Could Rickie play for England?

Yes

Well, let's face it, Nick Easter, Jonhy Wilkinson & the rest were pretty damned awful

Joking aside?

Still yes.

In a team playing the way we do and with Rooney suspended then yes, but playing the way Capello does....

Don't be silly

Am I the only person who thinks Kelvin Davis is in with the best chance of getting a call up?

You don't post on here very often do you? About as frequently as you get out per chance?

I think you're mistaking what I'm saying. My original arguement was if there were injuries to a couple of Goalkeepers, and you have Stockdale as the third choice keeper?

I don't think he's ever going to play in a game for England. And it was more if he had gone to West Ham as well. I don't think it is that much of a crazy suggestion. Yes probably too late now. But we seem to have a lack of reliable English Keepers. I think we've always been very lucky to have him in recent years, expecially when we dropped down to League One. Maybe I was a little eager in my original suggestion.

No - I think some people are getting lost in Saints-land where all our players are secretly much better than everyone else realises.

Put the tissues away, zip up your trousers and get back to work.

I watched the Scotland game the other night and CMS actually did look very good against the likes of Puyol, Pique etc. Of course it's hard to judge it completely on that game as it was effectively a training match for the Spanish having already qualified. But he certainly didn't look out of place at all.

However I can't see Rickie getting a call-up any time soon to be honest. I think he would fit in very well at international level, but the problem is that he has never played in the top flight and so is already at a disadvantage when compared with the "second-tier" strikers that England have got (like Welbeck, Zamora etc), let alone the likes of Rooney, Crouch, Bent etc.

Going back to KD though - all I can say is that if David Stockdale is good enough to be number 3 for England, then he can't be a million miles from getting an emergency call-up!

Why don't you stop pussy-footing around and tell us what you really think? ;)

Yes, I believe that Richard Lambert should play for the England team. I believe he would work his testicle off, would score 3 goals, (One from distance, one with his head and one from the free kick), and would be dropped for Crouch as it is embarrasing that he is able to show them up.

And stick Adam Lallana on the wing, and Kelv in goal.

And stick it up them.

Here is a question. In cup games against 'weaker' teams, most clubs field a second eleven, if you will. How about the next time we play, say, Tonga, or Belgium, or Micronesia, we have the england team consisting of Championship players? Good Idea, or shall I get my coat? :)

You're probably correct in that he is too good for league one, he's also relatively safe and reliable in this league - but international football - I think not. I'm actually a great fan of Kelvins - many would have gone and sat on West Hams bench (arguably for a lot more money than we were paying), but he chose to stay, gamble and play.

I hope he is royally rewarded for that commitment with games in the Premier League, but even then I think that if we got there - we might assess certain positions - one of which would be his. Love his loyalty and passion for the game and the club - but that 'aint gonna get him into the international setup.

And what about Lallana??

If a thread was to be started on this topic the it should have started on AL by far and away our most talented player and could easily play at international level...

Posted

Will he ever get a fair chance to impress? Very unlikely.

Could he do a job in an improbable striking crisis? Most definately.

Many point to his lack of pace. It's true that he isn't conventionally quick, but he's no slouch either since Adkins et al got him into shape. Teddy Sheringham was never that quick either but he used his intelligence and physicality to good effect. Lambert is the same. Crouch can't do 100m in 10 seconds either.

He is sharp, he can play and he can score, that's the important bit.

Coming on here questioning what we think of SRL.

F*ck off.

He's on the banner.

Do Wigan even have a forum?

Put the beer down and read the post again. He says this should be a Golden Thread, Deppo.

First of all I am not Deppo. Before my time.

Secondly, what do I care what a wigan fan thinks about how we may have discussed RL in the past?

Entirely a hypothetical musing but watching Mackail-Smith do a decent enough job for the Scots tonight made me wonder whether Rickie could ever step up to international football level? Not by any stretch of the imagination saying he should be picked ahead of Rooney' date=' Bent, Sturridge, Defoe or whoever but just a simple thought: could he cut it for England if there was a striker shortage and he was picked? I definitely believe he'll outscore Mackail-Smith in the Championship this year but could he do a job for an international side as CMS is clearly doing?[/quote']

Wow, well that turned out to be more than just a hypothetical musing. Good job Rickie & I am clearly IKT.

Relax mate, it's just that with the benefit of hindsight a lot of the posts in this thread are pretty funny. Reading through with what you know now makes for a good for a light-hearted chuckle. That's all I was getting at.

Oldham fan btw. ;)

No worries, some new here are still a little sensitive and are a bit excitable from when 'he' scored earlier. Bit like ****ing over a picture of your ex on her wedding day.

We do have some very precious / sensitive posters it seems.

Shame

We also have some posters with no friends. And some who refuse to realise they are not wanted.

You have just signed Joseph Mills, according to SSN. He was once our great left back hope.

They also have Michelle Marsh as an Uber fan. Kind of evens things out;)

Here's a thought: Rickie gets picked and then someone whispers in his ear " play in the prem and we will invite you again", January comes and he's on his bike to Newcastle quick as you like.

Pretty close.

Ch***t! Are Dubai taxi drivers that well informed? I thought they only knew about golfers, or am I getting confused? Aldi Old Vine Garnacha to blame...

LOL, genius... ...and not far from the truth

Would be great to see him in an England shirt, but it will never happen. There are dozens of strikers that have a better chance of getting into the England team than him unfortunately.

Er....I take it back?

Fair play to those who called Rickie for England. To those who suggested Kelvin, hang your head in shame.

*Hangs head in shame*

Although I still maintain he was better than Stockdale at the time and we did have dreadful depth of English keepers

Did I actually say a Dubai taxi driver???????? Don't be silly, they are 99% South West Asians.

Now, what they COULD tell you is who will bowl a no-ball or a long hop at what point in an IPL or T20 match or when MLT will kick the ball out for a throw in...

(allegedly) 8)

Meanwhile on topic, glad to see I dodged a bullet by saying he could only play when England play football our way and not under Capello. Phew, got that one pretty close
