holepuncture Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 Just ordered half a dozen tickets to Reading away and the lady making the booking threw in not only our celebrated 'Ticket Tax', but then raised the bar by suggesting I made a donation to the Saints Foundation! There I was, knees trembling, sweat on my brow... all I could think of was NC holding a puppy with a gun to its head... 'how can I say no?' I thought, 'it would be wrong not to support our magnificent foundation and our fantastic, hard working group of staff who are together as one'... I matched the booking fee with a £3 donation, and opted in for gift aid. I noted the crafty tatic with the lady and we had a chuckle about it. In the main I see this as a positive move by the club and another step towards that £1m target for the foundation and I wish them all the best, lots of companies such as Dominos and Amazon have similar systems in place so this is perhaps another example of Saints following best practise. If they asked me to donate to a 3rd party charity I would have most likely declined (recession n all!), however the relevance, association and localism of the foundation made it too diificult to swerve! Also noted was the excellent transaction, friendly manner and intelligent management of my confusing order - well done Saints!
Saint_clark Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 (edited) Some people will not get the irony of your first few paragraphs I fear. Saints Foundation is the main charity I donate to now. Edited 11 October, 2011 by Saint_clark

This Charming Man Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 I always refuse to donate. But that's mainly because I'm tight.

SuperMikey Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 Super Mikey will be well jealous when he reads this. I'm literally fuming right now. I think it's good that we're trying to get people to donate to the Saints Foundation, they do a lot of good work and they're not very highly publicised outside of Southampton. dronskisaint Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 ****ing cheek IMO. What with the 'big society' taking up all the slack it's amazing that charities still have a role eh? Other than providing services slashed by caring Cameron of course!
astrasri Posted 11 October, 2011 Share Posted 11 October, 2011 I bought 2 tickets for Palace today, I didn't pay the tax nor was I asked for a contribution to the Foundation. I feel so guilty now, especially as I legitimately claimed my over 60 (but under 65) concession for this game.
JustMike Posted 12 October, 2011 Share Posted 12 October, 2011 its hardly a tax when you have the option to say "no"
holepuncture Posted 12 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 12 October, 2011 Just say no kids! Don't see anything wrong with charities asking. They kind of have to. But don't be guilted into it. I give enough to not get guilted into it. There's little point, same on the high street really, even if you give to the first few charities you have to say no eventually. Not a criticism as I know the club is a profit seeking business, but the booking fee going to the saints foundation would make it far more appealing. Doubt anyone would mind it then. Or pay more on the day and the difference goes to the foundation. I find on the high street a tactic of an loud aggressive one off cough if they start to make any movements towards you, or if they are looking at you and might attempt to initiate.... its hardly a tax when you have the option to say "no" spoil sport... and to think i paid your flag tax
