SparkySaint Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 That was a great night. I remember getting angry with Surman after he spooned a late free kick wide after JPS had put one in the top corner. I still get tingles watching the youtube video
lambertsrightleg Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 i remember that like yesterday. I was 4 rows from the back and remember the ensuing OWTSGMI being one of the best I've ever heard

niceandfriendly Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 Remember going absolutely bonkers but unfortunately was in my living room rather than at the game. The overriding memory I have of Vicarage Road is that humiliating 5-1 defeat in the cup. One of the worst games (from a Saints perspective) I've ever attended. Sorry, shouldn't have brought that up in a positive thread!
richie Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 I was at that 5-1. Holy **** that was bad!!!!!!!!
The9 Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 I was at that 5-1. Holy **** that was bad!!!!!!!! So bad we were supporting Watford for a while. It was 5-2 btw. 4-0 down, we got one back in the last 10 minutes and they went and scored their 5th immediately. Saints actually won the last 16 minutes 2-1 whilst loads were cheering for Watford though. "Can we join you over there?" was a favourite. The9 Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 To be honest since we beat them in the FA Cup semi we've been pretty terrible against them - one of the only matches I've ever left early was the 3-0 home defeat, not sure whether it was the one in Jan 2008 or Oct 2008 now though... they beat us by 3 goals on a regular basis. JRM Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 Superb support that night, brilliant noise / atmosphere from our fans, hope we can recreate than again this season up there and other away games. i've got high hopes for Reading if we can take 4k up there

I think the most angry I've ever been at at Saints game was the 3-0 home defeat under Burley in 07/08. We we completely useless and Burley just didn't have a clue. We had Jermaine Wright playing at LB and Euell playing LM, it was the slowest most useless left flank I've ever seen. They made Van Damme and McCann look like Roberto Carlos and Figo. I think what capped it all off for me was Burley sitting there for 88 minutes like a lemon, then bringing on Adam Hammill with 2 minutes left (and playing him on the left where he is useless anyway). To make it worse, we had Licka and Skacel sat on the bench and Vignal wasn't even in the squad. Cannot believe the Scots thought he was there man, but I ruptured my anus laughing when they actually paid to take him off our hands.

Remember going with Tijuana Tim and being gobsmacked about how bad we were!!!!! We had a pretty decent team out (Crouchy on the bench!!!), yet were just abysmal on the night under the nightmare leadership of Wigley!! However, you young uns should think yourselves lucky compared to a League Cup nightmare 20 years earlier!!!!!! In the first leg we beat Watford 4-1 (a fairly easy drubbing). Problem was in the 2nd leg we got hammered 7-1!!!!!!

Think if my memory serves it was 4-0 and 7-0 but thats just pedantry on my part! Always had a massive dislike for them since. altho i did want them to win the 84 cup final for obvious reasons... You're right for the home game it was indeed 4-0, but deffo 7-1 away (although the 4-0 drubbing makes it even worse). Not sure what division they were in back then (I presumed the old Second) and we had to rely on them to score an og in the second game!!!!! Problem was in the 2nd leg we got hammered 7-1!!!!!! 4-0 at home. Nick Holmes scored from the halfway line. We then went to the 2nd leg as it was a new ground for us and you never know, we might not play there again or not for years. If only that had been the case. We were awful and they ripped us the proverbial. However, we scored near the end to get it to 3-1 only to concede straight away and again in injury time. 5-1. We've won on away goals. Not in the League Cup. Extra time and on comes 16 year old, Nigel Callaghan and he scores with his 1st touch. A volley from the edge of the box. Cue mayhem. Down comes the fence between the fans. In steam the Saints fans and yours truly gets a chunk of his leg taken by police dog. Final score 7-1 and to celebrate, our coach driver gets lost going home and drives us into Heathrow. "Were on our way to Europe" etc. etc.
