We passed them to death and the Derby fans we chatted to in the Harvester after the game knew they were very lucky. My MOTM would be Lambert. Onwards and upwards. Bearsy Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 I was sat with the home fans for this one on account of the os "sold out/not sold out" debacle, and can exclusively confirm that many of the good citizens of Derby suffer from really bad body odour. Fat git next to me even decided to change his shirt at one point, thus wafting a cloud of green and noxious sweat which I can still me even now. Where the **** is Lallana? I wondered aloud, forgetting myself for a moment when they read out the teams. No-one answered as no-one but me cared. Thought it was going to be a long 90 minutes when we kicked off with some keystone cops defending and gifted them an early lead, but that was pretty much all we saw of Derby for the next 60 minutes. Just as well as I hate that bit when you're in the wrong end and have to stand up and pretend celebrate a crap goal scored in the wrong ****ing net. After they scored we were brilliant. Proper gung-ho though leaving our centre backs two-on-two with their strikers most the time, and we had a few almost hairy moments contesting the humps forward that resulted from Derby not being able to put three passes together in a row. With all four midfielders wanting to play centrally and both full backs getting forward we are wide open at the back, fortunately both Derby's strikers are garbage, as is their entire team except for that little turd Ward on the left wing who to be fair looks useful. Great and well deserved goal from Ricky following a typically brilliant passing move, it took real self control not to celebrate that one. I punched the air a bit, but tried to make it look angry rather than celebratory. Few comments from the Derby smelly's sat near me, who were proper grumbling about their own team at this point: "Look a good side these, typical Championship team though; good going forward, can't defend" "That number 10 (Guly) is everywhere!" "That number 7 (Lambert) is winning everything!" "Look how many they've got forward: four, five, six... erm... seven" "How come they've got options all the time, it's like they've got an extra man!" Good times.... YEEEELLLOWS, YEEELLOWS

Saint_Jonny Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 After the first 3 mins I was thinking it was their turn to win 4-0 But after that up until about 75 mins we were unstoppable, should have made the most of it and should have won the game, they made derby look so poor. Adkins fiddled with it, bought hammond on and took chappers off, after that we werent the same. Cork in the middle was unbelievable, so obviously Adkins moved him to right back...?? Not moaning though, it was a good point even though we were worth all 3 today. Cork my MOTM, Lambert close behind, Connolly did a much better job of holding the ball up today, the ball was sticking to him a lot more. Why oh why did I get stuck in with the one strip of homosexual Saints fans that wanted to sit down? ****ing typical. At least 80% odd were stood, and I end up there. Saint Since '51 Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Game was closer than posts above suggest. We started very shakily and for a while they were quicker and stronger to the ball. It was only in the last 15 minutes of the first half that we started to really get on top. We were much the better side in the second half - Ricky had two or three chances to win it - but it could have gone either way. Someone cleared off our line with about 15 minutes to go and every time they had a corner we looked very shaky. Our goal was fantastic; lovely quick-passing move and very accomplished finish. Couldn't tell you about their goal; someone in front of me seemed to think that paying for his ticket to see the game gives him the right to stand up all match and stop me seeing it. Your lad must have had a great day - did he manage to have a kick around with some of the players? While we bossed the game, was slightly disappointed that we didn't turn the screw at 1-1, especially given how strongly we've been finishing games (and usually from a situation of playing poorly). But the onslaught never quite came and the last 20 mins were pretty scrappy. Of course, the tempo was killed by a stream of stoppages and injuries. Not sure if all the subs worked today - if FR went for an injury, that's OK but Chaplow's sub was a rad odd. IMO he was up there with Lambert for MOTM. gjphilsaint Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Generally agree with range of posters. I also sat with Derby fans who after they scored watched us take full control of the game - they could not get a touch. When they did get possession we robbed them often in the first half. Guly and Cork ran the show in first half although Guly was a bit elaborate. if we had been a bit more incisive we would have gone in ahead at half time. listening to Ram fans at half time... many were fearing the worst and thought it was only a matter of time before we scored. My derby friend and ticket provider was fairly representative of those whose were impressed by our composure. if Ricky had put away a second in a carbon copy to his first I think we would have gone on to score a few more. As it was the subs for saints took the sting out of our game. I thought Chaplow played well in the first half and did a job of spoiling anything derby tried to create. De Ridder did not prove a worthy substitute for Guly and Hammond added nothing either. harding arrived to late in the game to make any impact. Lambert won more than his fair share of high balls and Connolly did a fine job of holding things up for us.. Fonte and the dutchman, once they settled looked assured but in the first 5 minutes looked very shaky. Their goal was a poachers follow up goal. Radio derby report that the Ref would have awarded them a penalty if they had not scored for a foul on davis. In the later stages the game was more open and both teams missed guilt chances and open goals.... if I am not mistaken...one clear saints chance was blocked by one of our own players. i will look closely on FL Show on BBC tonight. overall a very good performance..... pleased with the point, had the scent of 3pts for long parts of the game despite being behind for so long. Always thought we would score. No sign or scent of any smelly rams in my seating block!

