Harry Bloggs Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Is it my imagination or is the P.A. system worse than ever? It has always been pretty poor but on saturday in the Chapel end I couldn't make out one word. Surely this is something the club should rectify. If there was ever an emergency situation in the ground and announcements were made noone would be able to understand them.

Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 I sit in the Kingsland and it was just the same as it always is. Total crap. I think it's due to destructive interference from the speakers. (Trying to remember O level physics)

Charlie Wayman Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Let's get to the point, the PA system at SMS has been a frigging' disaster from day 1 and nobody has been able to sort it out, assuming of course that the technical people are taking on board all our feedback criticism that it is crap and trying to fix it. On the other hand, knowing what an arrogant opinionated lot technical people can be, it is unlikely they have been listening as no doubt they think the PA has been the doggies bollockies ever since they first tested it in an empty quiet stadium back in 2001. Those people upstairs who permanently wear ear-plugs to tune out the noise of fans are unlikely to have noticed anyway. My advice to somebody up there is pull the effing stadium down and start again

Turkish Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 I agree. This has never been satifactory. For club that considers it facilities to be of premier league standard i have to say much of it is far from it. I mentioned the big screens on sunday but this coupled with the PA system are threatening to distabilise the SFC juggernaught. I bet Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool dont have their fans so discontent with the match day facilities. It's difficult to enjoy the matchday experience when there are so many things overshadowing what the players are doing on the pitch.
Turkish Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Oh noes!! Not the PA!! Adkins Out. YOu may mock but i doubt any champions league club has issues with their PA system. This is what we aspire to be and getting the basics right is half the battle.
krissyboy31 Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 I don't understand why they don't do what they do at the cricket and put big f-off speakers around the perimeter until they come up with a permanent solution. The PA has been sh!te from the day it was installed even Cowans acknowledged that. Saying that, most of the crap they put through the PA, I'm not fussed at not being able to hear. The9 Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 The PA is rubbish everyhere except in the toilets, where it is excellent. So any remodel of the ground should therefore be based on Fratton Park.

Somewhere In Northam Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 all to do with decibels fixing the issue would be a case of replacing the lot, which can not be done mid season
niceandfriendly Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Was it not deliberately made poor from the start because they knew Stuart f*cking Dennis would be on the mic?
Macey_J2 Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Cortese said he know's they're not up to scratch, and they are on the 'to do' lis,t but could cost best part of a million. When you consider all the others things on the list such as electronic turnstyles, it could be a couple of years before they change them.

rooney Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 I sent an e-mail to Chris Hayler, Marketing Manager, a short while ago about this. There seems a particular problem when the video on the big screen is on, rather than the pitch side announcer. The half time scores are quite clear too. I suggested a pilot in the Chapel whereby the speakers are moved about 12 feet under the canopy in order to "trap" the sound within the seating area. (Similar to those at Plymouth Argyle) He rang me and explained that the club are aware and replacement of the speakers and the screens are on the to do list , but priority is to be given to the ticketing system as this is revenue earning. He felt that should they try my suggestion and it was successful, everyone would want the speakers moved and this would be expensive at this time. captainchris Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 I was in the Kingsland and heard everything ! TBF you didn't miss much ! I was in the Kingsland North and not a word was able to be made out..................It is about time this was fixed. I'm no H&S freak - on the contrary but the point is well made about if there was an emergency not to mention the team news which I have no idea about until the players come out and I actually see them.......but no idea who is on the bench even then......In this aspect the Dell was DC in comparrison lol.... rocknrollman no2 Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Why not just turn off the pa system altogether, especially about five minutes before the game starts, when with the overloud music the club pumps out, nobody can hear themselfs sing and any attempt get a few songs going get drowned out. astrasri Posted 4 October, 2011 Share Posted 4 October, 2011 Well,if it's that bad how come the whole ground manages to hear when the Car Park is to be closed at the end of a game and the crowd must not invade the pitch at the end of a last home game. They must hear it clearly given all the heckling and abuse these two announcements generate. Just a thought.

The announcement is on both screens and as soon as the announcer starts speaking he his drowned out with cat calls. I don't think I've ever heard a word.
