Been trying to update for the last 4 hours, like most people, but Apples servers are swamped... (and im not talking about the download, just try to install the ****er afterwards...)

I look forward to the Installation stalling then..... And being unable to disconnect the damn phone from the computer when I need some sleep ahead of work tomorrow...... Wonderful.

Ah got mine installed now:-)

They claim there are 200 new features but only found a couple that are actually worthwhile. The new newsstand function is annoying, it puts a new icon on ur phone that can't be deleted or put into a folder out the way.

Installed it on two phones with no issue. Probably your hardware :)

Yes that makes sense.............not

Most likely a corrupt backup

I've upgraded mine. Was relatively painless. I had to re-download my apps (tbh won't re-download them all) but otherwise, no problems whatsoever. Music and stuff was backed up onto the computer before the install, and put back onto the iPhone.

It seems to be quicker. Just general navigation and the like - but that's possibly because the phone has essentially been reformatted (remember how quick your computer used to be?). The new text notifications are pretty slick as well.

agree, the new notification thing is good...much like anything you could have had if it was jailbroken..........I have not used imessage yet..my iphone contract is up in the new year, have no idea if I will go for another i try an samsung galaxy s2.....a mate has it and that is a very good bit of kit

That's the thing though: the Notification Center (NC) ISN'T like anything you could have if Jailbroken - it's MUCH slicker. Entering apps direct from lockscreen or NC works well too. There's also a LOT of little tweaks in iOS5 that isn't written about: things like in Messages the keyboard used to hide the message thread, whereas now you can drag the messages down to hide the keyboard before you type. There's loads of these little things that just improve the iPhone experience even further. New apps are good too: Find Friends is ace for pre-arranged meet ups (or stalking!); Cards etc.

iCloud and backup while charging is also well underrated and people who don't normally backup regularly will never have to worry about losing anything again.

Photostream is also superb if you have other iOS/Lion devices.

How do you view the photostream from Lion os x?

Well I've found out how to access the camera in a hurry without having to faff around and put your password in.

Double click the Square button at bottom of screen and you get the camera icon bottom right so you can start clicking straoght away (and the volume up button is easy to use as the capture button).

Well it is very similar to the notification you could have had from jail breaking. As the person who did it was originally the person who made the first tweak on Cydia this is hardly surprising. Bitesms is still my messaging system of choice anyway as it has reply right in the app and you can send a text straight away from the volume up button.

Just waiting for the jailbreak and I will be chuffed.

apparently, you can.......from a site named after a blood coloured frosted fluffy rain

Yes but it's tethered. I'm waiting for the untethered jailbreak which should be along in a week or two.

In iPhoto with Photo Stream turned on from the Settings menu. Same with iPad. It takes about 5secs to sync and appear across all devices.

If you recently bought a new MacBook, then you'd be a fool to ditch the iPhone, as it's when you have multiple iOS/OS X devices that it becomes even more impressive. I've always used MobileMe anyway, but now iCloud is free so you'll get all of the functions and synchronicity such as: Instantly syncing contacts, calendars, bookmarks, docs etc and pushing them to all of your devices, Photo Stream etc. until you use it properly, you won't know what you're missing - but once you do, you'll wonder how you can live without it!

Bit rubbish that it is only the last thirty days though rather than say the last 200 photos.

Hmmmm, iCloud. Permission for a private company to handle my personal photographs and data. No chance.

Cloud computing is not something I want, considering the latest hacking of systems at Sony I wouldn't want any company of that type handling anything that is quite rightfully and unashamedly private.

Has there been any differences to battery life with the new iOS?

Tried to update yesterday, but when my phone restarted it said 'the sim inserted is not supported. Please insert original sim card.' (its definitley not the wrong sim card) This message was on itunes and on my phone (rendering un-usable). Took it into the apple store and they were stumped. After an hour and almost every 'genius' in the shop having a look, they still had no idea what the problem was, so they just gave me a new phone. Just went to do the update on my new handset...and its happened again. FML.

Got given yet another new handset this evening. Apparently it is a very rare problem and they have no way of fixing it atm so replacing the phone is all they can do. Also been advised not to update it until the problem is fixed.

Presumably you don't bank online and use snail mail rather than email then?
