Are we afraid of success...?

Unsure is not afraid, and it certainly isn't "more afraid of success than failure". This thread has turned up no one at all who is more afraid of success than failure.

And all the "unsures" are talking about money and future financial implications, which you insist isn't what you meant the thread to be about. So they don't count either.

Cortese is very confident, yes, Adkins is here to get promoted, yes. I have no problem with this whatsoever. What's your point here?

Lastly, as for your sense of humour, your first post was quite hilarious, so well done.

You must be glad you got that out of your system..

.... I know what you mean but Marcus wasn't around to count Arsenal's money !

But when he bought the club he didn't know he was dying (to my knowledge.) He bought it because it was great business. The idea that he would buy it and then lose a load just because he loved the club is almost as much of a nonsense as you saying that we would be allowed to spend tens of millions in January.

where did that come from...? I didn't say he lost a lot of money, but I do believe he formed a personal attachment to the club that was beyond his financial interest, and the fans display of sorrow at his passing suggests it was mutual.

When you buy a business you have to invest and you don't judge a company's success by profit and loss on the first year.

Most new businesses expect to " lose " money in the first 2 years before they can break even.

Keep going back to Cortese's 5 year plan. You look at it long term. Without naming any more stupid figures I expect to see

larger scale investment in ground improvements, training facilities, as well as the playing staff..but not all in January!

I'm finding it weird that David has apparently only just discovered the Liebherrs are worth £3bn. There was a bloke in the pub at Swindon under Pardew when we got booed off and were still on minus points in League One with "£2.5 Billion" on the back of his shirt.

Also, whoever made the point about only the Champions League qualifiers winning anything in the past 17 years (except Leicester, Brum and Cheats FC) seems to have forgotten Middlesbrough's League Cup and UEFA Cup Final, Bolton's European runs, as well as Fulham's Europa League final - and including pre-2004 Chelsea as some kind of big club is highly misleading, yet they, Spurs and even Newcastle have all had relative European success without megabucks since 1994.

"Winning things" is not the only measure of success in football anyway.

Where do you get that idea.? The point I (tried) to make was that people who own BIG money don't necessarily regard

tens of millions as big expenditure, whereas many of us would think £1 million was a lot.

Clearly the owners of Man.City and Chelsea don't blink at spending £20-30 million on ONE player! I don't expect Liebherrs to be so extravagant but they surely will invest BIG when we go up.

ABSOLUTELY ! (I read somehwere) ...apparantly Saints 27 year stint in the top was the 8th best record in League history,

even considering we won the FA Cup when we were still in the Second Division.
