maddog Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 After some info as im looking at purchasing a house in Terrier Close, Hedge End. I have heard some rumours that some parts of the road up there are a bit "dodgy" I have viewed the house 3 times and driven round the area and i havent seen anything that looks dodgy. Can anyone shed any light on that area?
dune Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 (edited) The name is enough to put me off. Sounds like something off a DAZ advert. Edited 7 October, 2011 by dune
Essruu Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 It's largely ok off of Maunsell Way but, yes, your informant has a point. There is a pocket of social housing in and off of Peppercorn Way - in particular Terrier Close. You might strike lucky with having decent neighbours, but you might also have some very anti-social scumbags. It's a shame, as it's a nice area. You could try parking up there during a normal day to see how many women sit outside their houses on deckchairs in their vests; Or, on a Friday or Saturday night to check out the beer can drinkers and general loudness. Our private close has a stretch of social housing further along the road and whilst it's not constant noise, drunkenness and slobby behaviour, I would never knowingly buy a different house near social housing people. maddog Posted 7 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Thanks for the feedback i have driven round the area quite a few times and from the 3 viewings we have had i didnt pick up on any bad area really. Its only when i spoke to friend who is more local to hedge end and they pointed it out that i started to worry. I currently live in 1 bed flat and we have a social housing block next door and like you say whilst they arent a constant pain but they are more untidy etc that our block, which really does effect the whole area. Do you happen to know a house number or what part of Terrier Close is social housing as im fairly sure the part i might buy in is not. Why did they ever think it was a good idea to mix social housing with private purchase!

Pugwash Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Social housing doesn't always mean the dregs. If it's being handled by a housing association for key workers, you're as likely to have policemen, teachers and nurses as neighbours.
Macey_J2 Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 Why did they ever think it was a good idea to mix social housing with private purchase! Revised building regs over the last few years have stated that new housing developments over a certain number, depending on dwelling type and size of development must have a certain % of social housing. I suppose its a way of integrating your typical social housing type of person/family into the rest of society and not creating slum type areas of large social housing estates such as leigh park or even worse around the country were some police are scared to tread. I dont agree with it, because from personal experience with friends living in these new developments, the plots designated for social housing stand out a mile once everyone has moved in because of the way the properties soon become untidy and are generally treated. I'm sure not all people in social housing are loud, untidy and treat their home with less care than private owners, some definately do.

Huffton Posted 7 October, 2011 Share Posted 7 October, 2011 I think Kelvin Davis lives round that way, at least I've seen him driving out of the estate. Not that thats a reason to move there obviously. Unless you're a stalker...

Certainly his lad used to go to a nursery close by (same nursery as my daughter....I'm not a stalker:uhoh:).
