Turkish Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 What was going on today? Not working at all during the first half. I am not impressed at all, how are you supposed to enjoy the game when you can't see the players profiles on the big screens? I like to give them a big cheer when their pics come up and get behind the boys and You can't rely on the PA system as this is poor quality. I hope our Man City cast off can agrees this issue as a priority. It ruined my matchday experience.
Thedelldays Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 this is a disgrace.....another in a long list that is destroying our season
scotty Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 ^what delldays said. If this continues, Adkins and Cortese should consider their positions.
Thedelldays Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 im surprised turkish can even see through all his face paint and oversized jesters hat
hutch Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 I can remember when a bloke used to hang numbers next to A..B..C..D..etc around the touchline, and you had to check your programme to get the halftime scores. And they still expected you to pay for your ticket. Bates out FFS
1976_Child Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Turkish you are a delight !! But on a serious note, on a high scoring day it does help to have someone keep a tally. Mind u turkey, they was back up for second half so quit yer nonsense
COMEONYOUREDS Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Another fine example of Cortese destroying our club. Pinnacle in FFS
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 I can tell you why. There was a problem with one of the cables. It was rectified during half time. Happy to help.
whelk Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Most annoying. I had no idea when to leave for half time beers and had to rely on my watch. I think i could have stayed 2 mins more as my watch is rubbish. Sort it out or i will be chucking my season ticket
Turkish Posted 1 October, 2011 Author Posted 1 October, 2011 I can tell you why. There was a problem with one of the cables. It was rectified during half time. Happy to help. Not good enough. I don't pay £500 a season for problems with cables FFS. First the long queues for pies and beers, then the poor PA system, the lack of advertising board sales, a sponsor no one outside of SO postcodes has heard of and now this. It's ruining my matchday experience FFS. Whatever next?
dune Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Did you purchase the special viewing spectacles? Watching the big screens now requires you pay a Television Tax. This is the Man City rejects first measure to revolutionise the club. I have heard through my contacts that as of next week you will be able to purchase all the extras with one convenient Bundle Tax and receive a free "Love Saints, Love Nicola" T Shirt.

Stanley Saint Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 And what were these big-screens showing when they 'weren't working'? Adverts, that's what. Is the club seriously expecting us to believe that matchday sponsors Solent University didn't plan this down to the last cable-tie?
boxosponge Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 I thought it ironic that our sponsor is a (multinational) IT consultancy that "enables businesses" Shame tghey can't manage to have the CCTV in the stadium working.
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Ha. Nice conspiracy theories. Only I know what really happened. ITK...
STEVEADAMS Posted 1 October, 2011 Posted 1 October, 2011 Perhaps we should go back to the old scoreboard at the Dell that never worked properly with the slightest hint of any rain. Remember it showing some funny things.
rooney Posted 2 October, 2011 Posted 2 October, 2011 The Screens are on the list to be replaced as are the speakers around the ground, but the new man is giving priority to the ticketing situation, as this is a main revenue earner.
Legod Third Coming Posted 2 October, 2011 Posted 2 October, 2011 The Screens are on the list to be replaced as are the speakers around the ground, but the new man is giving priority to the ticketing situation, as this is a main revenue earner. I would rather, unlike a certain other chairman, that priority was given to the team. I will happily miss our goals on a big screen (which doesn't show replays) than watch the opposition score on gleaming screens that cost the same as a striker....

Inclined to agree with thoughts, but increased inome and reduced costs from improved ticketing will lead to more revenue and thus better players. I believe the guide on the Stadium Tour told me once, that there can only be instant replays when Sky are at SMS in full, as they are the only ones who have the appropriate video equipment.
Hatch Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I think there should be more shots of the fans in the crowd during the matches. There is nothing I like better than seeing some gormless moron waving at the screen ( not at the camera as they can't work that out )
alpine_saint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 dont really watch the game on the big screens, and they cant be used for replays anyway, I seem to recall. But they are useful for checking time left at-a-glance. Couldnt care if the club dumps them but would want a digital clock showing time elapsed to replace them.

