saintjay77 Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Our Nigel and Ricky both missed. Tony Mobury and the Middlesborough captain took the Championship top spots. I actually thought our 2 were nailed on certs for the prize, I know its a bit of a curse to get the gong but cant see why they dont deserve the plaudits. Two people plying their trade in league 1 last season are leading the championship this season and still miss out? What more do they need to do? saintjay77 Posted 7 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Probably because they had a better month than us in terms of results? Is that the only thing its based on? On paper we are a league 1 team that is doing exeptionally well. Maybe I thought that kind of thing is taken into consideration? It does seem a curse so maybe I should be happy our 2 missed out but it would be nice to see them rewarded for doing as well as they have, which IMO is outstanding compared to anyone else in the league or anything I expected. On paper we are most certainly not a League 1 team. In fact, on paper I don't think we've ever looked a League 1 team. Of all the managers in line for this month's awards, NA had the "worst" form guide for the month; so it's no surprise he didn't get it. It's a pretty meaningless award anyway, and I'm pretty sure NA would swap not winning it all season in return for promotion.
Pilchards Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Who won it last month? If it was Brighton then good, as it's the kiss of death. Please keep that award away from our club as we want to win manager of the year instead.

Last season shouldn't really come into it IMO as we are all on a level playing field now. Taking the month in isolation, middlesborough have done better. stevegrant Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Hull each picked up 8 points in September while we only got 7. So for a league 1 team to get promoted and do as well as we have is outstanding IMO. I agree that we built a championship team in League 1 but the fact was we were just a league 1 team. I could argue that the last time we were in the Championship we looked very much a League 1 team and it was difficult to see things being any better at the time. Maybe your right on the form though. If thats all the powers that be look at then it was a fair result and winning promotion over any awards along the way is something I would take too. If we are still up there come the end of the season the monthly awards will mean sod all. But it would be nice to get some recognition along the way. Maybe nominated is enough? Scummer Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Middlesbrough are this years Huddersfield. People give too much credence to remaining unbeaten. Too many draws will be their undoing, their matches must be dull. I'd rather watch our 9 goals for and 6 against in September than their 3 goals for and none against. But the performance by the team's tells a different story IMO. Boroughs againts Cov wasnt good yet that point earns Mobury the gong. I suppose I was thinking more goes into the decission on who to award the gong too. I was expecting us to drop away with BHA as promoted teams tend to do well at the start before finding life allot harder. It again shows how well Adkins and Co are doing at the mo. We could very easily drop away in October, some tough games coming up. This is indeed all you need to worry about; if Nige wins the manager of the year award I doubt he'll care how many manager of the month awards he has. Still, we might still be n the playoff zone or worse just outside it. Having said that, by Christmas i see us a being a very solid mid table team, slipping down gently to about 17th by the end of a very comfortable season for a newly promoted team that made a modest investment during the summer. Too many draws will be their undoing, their matches must be dull. I'd rather watch our 9 goals for and 6 against in September than their 3 goals for and none against. From the reports I have read Boro have been playing 5 at the back this season (they call it 3-5-2), but it is really 5 defenders. Two of the 3 centre backs mark tight leaving a spare central defender, allowing their full backs to push on. IMO the system means they will always be a hard side to breakdown but they will only score a few goals this season. The system works well against sides that play a rigid / flat 4-4-2 system, because they mark the front players tight (by the 3 CBs) and they outnumber the 4-4-2 side 3 to 2 in central midfield. I think Nigel will know the strengths and weaknesses of their system and we may well start with a "Diamond" or at least get our front players to pull wide into the areas behind the fullbacks (one of the weaknesses of their system). Lambert is a master of pulling wide and dropping in behind the full-back as we have seen countless times last season and this. Either he's not picked up and ends up with the ball in loads of space or draws a defender out of the middle and creates the gaps that we've been seeing Lallana, Connolly, Guly and Chaplow marauding into recently. I think we will do very well against Boro.

How many of our players were league 1 players last season? That's what I mean by saying on paper. We are a league 1 team that has been promoted. Most promoted teams share the same kind of outlook unless the year of promotion they go out and buy a team of players from the league above. Once promoted a team earns the right to be in that division and over time becomes a team of that division. It's not a statement based on league position but a broad picture of where a team is. Factually we are a championship team and I am not trying to suggest anything different. Many teams that get promoted and stick with the promoted squad soon find themselves back in the league they came from. We are doing everything possible to prove we are worthy of being a championship team and the longer we stay near the top the sooner we will be looked as a team that deserves to be there. saintjay77 Posted 9 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 9 October, 2011 We are not a League 1 club, we got promoted....remember? Read a few posts up. I explained what I meant. Norwich this season are a Prem team, blackpool last season were a Prem team. Both teams are/were essentially using their championship team's like we are using our league 1 team. It's not having a pop or trying to degrade our team. Just thoughts on where we are right now and how well we are doing. I kind of agree that wining monthly gongs means sod all and would take promotion over every monthly, weekly or daily recognition going.
