EBS1980 Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/9306960.Barnard_out___after_being_back_in/ Wonder if it's worth getting a loan forward in so we have 3 good forwards again enabling us to have an option off the bench. beavis17 Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Obviously he's not a striker but I was surprised to see that Matt Phillips has joined Sheffield United on loan from Blackpool...
SuperMikey Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 I think it's more to do with his court case than an actual injury, but a loan striker is probably a good idea anyway.
Alanh Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Unlikely I think. Lambert, Guly, Connoly, Forte and De Ridder can all play up front and can give us enough cover in his continued absence. If we are still top 6 in January I can see up bringing in a new striker to push for promotion.

Good player, better than League 1. He should have come to us when he had the chance!
doddisalegend Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 We've managed ok so far. Part of me (the one that thinks JFK was killed by the CIA and the moon landings were faked) thinks this has more to do with the court case than his injury. sambosa75 Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 I think it's pretty obvious now the club won't let him anywhere near the first team whilst his court case is pending. They've done well for it to go this long before anyone notices to be honest...

Saint Garrett Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 What about this Seidi bloke in the youth setup?? I've never seen him play but he's rated higher than Forte on Fifa.....

Bad Wolf Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 We need a striker for cover. The ideal option is to bring in a free agent on a short term deal. Would have to be someone who knows the club, has a goal scoring record in this league and can hold the ball up (for when Rickie's injured). Matthew Le God Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Why the need for a loan? Saints have scored 25 goals in 10 games without him in the matchday sixteen and Adkins says he'll be back soon in any case.
david in sweden Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Guly and Connolly can fight it out for a start IMO. No problem ..we can one in each half ! let 'em score and still keep fresh.
david in sweden Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 But he was in the match squad before injury? If it was a lie, wouldn't they have just said he's still not over injury? Rather than saying he is, putting him in the squad, then removing him again? It may well be that the injury was not-so-straightforward as seemed at first. I really don't think the court case issue comes into the reckoning. If he had been fit, he'd have been on the bench at least. Six months after the injury... he's still not 100% ..sad memories of Pahars. Soon people will start comparing him with David Connolly's long-term injury history. We've got Rickie Lambert and ..TWO half-fit inside men. I don't see Guly and Lambert as a regular twin-striker role as no-one plays that style anymore. You need a big man, and a shorter, quick man inside to play-off him. De Ridder, Holmes and Forte are all good runners and can cross a ball, but they are hardly 20 goal a season types- are they ? Monk Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Still need another striker in on loan or maybe bring Hoskins, Sinclair or Seidi through? Yes we've done well as it is, still should always improve the sqaud when available.

Yes we've done well as it is, still should always improve the sqaud when available. Maybe we will - but as long as Guly and Connolly are fit, we haven't got space on the bench for one of them. don't actually think Barney is injured, more too it that meets the eyes sort of thing. Completely agree with this. Had my suspicions before but since he recovered from the 'injury' and has now had a relapse (after his court case was put back again) i'd be amazed if he is actually injured. Saintandy666 Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 Basically we need another striker as back up. We can't rely on Connolly's fitness(however brilliant he has been this season), or Barnard because of court case etc...

Before anyone says "not good enough", you will not get better than him as fourth choice striker behind Lambert, Connolly and Guly.

saintstr1 Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 I dont understand some of these panicky quotes , If we need a different striker option we could always play Lallana up front and bring Holmes in left midfield, In fact it would not surprise me to see Holmes involved at Derby being as though he has a point to prove up there. I think our present squad gives us plenty of Mix & Match options without the need for any panic loans , January is the time to boost the squad if we need to. Keep the faith & trust Nigel
1976_Child Posted 14 October, 2011 Share Posted 14 October, 2011 time for a loan? Just because Barney is injured. Why the fek should I lend you money just because he is injured? Feking lay-about.
