Why don't you start threads on other ex-players who are no longer relevant to us, let's discuss Pulis at Aldershot. Why are people "proud" of chamberlain? He didn't want to be here and only started a handful of games for us, all he has done is boost the bottom line on our balance sheet.

Because it's yet another testiment to the amazing youth set up we have. Something we can all be proud of. Another shining young talent we've given to the footballing world. I can't help but to keep an eye out for how they are getting on.

Aside from the bollix which has already been discussed, why are people so amazed by goals just because they are in the Champs League? I mean, Olympiakos FFS, is that really any more impressive that scoring against a mid table Prem team like Stoke or Villa? It's like when Walcott scored his hat trick for England, people were talking as if he'd reached the pinnacle of World football. It was against Croatia FFS.

I watched the highlights and have to admit it made me smile when he scored, he wanted to move to a bigger club (most players do) and we got a very good price for him no need to hate him for that IMO.

 

I don't get it, either. Never mind the half-wits who wish injury on an eighteen year-old.

Hate is such a strong word and not something that seems to have been conveyed in this thread. Seems to me that some cannot see why a thread is started about an ex player who happens to score in a game for his new club. And i agree with them.

You missed the thread the other day when certain posters said they'd like OXO to get a career threatning injury then? Plenty of hate on that thread. We have threads about ex-players all the time, If they've played for saints I think it's fair enough to discuss them on a saints board or are all ex players names verboten?

Radio 5 live said before the game when they saw him in the starting line up, "It is great to see Arsenal bring young players through."

 

I shouted at the radio, "though where? through the ****ing door from Southampton."

 

Is Arsene now going to get credit for developing him as a player?

yeah we should all write to the bbc and ask them to acknowledge we are Arsenal's feeder club.

Hes not telling you how to be a Saints fan but how to use a forum, you can declare an opinion but you can't dictate what threads are started. Others might be interested.

 

It has no bearing on us but from a human point of view it is great to see a young english lad scoring in the CL.

I haven't seen that thread, so i can't comment on that, my point referred to this thread. Of course threads about ex players are not forbidden, but i agree with Pancakes post above in how odd it is to start a thread like this. Perhaps when WGS gets back into management, we'll start a thread celebrating his first win for his new club.

he was basically saying don't post on the thread unless you want to w&nk over a goal scored by a player who once played for us but is now playing for another club, while that was happening we were losing at Cardiff.

 

same goes for Bale and Walcott, couldn't care less what they do now.

Agree with this, it is like an ex-girlfriend going off to **** someone bigger, more successful and richer than yourself, while you are left to lose an argument to the ugly Welsh bird you are left with. To rub it in she is interviewed afterwards, she says the standard of sex is higher than she is used to but over time she will adjust to be at that level.

Even worse that all your mates saw it on TV in the pub and constantly rib you about it, how fit she is and how much better the new guy is.

I was calculating some stats from last seasons League games the other day and I found something interesting re Alex.

 

I think everyone knows that we averaged 2.00 points a game last season (28W 8D 10L) and that Nigel's record was 2.20 (excl MK) or 2.15 (incl MK).

 

I have used the Sports Echo's stats page (p14) of the 14 May where they list the teams to calculate the following :-

(p.s. there is an error on this page in that they said Adam played left midfield at Orient, but it was Ryan. so there may be other errors)

 

When Alex didn't play..... :- 9W 0D 3L (2.25 points a game)

When Alex came on as sub...:- 5W 1D 1L (2.29 points a game)

When Alex started the game :- 14W 7D 6L (1.81 points a game)

 

Our most important player as everyone knows was Adam :-

When Adam didn't play......:- 3W 3D 4L (1.20 points a game)

When Adam came on as sub...:- 3W 1D 2L (1.66 points a game)

When Adam started the game :- 22W 4D 4L (2.33 points a game)

 

I think most of our other important players averaged 2 points a game when they started, it was only Alex where the average was below 2 (1.81).

Now you could argue that with his "head down and charge at the opposition" approach that either

a) his teammates could not keep up with him, or

b) he struggled to fit in with Nigel's "pass and move" football and/or "change of systems (i.e. diamonds etc)".

 

I'm not saying he isn't a good player, but I was suprised how low his average was (1.81 points), "when he started a game".

It's funny really because a career ending injury would actually be the single biggest justification of his decision to move. The insurance pay out were that to happen would now be considerably larger as he is a multi million pound player earning big wages in the richest league in the world, he would no doubt be setup for life.

 

Back on topic I'm Pleased for the lad, I always keep an eye out for ex-players I've liked and hope they are doing well. I was made up when Kevin Davies made his England debut and even though I want Totenham to loose every week I was pleased to see Bale tearing up the champions league last season. Life is too short to be bitter.
