The original long armed statue would surely have achieved this ;)

Was it long armed or short legged? Either way, the piccie of the original statue still makes me laugh a lot it was so bad. It kind of summed up that era in our club's history.

I see the idiots are out in force yet again. Look I think SMS is rubbish because of all the wasted potential. In comparison to certain stadia it is great but it is a real shame it is another flat pack stadium when it could have been so much better. That's not a dog at the club (the people who built it aren't even here!) just because that isn't what u like to hear doesn't mean you have to wet your pants just because it was me who said it.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree with that one.

I'm quite content with the stadium. If the opportunity arose however to build another more distinctive stadium then I would be extremely pleased. Your response didn't really merit a civil reply but ive done my best.

I am on my iphone at the moment. When I finish work tonight I'll give you a list if you like. Even if there were not any (not the case) there is still a he'll of a lot of wasted potential. It's not really a dig at anyone as we had to do it on the cheap at the time, but wouldn't you prefer a stadium that you can be really proud of and that is recognised as a stand out design around the world or at least in England? As I said, if cortese was exploring the possibility of a new stadium then I personally would be really pleased.

I posted the very same observation on here over a year ago as it was looking pretty shabby back then.

I did look up at it when I last got down to a game (notts forest) and noticed how much worse it had got - it is indeed a lovely shade of green mould over significant parts of the white structure.

It is more than a cosmetic issue and may cause upper respiratory tract hazards for fans from the fungi spores and bacteria if it is left unattended. Last thing we need is a dose of legionnaires!

I can't think of many stadiums that I'd prefer to ours. It's a flatpack standard design of course, but really, who cares? Bolton's & Huddersfield's look ok but they're smaller than ours, and I prefer the bowl arrangement we have. Arsenal's is a nice design but just a complete carbon copy of the Estadio da Luz, so hardly a stand out design. Other than those I can't think of any others that stand out; football stadiums are really just large, functional structures that house a huge pitch and thousands of people inside.

The only one I can really think is a fantastic stadium is the Allianz Arena. But then how much did that cost? And what would it actually add to us (plus it would look a bit daft doing that to a 32K capacity ground).

Definition of a decent poster. Krissyboy31 and spudgun whilst not agreeing with me gave a perfectly valid counter argument and also some humour. The usual people come on and make personal comments without addressing anything about the thread.

Perhaps when on a proper keyboard you could also respond to my question of the use of the word 'rubbish' in the context that I questioned it in my reply to you.

I'm unsure if I'm one of those described in the 'idiots' description so if you could explain either that you haven't been to many grounds so have a limited source of reference...that's fine in itself...I'm not accusing you of not being a 'uberfan' or any other such agenda but it would possibly put in to context a statement which, in my opinion, is factually incorrect.

I also queried why it would be necessary to use an emotive word like 'rubbish' when, as you are now explaining, what you meant is that it had the potential to be so much more. To me that's a little like saying that if the BMW had spent that much more on the 7 series then it could have been a Rolls Royce...they are both cars and even share some mechanical components but it doesn't warrant the BMW being described as rubbish surely?

Can I add my name to those asking which stadia are so much better than St Mary's?

No you are not as you replied in a sensible manner. Once I get home I will give you a list of stadiums I feel are better. IMO a ford focus is a perfectly fine car. In comparison to a bentley however it is rubbish. If someone had never used either before and you asked how they compared, it would not e surprising if it was described as such. SMS is a perfectly fine stadium but it's rubbish compared to many stadiums (not just football) around the world.

Grow up. You and a couple of others follow me around the measageboard posting irrelevant stuff after I have posted. It is incredibly pathetic.

My posts on this thread are more factual than yours.

For example,

Me: "Edit: Hypo is a troll."

Being as St. Mary's has a UEFA 4 star rating, I don't think you can call our stadium "rubbish", even by comparison to any other stadium in the world. It's smaller than a lot of the great stadia, and does have a basic and common design. But it is not "rubbish" by any criteria.

He can because he is Hypo.

It's rubbish because there are areas that could have been improved and it's not distinctive enough - unlike all the perfect stadia Hypo will list, when he's not on his rubbish iPhone, has finished his rubbish day at work and is back under his rubbish bridge.

why dont the mods ban this toothless smelly hoodrat? (lol)

amount of good threads he murders being the petulant, pedantic, argumentative and agenda driven turnip is plain for all to see.

The fact that he tries to camouflage it all under the umbrella of "reasoned" debate means jack when all he's doing is causing bickering and being an attention seeking little lap pup!

Dont want to see threads driven off track anymore.

kind request Mods, please take note, make it game over for hypoRatRiat! and yes i am telling you how to do your job

It's rubbish in comparison to many new stadiums and rubbish compared to what it could have been. At the time we had no say in the matter and were possibly constricted by finances, but lets not pretend that it's some super amazing stadium. It's a fairly average flat pack with little character of its own. Has the ability to generate a decent atmosphere, but had the potential to be so much more.

can't believe you can be so negative about St. Mary's. After so many years at the Dell, so many years of wanting to get out of that ground, I am more than happy to be at SMS. Yes, it needs a bit of a spruce up but it's a hell of a lot better than what we used to have !
