jamesfp1 Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 I'll start.. A win should keep us top and undo the damage of last nights missed opportunity. I think Nige should give De Ridder a start on the wing, especially as we are at home. I'm going for 3-1 Saints as we can't seem to keep a clean sheet. Graffito Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 I think it won't be like the Forest game. Watford didn't look up to much when they were on the box last weekend. I expect Watford will attempt to close us down, try to nick a goal and be happy if they get a draw. Hope we hammer them to make up for last night. Pilsmer Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 Just got my ticket for this. I'd like to see De Ridder play instead of Guly because I thought we lacked width on the left against Burnley and Lambert was often the wide outlet on that side. If De Ridder can provide some genuine width then maybe Lambert can spend more time in the middle (Also, I've not seen much of De Ridder and would like to see what he can do). I'd also bring Hammond back in for Morgan. Our clinical edge has been missing the last couple of games but I predict it will return and we'll win comfortably. 4-1. keithd Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 I reckon there will be lots and lots of defensive training drills this week, and Mr A will approach the game with the intention of keeping a clean sheet first and hope the goals at the other end will come. If he does I dont think that will be a bad plan necessarily as as been mentioned we've not been so good on the clean sheets this season to date Scrappy 1-0 to SFC

Kingsland Codger Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 Watford are one of those teams we have struggled against (like Swindon and Colchester) but last season we dispatched both Swindon and Colchester and fully expect the Watford bogey to be similarly smashed on Saturday. Was it against Watford we missed two penalties a few seasons back?
The Kraken Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 Would like to see us line up with Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Harding Lallana Cork Hammond Fox De Ridder Lambert Agree that de Ridder needs to start; I wouldn't play Fox LM though. I'd probably go with dropping Guly and having de Ridder on the right, see how he can link up with the Lambert connolly partnership. Guly and Lallana were very quiet last night, and neither of them is direct in the same way de Ridder is, I think having him and Lallana would give us some brilliant possible variations in play. Schneiderlin out, definitely, I thought he was dreadful last night.

Pilchards Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 Need to show some urgency during games, when we attack teams they find it hard to stop us, when we play it around with no purpose then the other team can defend us so easily these days. JRM Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 Defintely try De Ridder for Guly, but it is more away from home that i worry about Guly. I watched Watford v Forest on bbc last week and both sides were very poor, with Watford having little threat up front. However, we do always seem to struggle against them, and are surely due to drop points at home. Any news on ticket sales for this game? Watford won’t bring more that 800 I reckon, so can’t see it being more than 23-24k, going to be a hot sunny day so might boost the walk up numbers. Hammond to come back in too. They've been a bogey team for a while now... But at home we (and Guly) have looked very impressive. I'd definitely get Hammond in for Morgan, but stay with Guly & Connoly. Only issue would be if Connoly was feeling the strain of too many games. Over to Nigel. Hope for a great day in the sunshine with some flowing football. Looks like the consensus is that de Ridder should start. Hopefully Barnard and Cork will dominate midfield. Will give it full voice fingers crossed. Who would have thought we would have started the season so well. I am sure that NA will keep tweeking the side at least we have a great squad to work with. Hooiveld needs to learn to head the ball before playing another game as he was shocking in all departments. You what? Guly gave the ball away constantly, his touch was terrible. At one point he passed the ball to a Cardiff player when there wasn't a Saints player within 30 yards. He had a great chance as a ball came into the box but, instead of attacking it, waited for it to come to him and fell over trying to volley it. Hooiveld was class, can't think of one header he didn't win, made some great tackles, including a great last ditch sliding tackle in the area. His only mistake was the sloppy pass for the 2nd goal. Hemel Saint Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 I posted two examples there. Guly is undoubtedly a class player but he's way too inconsistent and last night was a dreadful performance. What!!! He was all over the pitch, covering for the gaps in our midfield. He saw a lot of the ball, which means he will make the odd mistake... but he was trying bloody hard last night. Someone in the away-end last night was moaning about GDP constantly, and even gave him stick, blaming him when he was receiving a hospital-pass!! I could not hold back and had to give the fan my 'different' version on GDPs performance, and was also supported by others around me (cheers chaps!) As another poster said, some people are unfairly giving GDP a hard time! The issue last night, I believe was the swap in midfield. Cork playing the defensive midfield role and Spider replacing Hammond and doing the attacking midfield role. I really don't think it worked. It left far too many holes!!! Saint_John Posted 30 September, 2011 Share Posted 30 September, 2011 It is not going to be as easy as some think. From reports they put alot of players behind the ball. Watford's away form (1w 3d 0l - goals 5f 3a) is better than their home form, and they will be a harder team to breakdown than leeds (0w-2d-2l), brum (0-1-3) and forest (2-0-3).
