The questions should be on British laws and day to day customs.

This. I thought the Halloween question was the closest to this, although Halloween isn't a UK holiday!

Yeah, right. We all believe you.

How far back does your family history go then Dune? Pre Norman invasion? Any Irish or Hugenot blood? No ancestor ever married 'out'? No great-uncle you've forgotten? Because if not, you are just about the only true Englishman here. Oh no, hang on, what about those pesky foreign Romans, Saxons and Vikings? Or are you pure Celt? All Angle?

It's a very rare person indeed who has no immigrant/foreign blood anywhere in the past few generations of their family .. the only real variation is how recent.

The Celts originate from Austria and the Angles from Germany/Denmark

I was going to say this! Of course if Dune wants to dig far enough back he'll probably find he's of African descent...

Actually, although it's mainly an American holiday now, it originally came from Scotland.

9 - joint lowest with Micky!

Thanks - nice to have some company, but so thick was I, that when I took the test again (same questions), I still managed to get 3 wrong...!!!

Its a **** test with no relevance to living in the UK.

Added to this is the fact that not all people seeking residency need to take it: if your English is not good enough then you can do a 9 week course (1.5 hours a week), which includes assessments (basic listening and speaking). At the end of the course you get an official government certificate to include in your ILR application.

Which means you can have **** English skills but still get residency.

A fairly average 15 for me without google. Stupid questions though, more questions about political culture, popular culture and convention would be more appropriate. These fiddly details arew things that no-one would expect the average person to know.