There could be an element of truth in that, I'll see if I can find out. I think there should be more shots of the fans in the crowd during the matches. There is nothing I like better than seeing some gormless moron waving at the screen ( not at the camera as they can't work that out ) Unfortunately that's not possible - the camera that supplies the feed of the game is the BBC camera that records the game for the Football League Show.
Dig Dig Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Yet more pettiness and lack of appreciation of the saints fans. I know we are top and all that but I really feel the club could suffer in the long run because of all this. Such a shame.
Spudders Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 There is nothing I like better than seeing some gormless moron waving at the screen ( not at the camera as they can't work that out ) So true!
miserableoldgit Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Mind you, it was bad enough watching the first half display live, without having it played out on two big screens as well.
Dimond Geezer Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 dont really watch the game on the big screens, and they cant be used for replays anyway, I seem to recall. I don't usualy watch the screen either, but they are useful when the barage balloon of a bloke who sits in front of me needs to get up to let his kids out, just as Saints are attacking, I just need to look to my left to see what's going on. They used to show replays, but I don't think this has been possible since we were relegated from the prem.
Barry the Badger Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I did wonder if it contributed slightly to the wierd atmosphere around 30 mins (as well as the scorching heat and the fact the football was pretty terrible), people around me stopped watching the game and were instead trying to work out when they should go for the half time beer/food run. I also reckon quite a lot went down even earlier than usual.

As a courtesy to the paying customers could the players not be persuaded to forego their usual goal celebrations and re-enact all goals in slow motion instead ?
Mozz Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 There could be an element of truth in that, I'll see if I can find out. I think (from memory) that it's any game that is being 'live' edited in an OB truck outside as they just pick up their feed. As such it could be if a game is on oversees television or is a 'featured' game on TFLS/FA Cup highlights etc rather than only Sky games.
Clash City Saint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I can tell you why. There was a problem with one of the cables. It was rectified during half time. Happy to help. I blame my best mate as he was given the job of installing the electrics to both screens, but in fairness it has lasted over ten years without fault, more than can be said for some of his work. (Joke Neil)
alpine_saint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Have the screens still got dead pixels (black patches) in them ?
Ken Tone Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 As a courtesy to the paying customers could the players not be persuaded to forego their usual goal celebrations and re-enact all goals in slow motion instead ? Now that is a brilliant suggestion. Could help some of them improve their acting skills too ....useful when diving, feigning injury, claiming a throw-in when they've just kicked the ball out, etc
The Cat Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 They should be used to just show footage of wobbly breasts. Both male and female in case anyone accuses me of being sexist.

Not sure when I'm next due to cover a game but I'll make a note to find out.
Lets B Avenue Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Cardiff showed replays last week. Different rules in Wales?
SNSUN Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I personally think the club should be rewarded for bringing in this fantastic, deliberate, energy saving scheme. Switch off the TV screens, Switch off the floodlights, and make the players walk to away games, thus improving their carbon footprint.
hasper57saint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I'd much prefer to watch the game as it happens as the 'Big Screens' NEVER show fouls, goals or penalties. The only thing they are of use for is the 'time' and even then they can't put the add-on up. Save energy. Abandon the screens!
RonManager Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 I'd much prefer to watch the game as it happens as the 'Big Screens' NEVER show fouls, goals or penalties. Legod Third Coming Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 But how will we know what the score is? I have found that by folding one finger back on the left hand for our goals and the right for the opposition, I can keep up. I'm fecking dreading a 6-5 though...
Badger Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Mind you, it was bad enough watching the first half display live, without having it played out on two big screens as well. Yes, at one point when the Watford player was alone in front of goal I instinctively reached for the handset to see if I could find the Coronation St omnibus edition instead.
markr27 Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Have the screens still got dead pixels (black patches) in them ? Yes. The Northam end screen has had the same patches present that have been there for the past few seasons.
bpsaint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 Seem to recall hearing that to continue showing replays would cost a shedload of money, hence why we haven't done it since we left the Prem. It's true that we do use the Sky feed for games that are being televised from SMS and up until a few years ago used their replay facility, but it's whichever Saints employee that controls them now puts the adverts up instead of replays.
westofshannonsaint Posted 3 October, 2011 Posted 3 October, 2011 As a courtesy to the paying customers could the players not be persuaded to forego their usual goal celebrations and re-enact all goals in slow motion instead ? this would be the best goal celebration ever
