Common sense IMHO and I notice that Maude, in the same breath as saying that savings paid the £1billion needed for bin collections and not increasing council tax, said they couldn't cut employers NI as we have to pay off the deficit.

Idiots the lot of them.

Indeed and Maude is one of the more sens ible ones. The lack of common sense on both sides is staggering.

I would also like to see tax breaks on companies that export, to encourage more exports. This would help the manufacturing sector and help to create real jobs.

It seems as though neither side really wants to get the economy going.

Anyone seen anything on Theresa May's ridiculous cat story... that someone was not deported due to the fact they owned a cat. It turns out it was made up. She is utterly incompetent.

I said as much on the other thread.

This was not from some Local Councillor or some old biddy Party Member going off on one, but by the Home Secretary who is charge of such a sensitive area. If she's going to lie in order to pander to the xenophobic right wing of this country, then I'm afraid she's in the wrong job.

It's an area that needs an honest, sensible and rational debate, but I'm afraid her lies and mischief making are worthy of contempt.

"And I am not making this up"

No, of course you aren't Theresa.

She will probably claim that it was someone else who made it up so that her statement was factually correct...

Now this ****es me off...

Considering the story isn't true, the article and headline are VERY misleading. I see they sort of cover themselves with the 'claims' part of the headline, but still, the average Mail reader will not pick up on that.

I respectfully disagree. The article and headline quite clearly concentrate on the disputed nature of the story.

I disagree with this because no-where in the headline does it state it is false. And nowhere in the article does it slam it down as false. It leaves an air of 'truthfulness' about it, seen reflected in the comments section. A better headline would be 'May cat claim false'.

Illegal immigrant can't be deported because he has a PET CAT, claims May (though Judicial Office says it's not true)

No ambiguity there as far as I can see.

Ok. We'll have to agree to disagree then. No worries.

Ah, my mistake... the Daily Mail have totally edited the article in the last few minutes.

A bit like the time they edited the article after the teachers strike on the poor girl who died that day(after they effectively blamed teachers for her death). They must have realised their article was ridiculous.

That was the only part of a cheap and ill informed shot from Ms May that got a giggle out of me. No Theresa you were making it up and if you had any decency you would apologise PDQ.

I like this from the 'sixth LibDem in the Cabinet':

'"The victorious British, who had fought fascism, actually took the lead in drawing up the European convention of human rights … This was the idea to get values established across the former fascist parts of Europe, to make sure we got back to universal European standards at least of individual liberty – the thing for which the Conservative party stands most strongly inside the British political system." ( That's Ken Clarke if you couldn't work it out ).[/url]

Humpback Bridge won't like the Conservatives now being the party of the NHS, because unlike Labour and the Lib Dems planned cuts the Tories have not made cuts. Just look at Wales under Labour and the NHS cuts they have orchestrated.

The Tories are the party of the NHS. FACT.

christ, he is laying into the EU today

He needs to win back the UKIP vote, but he will be judged on actions rather than words. What we really need is a majority Tory government (without the Yellow bastards) and then we might see some action.

Really laying into the Liberal Elite. It really brings home that despite the difficult times, it's so much better to have got rid of the Nanny State Labour lot.

Both Liberal and Authoritarian! A brilliant contradiction.

Such is the way that the Superior Socialists operate. They are the guardians of Liberalism on their terms.

all good sound bites - will they translate into decent policies?

Exactly, he's a modern day Ted Heath. He's basically bought into the present Political Consensus. Nothing radical here, just an extension of Blair's free market approach to schools and hospitals and a slightly tighter squeeze than Labour would have given us.

We're still letting too many prisoners out early, letting too many people in, ignoring too many crimes, letting Europe tell us what to do, taxing the people too heavily, over burdening business with too much red tape and spending too much money on welfare and hand outs for people who dont deserve it.

That speech could have been written for Tony Blair.

We know that Cameron's been consulting Blair on Middle East matters and is an admirer of him, so perhaps he's getting him to write his speeches.

You really think it is the Liberal Democrats stopping the Coalition from taking action on the EU?! Dave and co wouldn't dare make moves to leave the EU.

As another Saint said, all soundbites, playing to the "Daily Mail" gallery and nothing really substantive in that lot.

I'm just struggling with the lack of leadership and in particular the vision of growth, the vision of what UK should look like (inc stuff you have mentioned) and how we're going to achieve it. It's easy to knock stuff (and cut stuff) and get applause for bashing the obvious right wing pet hates, but where's the vision??

The only ones I can think of haven't been very well explained or received (NHS Reform, Big Society etc)

Interesting to hear that they had to round people up and ask them to go to the speech as the hall was looking a bit empty.

Can you imagine wanting to sit in a room with such inspiring personalities as Gove, Hague and Osborne et al, and then sitting through a speech by Cameron pretending to laugh and smile? I hear Moss Side was seen as a better alternative for many back benchers...

So the fact that they come from a tiny self perpetuating elite who have been running this country (and bleeding us dry)since the Norman invasion doesn't matter then. We are just being nasty to them for no good reason?

History seems to mean nothing to the likes of DD, but for liberal and labour governments he and his fellow naval ratings would still be subject to the cat. On secound thoughts not such a bad idea.

Given the proportion of the 'great unwashed' who are willing to have their opinions delivered to them in the media, and that media's bias, it is hardly surprising. Unfortunately image is everything, and DC has better PR and lacks a speech impediment.

What nonsense.

Who are you to decide how other people arrive at their opinions? Perhaps yours were delivered to you by the BBC, or a work collague, or a member of your family, I dont know and I dont really care, they count as much as any member's of the "great unwashed" do.

Why do you assume that any right wing opinions are "delivered" to people, but your "right on Leftie views" are a result of your highly intelligent mind and formed by principles?
