Playing songs after goals are scored...

Of all the things to make their way across the Atlantic, one thing that really annoys me is when clubs play a snippet of a song after the home team scores a goal.

I first saw this up at Ewood Park. Thought it was pretty sad at the time, but forgave the Blackburn fans because they don't really understand what football is.

Now, it has been a long time since I've been to a home game, but I understand that we play Blur's Song 2 after we score at St. Marys.

I think the whole idea is a bit low-rent, and detracts from the only important noise - the sound of the fans. What are your views?

What we should do is have more music. Music for corners, music for throw-ins, music for penalties. Music for goal kicks is a no brainer, we could fit in most of the live version of Dazed & Confused in the time Kelvin takes in deciding not to pass it short.

Actually I'd like to hear jingles instead of music. Imagine how much revenue we could create if the tannoy was to announce the name of the sponsor every time a set piece was being taken. This could be the crucial difference between finishing in the top 2 or having to negotiate the minefield of the play offs. Companies would pay a fortune to have their name announced like that over the tannoy and we could plough that money back into the squad.

If we took this one step further, how about sponsored chants from the crowd?? I'd be bang up for organising a few tunes in Block 36 for that. Could pay for our season tickets if we sing loud enough. Who wouldn't want free football for just helping to promote a brand? The brands could even have competitions for fans to come up with the best songs. The winning songs get an airing at the ground and the winning composer gets to be a brand ambassador. Why has no one thought of this before? The future of football is here.

Music after goals, thanks Pap, but that's a 'no' from me.

It's actually a 'no' from me too, so don't thank me for it.

In fact, I emailed the club today asking why we're doing something normally associated with "mickey mouse" clubs.

Will let you know if and when I get a response :)

What I'd like is something I've seen when I went to see Frankfurt. The first name is announced and then the crowd shout the surname. Sounded very good!

Fairly sure they do that at Arsenal (certainly used to !).

Can get a bit complicated with names like Wojciech Szcesny but we should be ok, unless Bartosz Bialkowski is playing (and even that is not so difficult) !

Must be a full 90 video on saints player that clears this up...

Definitely happens.

Check out Saints vs Brum, All Angles Covered on SaintsPlayer.

After Lambert's pen, you can clearly hear "Song 2" being played.

My guess would be that it comes out of the same speakers as the PA system so wouldn't have thought so. Although maybe the PA system sounds worse in certain areas?!?....

Certainly in the corners is does, but I did 29 homes games last season and honestly cannot remember music after a single goal. I'll watch the extended highlights when they come out and listen closely.

I can confirm that music is definitely played after we score at St Mary's and that it is Song 2 by Blur. It sounds awful but you can barely hear it thank god.

Also, I like what Arsenal do. Saying the first name and the crowd saying the second. It sounds great. I would like to do that.

The mere fact that we can't even get the Lallana song off the ground doesn't give me too much hope of this ever happening though. I'm surprised the Lambert song ever caught on tbh.

Maybe because some fans are going mental when we score and don't notice it?

Whilst others stand up and clap.

Or just a lot of alcohol consumed by certain individuals and memory is a bit hazey? :p As a soberton at football matches I remember it happening all too clearly.

The Lallana song that is sung at nearly every match now?

No. No it doesn't. They do this at the Emirates and it is cringeworthy. One of the worst ideas ever.

why are you embarrassed by it..?

Firstly, it's what Mickey Mouse teams do. You don't see the big teams farting choons through their public address system.

Secondly, it shows a lack of respect to the opposition, especially as away goals are never given any fanfare. It's classless pettiness. If other teams want to do it, let them, and we'll mock them for being the scumbag peasants they are. We are Southampton. We're better than this.

It also shows a lack of respect for the intelligence, feelings and passion of the fans. We know if we've scored, we're more than capable of making our own noise and I haven't seen a single person on here defend it.

Nope.

I assume you're referring to "Adam Lallana *clap clap clap clap clap*" which I do hear every game and I would hardly call a song.

I mean the Cristiano Ronaldo song "Viva Ronaldo" with the name changed to Lallana obviously. It sounds so good resonating around the stadium and can go and go forages. Some people suggested it on here over a year ago and it was popular, but never got off the ground.

Are there any other United songs we could change, or do we get them all?

Another Germanic thing to get to grips with, probably last as long as the 'Bremen corner' thing which I thought we might see this season at SMS but has not returned.

Arsenal do the surname thing when reading the team sheet out.

Thats just to check that the bloke next to you hasn't fallen asleep yet.

Well I just went on iTunes and listened to the song and realised that this is played after our goals. I am a season ticket holder and can honestly say that I never consciously noticed it until it has just been mentioned. Pointless if you ask me.