dannysfc Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Got back about 5-10 mins ago as I went by Coach to/from Eastleigh near to where I live! Got to the ground in plenty of time in the end and managed to grab something to eat/drink/programme before making my way to my seat where I Stood up for the whole game as I love standing up especially at Away Games and near the back as well! First 5-10 mins we never really got going and were 1-0 down after 5 mins which looked a tad offside and I thought we could get ripped apart here-but we managed to dust ourselves down and got back into the game and the referee was Awful as well Tbh! 2nd half was much Better and was a Great goal by Rickie Lambert for 1-1 and after that it could have gone either way come FT! Shame about Lalanna-(?!) and that we did miss him-but would be Good to have him back for the West Ham game on Tuesday as we could do with him tbh! Thought Chaplow did well in the 1st half for my MOTM n Rickie Lambert for the 2nd half for MOTM n ended up giving him the vote on the Coach! Was a Great day out especially with the nice weather n roll on West Ham n Reading next! COYR !!!
Lighthouse Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 I thought we played the better stuff for most of the game, but were pretty even when it came to creating chances. We played some excellent build stuff, but seemed to lack that killer ball most of the time. Lambert and Hoover were both excellent, winning everything in the air. Most of Derby's chances came from lobbing it over the back and hoping to get a corner. After the goal, they really didn't get up to much. Their corner delivery was decent, and there was one heart stopping game of pinball in our box second half, with some desperate lunges keeping them out. Other than that... hmmm. Saints best chances mostly involved Lambert. One which was very similar to his goal, but he couldn't keep his balance. Another in injury time, when a defender was all over him in the box, then fell over and somehow they got the free kick whilst Rickie got booked for kicking the ball away when he shot. There was also a decent cross from The Riddle, which Rickie headed back accross from the far post, right under the feet of Harding and Hammond (I think). If only one of them had delayed their run a couple of seconds, an easy tap in. Overall, it was a decent game, a good result and good enough performance, considering 2 of our best players are injured. Player Ratings: Davis - 7 - Good save right before their goal, nothing he could do about the rebound (Robinson shouldn't have got their first). Richardson - 7 - A decent enough performance, didn't see him get injured, but guessing that's the case. Fonte - 6 Didn't really look composed, but had to deal with a fair few long balls. Hooiveld - 8 - Dominant in the air and reliable on the ground. I'd take him off Celtic permanently if he can keep this up. Fox - 7 - Supported pretty well down the left and defended pretty well Guly - 6 - One of him better away games, but I'm still not convinced. Morgan - 6 - Gave the ball away carelessly a few times, not his best game. Cork - 8 - The midfield lost it's edge when he got moved out to RB. Chaplow - 7 - Had a fairly good game. If it was a tactical sub, I'd have brought Guly off for SDR instead. Connolly - 6 - "Best striker outside the Prem when fit"... er no. Didn't give the ball away as carelessly as he has previously, but didn't look very effective. Lambert - 9 - MOTM. Immense. Great build up play and a very good finish for the goal. Subs: De Ridder - 7 - Very good on the ball. Only one decent delivery of note. I'd like to see him skin a player more and go down the wing, instead of cutting inside. Hammond - 6 - We were less effective with him in midfield.

saintchris23 Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Away from home we were pressed and harried by derby throughout the game and I thought we had a lack of movement at times, guly trying to be far to elaborate and holding the ball up for far too long at times. I also thought our fans were awful today. We had plenty of opportunity to share banter and sing songs but it seemed like only a handful could be bothered. And for the people that want to sit down, while I appreciate your opinion, I want to stand up, so please respect mine. I also thought the stewards were fantastic today, I'm a derby hater after the play off debacle and the taunting that ensued after, but the stewards were a friendly bunch who allowed us to enjoy the game and provided some good banter. Listening to cough on the radio after, he was in awe of saints and really impressed me with his positive attitude especially towards us. In summary, I thought a draw was fair after witnessing an open and entertaining game. My only real negative was the referee who seemed intent on giving us nothing, them everything and doubling our yellow card count for the season in one game! The Cat Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Should have won that, they were pretty poor and despite not being in full flow we created a fair few chances. Lambert was excellent, Connolly seemed to be out wide a lot and never in the box at the same time as the ball. Chaplow, well I would have preferred De Ridder as we lacked any creative outlet on the left. Defended well apart from the goal. We do arse up at the back fairly frequently and will have to be bang on it against West Ham to avoid anything similar happening. Atmosphere was a bit lame for a full ground. Derby very quiet, we take over 2500 and all stand up but hardly make any noise.

