dannysfc Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 I was at the game last night and was stood up not far from the back and there were some of our "fans" behind me who started to be Racist and started to say when one of our players who had the ball and that when Guly was on the pitch and one of the "fans" said: "Pass it to that Monkey there" referring Guly to a Monkey which I thought was absolutely Outrageous and that I wanted to say something to him but I didn't know what reaction I'd get if I had said something!?! And I thought that we had stamped out the Racism at our club but some "fans" think that it's funny to carry on being Racist so am just wanting to see what people's thoughts are!?! Apart from that I thought the actual game was OK even though we lost as we're still Top Of The League as Middlesborough dropped points last night which was Good! Thanks! COYR !!! Lighthouse Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 So if I have this right, one Saints fan has made a racist slur against a player. I agree he's a complete c**t for saying it, but that's hardly endemic of Saints fans in general. If you get 20,000 people in one place, you will invariably get a couple of kn*bbers in there, just report them to the stewards.

pap Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 I have to ask. Are you surprised? If my experience on this forum has taught me anything, it's that the only thing that unites the various vagabonds who post here is a fondness for a certain football team. Do they all lean to one political side or another? No. Do they believe the same things? No. Whilst I personally abhor racism in any form, it would be unrealistic for me to expect people to agree with the same things I do just because they follow the same team. Challenge it if you're brave enough, live with it if you're not, but don't expect people to hold comparable social views just because they happen to support the same team as you do. The Cat Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 The people that stood at the back and say they didn't hear anything were probably nowhere near Danny. We had almost 2000 there, the back is quite long. Like every club Saints has a small minority of people who hold unpopular views on race. Sometimes you'll hear these people, sometimes you won't. At West Brom away one year (Premiership game we lost 1-0 due to some inept goalkeeping from Paul Jones) there was a middle aged bloke in front of us being pretty out of order to Jason Roberts. Me and my mate asked him to stop because it was clear there were kids near us who were looking a bit scared. When we asked him why he wasn't abusing Paul Williams (the only black player in our XI) he said, "it's because he's our n*****".

Going on about how racist Millwall fans were with one large section of the crowd constantly singing siel Heil, it was the away section singing seagulls. There was an article in the London Evening Standard after the England V wales game where the journo condemns fans using giant foam hands for giving the thumbs down to the Welsh national anthem. Is the giant foam hand about to become a symbol for racism in the UK? I can see the EDL issuing them at marches to give thumbs down gestures to local Muslims. Don't you remember all those kids in the audience of Gladiators with their big foam hands pointing down everytime one of the black Gladiators came out? Shameful. I often remember Saracen being the subject of abuse and many thumbs down. Although more shocking was the treatment of Wolf, despite being white he was a figure of hate for his foreign appearance, the long hair made him look like an Eastern European, ironically the kids of then are the adults of today and blame Eastern Europeans for the lack of jobs in the UK. Surely the things are linked? It is no surprise racist groups pick up on things like giant foam hands to spread their message of hate. Who would have thought cuddly toys like the gollywog, or the black man on the from on jam jars would be banned back in the 70's and be considered racist? I think the giant foam hand should be banned now before the hate filled message spreads. Kids need to know giving the thumbs down to anyone is hate filled and in many cases racist. Saint Stimp Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 You'll always get some individual morons. A while back I had the voice of what I thought was a small boy in my ear complaining about the ref being 'probably one of them Muslims or something'. I was sat next to my mate and his dad, both of whom are Iranian... At half time, I turned around to find it was a woman in her mid 20's with two kids. She continued to spout through the second half, even nudging my friend's dad at one point, saying 'this ref's an idiot, probably Muslamic right!?' Sorry, you may not like it but if they are being used to give thumbs down gestures to other nations then what is to stop the EDL or BNP using them to so the same on thier marches? I can see thousands of EDL marching through Bradford, Oldham etc with the EDL chanting "get them out" whilst using the foam hand to give the LOCAL mulsims the thumbs down. Is that the sort of behaviour you find acceptable or what to see? It's not a giant leap for this to happen, they are already being used inside football stadia to give the thumbs down to other nations national anthems and we all know football reflects society. It needs to be nipped in the bud and the only way to make a statement about this is to ban the giant foam hand immediately.

Why wouldnt they? It is already being used to give negative gestures, this is only the next step. Racist groups will pick up on anything to spread their message, if the giant foam hand is considered negative, which it appears to be, towards other nations then i could easily see them adopting this at the marches. It would certainly get their message across dont you agree? 1,000 EDL members marching, with giant white foam hands, giving thumbs down gestures to the muslims whist chanting anti muslim songs. We've had that argument before, Mido actually does look like the shoebomber bloke (Richard Reid, was it?) so it wasn't actually racist, it was in fact just a tongue in cheek comparison. Though admittedly it came from the back of the Northam, so I'm probably giving it more thought than they did.

Also, there is a text message service in operation and you can discreetly txt which row and seat they are in and someone will come and investigate. If you confront them direct they might just start on you. And I completely agree that they should not be referred to as our 'fans'. They only bring shame and dishonour to our club.
