SNSUN Posted 4 October, 2011 Posted 4 October, 2011 I've just seen the JPT game with Accrington and Tranmere was abandoned after 39 minutes due to a "serious injury" to Accrington player Thomas Bender. Anyone know anything? Unusual for a game to be abandoned due to injury. Death?
SNSUN Posted 4 October, 2011 Author Posted 4 October, 2011 Using the Beeb for updates.

2110 FOOTBALL: More on the injured 18-year-old Accrington player Tom Bender, on-loan from Colchester. He collided with Accrington goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere's Lucas Akins, and after being treated for 25 minutes was stretchered off and taken to hospital. Sounds pretty serious...
saintscottofthenortham Posted 4 October, 2011 Posted 4 October, 2011 Poor lad. 18 years old and not only his career but every day life as he knew it looking in jeopardy. Wish him all the best and hope that it isn't as serious as some reports suggest.
SNSUN Posted 4 October, 2011 Author Posted 4 October, 2011 More news filtering through, the lad was given Oxygen and was on a drip as he was on the pitch, he was unconcious until he was in the ambulance leaving the ground, and it is a suspected neck/spinal injury. Horrific stuff - the players were so traumatised by the experience, that's why the game was called off.
Red Alert Posted 4 October, 2011 Posted 4 October, 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2045293/Accringtons-Tom-Bender-suffers-suspected-broken-neck.html couple of pictures of the incident. Sickening stuff hope he gets back and able to play the game again.
Gorgiesaint Posted 4 October, 2011 Posted 4 October, 2011 Heard the rumours about what the injury is. Hope the lad makes a full recovery.
Gorgiesaint Posted 5 October, 2011 Posted 5 October, 2011 Update from the BBC website... severe concussion http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15176078.stm