Sour Mash Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Zzzzzzzzz............ What is the point of this thread? Can't we just copy and paste from the Leicester/Burnley/Cardiff games? S**t early defending followed by controlling the game? Most won't get my point, but I'm genuinely p**sed off after this run of away games. I haven't seen one oppossition side that I think are anything special. Derby were sh**te, there for the taking, its genuinely frustrating how close we really could be to running away with this league. S**t team selection from Adkins - if you were a Derby defender and saw that Lallana was missing, you'd be rubbing your hands at seeing Chaplow being the replacement, no matter how wll he's played as a sub this year. Surely it had to be De Ridder in for Lallana? Threaten their defence from the start? Also, unless (very possibly) I've missed something, why no Hammond? Thought Guly was excellent again as was Lambert, Cork is Prem class. Still think Connolly is off the ball in my book and Fox needs to get to the bye line more often. Queit, uninterested support from us, as always when everyone starts jumping on the bandwagon.

Ian the Red Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Right just got back from the game, marvellous perfomance but have to say 2 points dropped. We dominated for large sections of the game. We were celebrating my mates son's 21st so went in a box, great fun but we got the Derby side: they all thought they were lucky to get a point and we should have won and we were the best team they had played. Nearl;y got thrown out at the end apparently we made too much noise! My worry, we do not have another goal scorer. Connolly is not doing the business and hasnt been for sometime. He gives the ball away more than Guly and is not scoring. If Ricky gets injured we are in trouble. Defensively, well very poor goal, Fonte mistake to start with, he should have hammered the ball into touch and then KD: two hands to the ball and pushed it back into the box instead of away from the goal. From then on all Saints until the last 15 minutes when Derby came back into it. On the positive side we still created even without AL. Draw and still top by 2 points!! Win Tuesday and still top! Ian the Red Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 (edited) Zzzzzzzzz............ Agree, but Guly should have scored in the 1st half, beauitful lay off from Ricky but Guly volleyed high and wide when he had time. Guly also should have scored, shot too close to the keeper and he made the save. Edited 15 October, 2011 by Ian the Red
Sour Mash Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Because it's against ground regulations maybe...? I personally would rather stand but it is amazing how selfish some people can be. We have some fans who struggle physically to stand all game and considering stadiums are 'all seater' these days it's hard to argue they are in the wrong for believing they have a right to watch the game whilst seated. The atmosphere may be inferior as a result, but the regulations are what they are... Yes and that is what is hopefully catered for by adequate disabled provision at most grounds. It is clear that the vast majority want to stnad at away games, so who is being selfish at enforcign their will on others? Its been the way for many years, same applies for every other decently supported club.
Wilko Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Chaplow was my MOTM. Aside from one fluffed attempted trap, he was great. Lambert also put in a top shift. Fonte did a fine job on Robinson, who was a big presence up front for them all game. Saints were better in the first half, but the second hald was nicely balanced. We played well, but I reckon a draw was a fair result.
Dr Who? Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 Agree with the De Ridder part, just think we got this one a bit wrong, thinking we needed to toughen the midfield up! turns out that the game was there for the taking and perhaps we should have changed it earlier. Still to still be top, I am happy with how we are playing and the results and points we have in the bag.....we are not going to win them all! Just one of those days for him in front of goal, but he played well as always.

Just one of those days for him in front of goal, but he played well as always. But not only did he miss, he also over elaborated on too many occasions and either lost the chance to attack quickly or gave the ball away. Yes, Guly can be good but he is also very annoying. Away from home we need reliability, Guly is not doing it enough for me. But Connolly needs to be dropped first.
saintrich Posted 15 October, 2011 Share Posted 15 October, 2011 We played well but sometimes guilty of over-working the ball and being too afraid to shoot. I think a draw was fair - as although we had alot more of the ball, chances wise was pretty even - Derby had a couple cleared off the line.
