For those of you who are ineterested,

- Anders captained Sweden to a 3-2 win over the Netherlands tonight, meaning Sweden qualify for the Euros and hopefully he will be there.

- For anyone interested in coaching this website is quite good and a nice little interview with and about the man himself:

Lacked pace (to put it kindly), and often had glacially slow decision making: seeing him dwelling on the ball only to get dispossessed was so frustrating. When he had time or inspiration hit, was capable of excellent things, but just not consistently a Prem class player, in fact he just wasn't really suited to the fast-paced English game. There's a reason we paid $4million for the rather limited Delap basically to replace Anders, after all.

He shows up well in Swedish play, & even in internationals: he is given the time on the ball to decide what to do, and when he has time he can certainly pick out a good pass & deliver it.

In the Swedish teams these days he is often used as the defensive midfielder in the diamond shaped midfield - even if he´s 35 there is no better option - he is really dominating that role and once he retire from the national team he will be really missed. Anders is pure class and really showed again yesterday - SWEDEN IS GOING TO EURO 2012 Yihaaaaaaaaaaaaa : )

He came to Saints during a period when we quite often bought players without quite knowing what to do with them. Several of them were Swedish. Remember, for instance Mikael Nilsson, whose confidence we were all too ready to torpedo by not knowing what we wanted him to do, resulting in him being considered as useless by the fans. Both players have had a long and successful career both before and after they left us. Those indecisive and confusing days are happily behind us.

Who bought Anders???

He was bought during the period when we didn't have a manager ;)

And Delap was only bought a month after Anders, so I wouldn't say he was bought to replace Anders.

But well done to Anders, liked him both on and off the pitch, a very nice bloke.

Talented rather than brilliant. Wouldn't say we never got the best out of him, more that his infuriating inability (or unwillingness) to adapt to the pace of the English game meant that we never saw the best of him on a consistent basis.

Still some good memories of a good player in a good era...

I saw the game and noticed he was playing a defensive role in midfield, sensible really because his legs have gone.

Sadly we never saw the best of him for us.

Nilsson WAS fcking useless, an absolute sh1111!thouse of a player. I'm by no means a blood-and-thunder kind of guy, but I've never seen a player so gutlessly wince out of a 50/50 as he did at Carrow Road that season. He wasn't crap because we "didn't know what to do with him", he was crap wherever we played him (full back or wide midfield) because he couldn't give a toss and didn't put any effort in.

For all the slating of Davenport, Bernard and Jakobsson, it was Nilsson who was our worst player that season - in fact one of the most useless I've seen for any Saints side - made all the worse for his vaguely competent career either side of it.

Anders, in comparison, worked his guts out, could see a pass, had a great touch, was a decent dribbler, and had a pretty decent career at Saints, even if he did set a world record for being tackled from behind in one season.

But you must admit it somewhat peculiar that he had a long international and successful carer after he left us. If he was that utterly useless, how come there was nobody better in Sweden to do his job? How come he was an international before he arrived here, and again after he left. Somehow we must have had a role in it.

My point was to point out a peculiar time in this club's history, which I am grateful is now firmly in the past. My comparison was with how NA nurses the new players into their roles and their appreciation of the team around them. I didn't post to big up a player that I haven't got any particular interest in.
