Window Cleaner Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Apparently Barnard might be back for this one? He will be raring to go - I'd bring him on after 70 mins once we are 3/4 up. Absolutely no chance, won't even be on the bench unless we have injuries.
sfc4prem Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I'd definitely keep SDR on the right, think he deserves a run of games, and is more likely to track back than Guly. That leaves the dilemma of whether to start Guly or DC up top. If he's playing 4-4-2 that is... Disagree. Guly is always tracking back and making challenges/putting pressure on the opposition..
Avenue Saint Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox Guly Cork Chaplow Lallana Connolly Lambert Would start with chappers for this one!
ohwhenthesaints Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox De Ridder Hammond Cork Lallana Guly Lambert Subs: Bart, Martin, Chaplow, Schneiderlin, Connolly Unfortunate for Holmes not to make it into the squad but the 5 subs rule is a real ball buster.
Jack Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Disagree. Guly is always tracking back and making challenges/putting pressure on the opposition.. Against forest he was all over the place when we lost possession, and we kept getting exposed at the back on both sides. Not so bad against brum or watford but we were never under as much pressure as we will be in tougher games. I rate him when we're in possession but he never busts his balls to help Richardson out when we lose it. Obviously we haven't seen much of De Ridder but he seems like one of those players who will get up and down that wing all day long. I think Guly is a bit more of a luxury player for games when we'll have loads of space and possession, and De Ridder for when we need to graft. Derby away is definitely the latter. IMO of course

When we have a fully fit squad, Adkins is going to ahve a real headache as to who to include and who won't even make the squad.
captainchris Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I'd definitely keep SDR on the right, think he deserves a run of games, and is more likely to track back than Guly. That leaves the dilemma of whether to start Guly or DC up top. If he's playing 4-4-2 that is... Going on the Watford game he offered very little. He was always looking for the hole in the needle pass/through ball which is rarely on. His involvement with general play and build up was for me not up to speed with the rest of the team - not really affecting the game enough. My choice would be Holmes even on the right and cutting such is our method this year. De ridder isn't ready yet for me - at least not to start.....
Badger Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Interesting to see Nigel Cough's name linked with Forest. Perhaps this will add a bit of uncertainty and disruption to them...
Badger Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 Disagree. Guly is always tracking back and making challenges/putting pressure on the opposition.. At home perhaps, but concensus of opinion from many is that he is too anonymous away from home.
shurlock Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I agree with that line up, but would have Hammond in instead of Chaplow - apart from one poor half at Burnley, Hammond has been excellent this year and he and Cork have really made us tick from the middle. Chaplow has been working really well coming in with 30mins left and running his legs off, closing down the oppossition and bombing on past tired defences - don't think that needs changing at the moment. Agree with this - same team v. Watford. Hammond and Cork have a good understanding -and Chaplow has been great coming from the bench. Possibly Chaplow could start for De Ridder but it would be slightly negative and we've sometimes missed a bit of pace away from home where teams hold a higher line and there are opportunities in behind them.
Saint_Jonny Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I've got a Leicester like feeling about this game. Think we'll go behind and that'll wake us up. Looking forward to it! With it being a sell out I imagine parking etc will be a nightmare so I'll aim to get there a bit earlier than I would normally.
whelk Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 Can't believe we are such favourites with the bookies. Derby 11/5 - for 3rd placed side at home is very rare against a side that has got 1 pt out of 9 in last 3 away from home. Still think we will win though!
pap Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 It'll be the second game of the season for me. Never been to Pride Park before, although weirdly enough, worked about half a mile away from it and went past it every day. Train station is pretty handy for it, iirc. Couldn't pick a result. As others have pointed out - not so much wrong with our play - finishing has let us down. That said, I'd like to see an alert team before Derby get a goal.
dronskisaint Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 Wish I was going but flying to Canada...for my twopence worth we stay as against Watford. Not sure if Connolly is fit but that might be the only change. I think we lose something if Cork and Hammond are not playing together...it's tough on Chappers to do so well and tough on Morgan and SDR and Guly too but if we're serious about promotion this season we have to go beyond personal ambition - I'm hoping that the players have got this message, they seem to be singing the same song. Brilliant to have these choices though...how different to when we las played in this league!
AK Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 It seems its on Fox Soccer so should be a stream... Does this mean it will be shown live on telly in Spain ? If anyone knows of a bar showing it in Puerto Banus let me know !
K,Billy's supersound Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 i'd pick thought chaplow deserves a start and we played much better with hammond back in the team last time out. i think sdr is not as defensive as guly and would be better used as a sub with 25-30mins to go. Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox Guly Hammond Chaplow Lallana Connolly Lambert hope for a draw. would be very happy with a point derby are a hard team to beat.

