Derby 1 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

60% possession

9 shots on to their 7

6 off to their 4

Suggests we controlled much of the game so it could be seen as two points dropped BUT Derby have had nearly as good a start as us. Were 3rd on merit and will be disappointed they did not take all three 3 points as well.

Overall, a good result for us which maintains our position at the top.

Tuesday will be a good test.

Those stats are a fair reflection from what I saw. From 20mins onwards we dominated the ball and used is so well. Lambert was a constant thorn in their side and looks so at ease in the championship which is great to see.

Also thought Fonte was an absolute beast today, he won most in the air when they punted it long.

Erm, no, you cant.

I didnt read anywhere in the T & Cs of this site, specifically post-match reactions, that only positive comments were permitted.

I feel 2 points were dropped. Deal with it.

As you thought we wern't going to get anything out of this as we can't perform against top sides (your opinion) In what circumstances is that 2 points dropped then?

and so it proved. We apparently "dominated" the game and because of starting off half-comatose, we dropped 2 points. I dont call that a result considering our perceived level of dominance. Its not like we mugged them of a point, is it ?

There's no apparently about it, I find it really irritating how you seem to belittling peoples opinions which were gleaned from WATCHING the game.

Why one earth didn't you?

and I also find it quite crazy that people expect us to be beating teams in the top 10, even though we've just been promoted.

We weren't going to win every flaming week. There is nothing to moan about in terms of being a Saints fan at the mo, it's just fantastic to watch and to still see us top of the league. That's not the be all and end all for me, a top 6 finish would be a fantastic return to the championship.

Let's not all get ahead of over selves.

2 points dropped (if we really were so great...)

Alpine are really for real, if we go on to win our home games and draw our away games we should win this league, I like many would have taken that result at kick off, you have got to be one of the most moronic posters on TSW.

Derby had a full house expecting to do better. This will feel like a defeat to them.

We are showing ourselves to be as good as any team in this league and better than most. If the team can keep believing we will be there or thereabouts at the end.

I don't get this. We've only played two of the top 6, beating 1 (Leeds) and drawing today.

I was a bit worried about Fonte actually, he just cannot keep his arms to himself, one day he's going to give away a penalty when we just don't need it.Liked Jos though, thought his game was more sophisticated than Fonte's.

BBC report

An inspired performance from Derby goalkeeper Frank Fielding earned his side a point against npower Championship leaders Southampton.

He made a string of saves before being beaten by Rickie Lambert - who fired in low from the edge of the box.

Lambert's 11th goal of the season cancelled out Theo Robinson's opener, which came after just three minutes.

The former Millwall striker reacted quickest after Kelvin Davies could only parry a shot from Ben Davies.

Derby, who were beaten 4-0 at Leicester in their last outing, started brightly but their early goal sprung the visitors into life.

Guly do Prado fired narrowly over before forcing Fielding into his first real save.

Jose Fonte did beat the goalkeeper just before the break but Steve Davies was on hand to head over his own crossbar.

In the second half, Fielding saved well from an 18-yard strike from Lambert before the former Bristol Rovers striker did find the target.

Alpine, the point is that people watching it were very happy with what they were seeing. You (who, I understand, were not watching it) came out with the manic depressive, overstated gloom and doom that p*sses so many people off.

We have a top-notch side with an excellent chance of automatic promotion in a very competitive division. Enjoy this great period while it lasts, FFS, or else there's not much point following the team at all, is there?

I have concerns, too - mainly the danger that we're a little too Arsenal-esque, and that we don't score as often as we must. But the vast majority of the story is positive - and was again today. I have faith that Adkins will address any issues.

I would define a good draw whilst missing our most influential player at a key rivals full stadium a RESULT And your definition of a result is?

I rarely post, although I visit the site regularly for any snippets of news etc. This Alpine guy, from what I can tell is the definition of a troll. Unfortunately as I guess I am doing by mentioning it the only way to deal with a troll is to totally ignore it. I have a feeling that even insulting it gives it the attention it craves.

juat in case anyone is any doubt about this being a good days work, especially as we did play some excellent football...

remember when Reading won the CCC with over 100 points......................they celebrated a 0-0 at our place like they had won the cup.......... and it turned out they were right to !!

you really dont have to win away games at top 6 teams to get promoted..though it does help, obviously !

No need to feel ashamed. Alpine is an extremely competent troll. He is probably beating himself off right now while reading these posts. He is spoiling this forum with his retarded rhetoric while staying well clear of a ban for the usual rules.

Everyone is good at something. Trolling is what he does best.

Watched the match on the live stream. My thoughts:

We played like we are the team at the top of the league.

We dominated long spells but some fierce defending and a bit of bad luck stopped us from winning.

Derby are a well organised team but we more than outplayed them.

Its so good to see the spirit of our players, they are very driven

I am not naive enough to believe that we must win every game to prove how good we are and I believe that the depth of our squad

combined with our playing style will give us an extremely good chance of automatic promotion.

This, for me, was quite telling, given the Saints-coloured spectacles I see everything through and the fact that Dave Merrington is a key information source ;): It's not often you hear a TV commentator that enthused about a team they're commentating on, especially in a top of the table clash.

It does seem a shame that the troll is allowed to post on this, generally very good forum. I have this mental picture of an over weight, spotty, pale individual. The type that would have a clammy, limp hand shake who is unable to make eye contact with any one he meets incase they can tell from his shifty eyes what he has just been doing for the 10th time that morning.

My 17 year old (who went to the game on the travel club and looks about 14) has just phoned to say that he got seperated from the crowd and on his way back to the coach a few Derby fans started kicking off and he got cracked by a 30 plus something "man". Always hated Derby and now just that little bit more...

Predicted and happy with a draw before the game, then heard Lallana was out, so definitely happy with a draw, then saw we were one down almost from kick off so really happy with a draw.

Then saw how much possession we had and heard some feedback from friends who were there ans was a tad disappointed with a point!!!!!!!

Have to be happy at still being top, taking a point at promotion rivals and then apparently playing so well.

I am as happy as any result we have this season tbh. Fab result without lallana. We dominated and played fab footy until we scored then we were hanging on a bit. But what it does tell us is away from home under pressure we can defend well. Fonte and jos very good imo.

Marks

Davis 7

Frazier 7-whyd he go off?

Fonte 7

Jos 7

Fox 5-Poor second half poor crossing.

Morgan 7

Cork 7

Guly 7

Chaplow 5

Connolly 7

Lambert 8-Goal was fab abd he looks class.

Hammond 5-Poor when he came on imo.

De ridder 4-Lost ball every time and final ball shocking.

Who really thought we would be top mid October, we're going to have setbacks, drop down a bit during the season but today was a very good result. Bet the likes of Forest, Brum, Poopey etc thought they would be well above us.

Absolutely, it's a start beyond anyone's widest dreams. Which is why Apline's comments are creating such a reaction, which TBF is probably what he wants as he's just a troll.

Yes, in an excellent team performance (everyone contributing) I was a bit disappointed with Fox. He needs to be told to play to the whistle and ditch the habit of stopping while he appeals for something or other. He did that twice today and it could have been very costly both times.
