Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 2 October, 2011 Posted 2 October, 2011 It's strange what goes through your mind first thing in the morning. I woke up thinking about iconic images that defined Great Britain and were universally recognised, and I started to compile my favourites. In no particular order I came up with: The Spifire Britannia Stonehenge Tower Bridge Union Flag Nelson's Column The Houses of Parliament The Forth Bridge The Angel of the North The original Mini What others mean 'Great Britain' to you lot?
Quickfire Double Posted 2 October, 2011 Posted 2 October, 2011 To this day, still good to bring at least 3 types of tear to my eye!!

I don't think the 'Angel of the North' or 'The Fourth Bridge' are that well known outside of the UK. They certainly aren't over here. When I have asked my students to mention some Iconic British symbles they have mentioned things like: The Beatles A Bowler Hat Kilts ManUre/Liverpool/Chelski Shakespeare The Queen/Buckingham Palace Soldiers in bearskin hats as well as the London landmarks you mentioned and Stonehenge.

Saint in Paradise Posted 2 October, 2011 Posted 2 October, 2011 On the corner of Spring Road and Sholing Road where the Mobil garage used to be there was just a blue pillar with a blue light that used to flash when Bitterne wanted to contact the local plod. That box was much to modern for him .
