alpine_saint Posted 28 September, 2011 Share Posted 28 September, 2011 Hmmm. The Croft/Perry formula hasnt aged very well, imo. I am sure their series were rib-tickling at the time...

Apart from a few obvious candidates (Fawlty Towers, Fools and Horses) most comedies "show their age" over the years as they reflect the attitudes and situations of the time they are made. Indeed, the fact that they no longer appear as funny or relevant in the modern world could be seen as a back handed compliment to the creator as it shows they got the style and humour precisely right for the period in question. Even something like the Young Ones, which everyone fawned over in my school days, looks dated now and doesn't make me laugh as much as it did when it first went out in the 80s. IMHO of course. Foxstone Posted 28 September, 2011 Share Posted 28 September, 2011 RIP indeed - Great man ! Many of his comedies made me weep with laughter at the time - In fairness Allo Allo still does.. Then again I love some of the older "Un PC" comedy...
Minsk Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 RIP I have a channel called BBC Entertainment, which mainly shows many repeats of many old shows. Recently I have been watching Allo, Allo and Dad's Army; no matter how many times they are shown, I still find them funny.
Pancake Posted 29 September, 2011 Share Posted 29 September, 2011 RIP, but was I the only one who assumed this was the BBC F1 broadcaster when they heard the news?
