17 October, 2011 Got my ticket this morning for the Itchen, block 10,really looking forward to this one. This will be a real test, but i am quietly confident we can get a positive result. Would be a big boost to beat one of the fancied sides for promotion, and go 5 points clear at the top, possibly.
