Watford View Of The Game

They weren't lucky, they were better than us and we were absolutely useless.

First was a penalty, second was definitely a penalty, third I don't think was deflected at all, but the marker just stood and watched him and the fourth was just a good goal, but should have been closed down.

We were absolutely awful, and we didn't look like scoring up until the first goal, we weren't better than them, we just sort of contained them a bit.

They honestly should have hit double figures, few sitters, Lallana hit the bar, Lambert the post, Gilmartin fumbled three balls at their feet and de Prado was one on one within about 10 minutes.

Strange, because they could have been ahead before we got going, and some of our defending was comical early on. In fact we made them look competent for about 25 minutes, when all indications were that they are gash.

Obviously we were watching the same game, unlike some that post on here.

If I was their manager or fan is be worried about that lack of arseh*le in them, no fight at all and gave up when the second goal went in. Signs of a team that might struggle.

I do wonder about some of the knee-jerk cobblers on here, both positive and otherwise. We were poo for 70mins at Burnley, for long spells at Cardiff, and early on here. Our fitness, relentlessness and a bit of luck made the difference over the 90 in the end, but we've ridden our luck in the past few games and W1 D1 L1 is about right.

What I did enjoy was Fox's improved defending, short passing and reluctance to force 50 yard passes all the time - he looked like a good addition today. We clearly have a lot going for us but let's not think we're the finished product by a long way.

Why do i suddenly feel sorry for anyone who is close to you., partner especially. We rode our luck thats true, but you look at any team that has been promoted from his league and im sure they all rode there luck at times. Even Man u were lucky today ffs

Nonsense- you set the bar ridiculously high. Games are always going to be closely fought, especially away from home.

There were points at Burnley in particular when we struggled but the key fact is that in none of the three games were we truly stretched or had our backs to the wall and Kelvin was our man of the match. Indeed, we created the better chances in each game and by some margin. When you create more than the opposition, you generally expect to get something from the game. That's quality not fitness, relentlessness or luck. If anything, 4 points from 9 is slightly disappointing- at the very least, we should not have lost to Cardiff.

While there is plenty of scope for improvement (this is not news - we knew as early as the Millwall game things things will be tough this seasons), I'd say the champagne football from other games as well as two seasons of turning up, going through the motions and winning comfortably in L1 have gone to your head a bit and you both underestimate and overestimate what it takes to win a championship game of football.

Watford manager Sean Dyche said: “We did not keep the ball well enough. You’ve got to retain the ball, never more so than when you play the best teams.”

Apologiesfor posting something that doesn't fit the saddo view of us being a team, but that made me feel chirpy this morning

All they do for the first 20 was keep the ball, no real movment of vision in final 3rd. Then, when they went 1-0 down they stopped! Second half we really could have had 7.

Well its a good job all the other teams around us are slipping up then. The Burnley and Cardiff results were no surprise to me?

When we went in one up at half time, I honestly expected us to draw at best even with the lead. We were a different team in the second.

Incidentally, back to the op, I got the impression from the watford forum that the Prentice guy that posted it was at the game, didnt sound like a radio post like 70's Mike reckoned?

Agreed - a lot will only remember the 20 mins or so of us taking the p**s out of a knackered Watford side that had long given up trying, didn't really reflect the game as a whole. Also, you can tell a lot of fans don't go away from home - we really didn't look too good for large parts of the Cardiff and Burnley games - as Adkins has said after yesterday's game - let's not get too carried away yet.

Did we not create more chances than both Cardiff and Burnley? We did and they were enough for us to get something from both games.

Yesterday's scoreline was more than a fair reflection. They looked competent in the first 20mins without really looking threatening. After the pen, things changed and we really should have got a 2nd before half-time -well before we found space to knock it around.

Of course, you have to ask why teams tire - its not just down to superior fitness; but the way we set up and get teams chasing and closing us down. That's the advantage of attempting to play possession football, even when we're not playing well - and it shouldn't be a surprise that we get chances in games as time goes on.
