Window Cleaner Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 And before that George O'Brien - he did miss the odd one but nobody struck a penalty harder. not even John Paige ??
sfc4prem Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 I wonder if Rickie will ever miss a pen for us... The way he strikes it with such power and accuracy, must be very hard to save.

I get nervous when he takes them now simply because he's overdue a miss! My Bristol Rovers supporting mate reckons he didn't miss one for them either. I thought he'd ballsed up the one against Birmingham the other week, it hit a bit too much of the post for my liking

Saint_lambden Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 Well looking over the highlights again, you can see why Watford were aggrieved with the first penalty as it doesn't seem to strike his hand. The 2nd one, right in front of me, seemed soft at the time but the highlights show that Mariappa is holding, although it's more 6 and two dozens with both players doing holding to some degree. Rickie goes down when the ball goes over him but you can see why the ref gave it. The passing move in the second half to set-up Chaplow was phenomenal, Barcelona-esque. From the Kingsland we couldn't see the what happened for the first pen, just that the ref said hands but Watford actually didn't argue the decision at all. They surrounded the ref at the 2nd pen decision and from where we were sitting that was cast iron.
View From The Top Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 From my seat in The Chapel the 2nd one was as cast iron as they get.

Post #12 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?32941-Football-League-show-Highlights That shows it clearly what the ref saw.

fanimal Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 Picture 9/54 on the OS gallery shows the blatant handball for penalty 1.
Mozz Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 Fairly sure that the photos that make it a look like a handball are actually showing moving away from the bodies having hit Lambert's head and give a perspective that make them appear to be showing a handball. The various camera angles on Saints Player show that when the ball comes down it goes nowhere near a hand and the point of first contact seems to be Lamberts head. Good, we'll have plenty of decisions go against us so nice to bank one for the team
rpb Posted 3 October, 2011 Share Posted 3 October, 2011 not even John Paige ?? I can remember seeing him score two penalties against Bournemouth in 1960, I'm pretty sure that he placed rather than blasting them.

Ah it's so far back. I remembered him as a down the middle blaster myself but wouldn't be surprised if that's wrong, wasn,'t very old at the time he was playing either.
