Freaky and eccentric place. We were staying just up the road in Lydford and popped in for a drink. Crap pints though...poured out of a big commercial plastic bottle. :(

Thats a real shame last i time i went they were serving cider from the barrel . I only managed four pints at lunch time and then had to walk five miles across the moor. That was fun

Think your talking about the place in looe? Think it was run by gypsies years ago that pretty much lived with the monkeys. It's still going but I've never been. Not seen them at any of the conferences the world governing bodies run either so not sure if they are in that circle or independent.

I did a project for this at my university and they are all professional now, no gypsies anymore as far as I could tell, call ahead before going though, Looe is a nice place in general though! They have the British Art Show on in Plymouth at the moment if you're into that stuff...

Is it worth visiting? The monkeys I mean.

I'd say yes, it's pretty unique the way you can get right up close to them but it isn't huge so I wouldn't travel miles and miles to get there, if you call they might give you a guided tour which would make it more worth it but if you're interested in monkeys its really good.

Any idea what the hotel is like? Wouldn't bother me BTW but not sure the girlfriend would be too thrilled!

Very nice i believe, never stayed there but been to a few wedding receptions, right on the river so cracking spot if the weather holds. Must confess i've used the pub next door a lot more where the food and drink has always been good but think it's all owned by the same people so would have no fears about it... My wife says i've certainly taken her to worse...