IMO of course This is nonsense. I've been to most games this year, home and away, and one thing you can't fault Guly on is the effort he puts in to track back. I agree, in away games, as an attacking threat, he's been quiet, but he's certainly no luxury player. If you don't believe me, have a watch of NA's press conference after the Watford game on Saints Player. I'll paraphrase what he says: "Look at Guly, comes from a different culture of football, but he was tackling back, chasing the ball down late in the game. Steve de Ridder will learn that in time, too". All that said, I'd go for the same team selection as Watford.

Think you're both right - Guly does indeed bust a gut and is aware of his defensive duties but in doing so he can be quite undisciplined. He'll often get sucked into the middle or go out of position to chase down the ball, thereby exposing Richardson. Ironically, Guly is perhaps too eager.
AK Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 Fox soccer only showing full game on Sunday not live Ok thanks
Notty1981 Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 Guly, hit or miss EVERY GAME, no in between!!!!! I'd like to see him start at Derby though, up front instead of DC. I think this will be a game where we need presence up front rather than precise experience/ability!!!! Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox De Ridder Hammond Cork Lallana Guly Lambert With Chaplow making his usual SUPER SUB performance on 68minsish!!!!!! Is it the Brunswick, Alexandra, Harvester or somewhere else before the game???
Window Cleaner Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 ooooooooooh big news, the match is now live on L'Equipe TV, looks like they paid attention to the mail I sent them explaining that showing Pompey-Barnsley was akin to showing any regional league match and that Derby-Saints was the pick of the day's NPC games. How you could dip into the stream I couldn't say but you should be able to get the satellite feed most places in Northern Europe.
paris Posted 12 October, 2011 Posted 12 October, 2011 Your a star WC i think i might well have L'Equipe station ....

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 7000 fans in 2 away games. Incredible. I just hope that for both games the majority are stood up - especially when we're at Reading.
Appy Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 I just hope that for both games the majority are stood up - especially when we're at Reading. Same, hopefully for both. Derby should be a very good atmosphere, seems likely the whole ground will be sold out to see the visit of the league leaders.
Saint_Jonny Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 Our away support has been awesome (numbers wise) so far this season! Glad so many of you will be joining me at derby on Sat!
sfc4prem Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 That's exactly what our away support should be when we're top of the championship and have a fanbase like ours.

Brilliant support, hadn't expected us to take that many to somewhere as s**t as Derby. Shows what being top of the league does, buzzing for this now.

Sour Mash Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 But I thought we only took 1,000 fans north of London? That was always the case previously, massive jump in our numbers travelling away.
CFSFC Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 Got a positive feeling about it... When was the last time we failed to win in 4 away games? Goes back a while... For me and i said this v Burnley and Cardiff. Kelv Richardson Dutch Fonte Fox Chaplow Deano Cork Lallana Guly Lambert Holmes, martin, Barnard, Connoly Spiderman ( When was the last time we brought on a keeper... Worth the risk in my opinion... if not barnard off Bart in,
CFSFC Posted 13 October, 2011 Posted 13 October, 2011 But I thought we only took 1,000 fans north of London? It seems that we now take 1000 north of the midlands hope this helps. Be interesting to see how many we take to Coventry.
