Leicestersaint Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I think he would be a good man to have on board. I remember him scoring a great goal away at Chelski.
Special K Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 He is very fit now (his words) just wants to play football for someone. What about Bournemouth? They could do with someone local who has a pedigree and can mix it at a lower level.
once_bitterne Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 He is very fit now (his words) just wants to play football for someone. Bollux is he. When was the last time he actually played a game? Even if he has recovered from injury he is weeks if not months of full training from being able to play at the level we are at. Which is exactly what Sheff Utd thought and they are the league below us.
eelpie Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 I think he would be a good man to have on board. I remember him scoring a great goal away at Chelski.2 The trouble even at Beat's peak was that even then he was a confidence player and his goals, excellent as they were, came in spurts between weeks of famine. We can't afford to have a player who at this moment in time would need to rebuild his fitness, confidence and form. Bournemouth is a good shout though. HCDAvgoodJFT
SaintRobbie Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 The people that are saying that BT is unfit, have they actually seen him ? he is certainly a lot leaner than when he originally played for us ! True… and a lot older at 33.
Chin Strain Posted 11 October, 2011 Posted 11 October, 2011 If we are so concerned with signing an unfit former striker can we get this one instead? Major lolage
COMEONYOUREDS Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/9359327.Beattie_training_with_Cherries/
John Boy Saint Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 He could wind up his career there quite nicely, not able to cut the mustard in either the English or Scottish Premier leagues (so the latter precludes the Championship too) Bournemouth would be great for him to be a big fish in a small pond.
once_bitterne Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 http://www.afcb.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10324~2513167,00.html Can anyone spot one notable ommission from his list of former clubs? They are very bitter aren't they.....

Cestrian Saint Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 True… and a lot older at 33. 33! FFS. Sheringham played until he was 40 & Connolly is no spring chicken either.
once_bitterne Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Erm... nope. That's quite amusing! They have amended it! It was picked up on the TUI as having no mention of us, I guess they noticed their ommission....

Gemmel Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 That would be a fantastic signing for them. Good luck Beatts
Huntingdon Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 I suggested on Page 2 #51 that Bournemouth should snap him up I have to be honest though, I didn't think for a second that he would be interested
Give it to Ron Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Bought a smile to my face....my birthday as well that day. gordonsimpson Gordon Simpson Of course, all James Beattie stories require the (admittedly unnecessary) following video link:
The Kraken Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Thought he'd get a game higher up. Surprised it's taken so long, but 33 isn't that old really, he could have a couple of decent seasons left in him. Really depends how much he wants to play. It's difficult not to question this to be honest; OK, he's not going to be as good to get a game in the PL these days, but it's perhaps no coincidence that he's without a club right now, even on a pay as you play deal. Back in September Sheffield United enquired about him but he told their manager that "he's not fit and he didn't know when he would be".
The Kraken Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Yep, and Blackpool also just seemed to be a "get me out of Glasgow" effort, 9 league appearances and zero goals scored. Apparently was offered the opportunity to train there and get fit / earn a contract but turned it down, it would seem he did the same with Sheffield United. Perhaps his over-riding ambition is just to come "home" to the south coast, and any extension to his football career with a local club would just be a bonus. Which, at just 33 years old and with his obvious ability, would be a shame.

sambosa75 Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 I have a feeling that's close to the truth...... Nowt wrong with it if thats the case. Good luck to him. Will be a great player for Bournemouth if they can get him fit and happy/hungry (in the footballing sense).
david in sweden Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 (edited) Yes ..... Blackburn. How does that make them bitter? correct - but did he actually play for Blackburn's first team ...? he was fairly young when he came to us ... ..and didn't he have a successful spell with ...Sheff.Utd ? ....scored quite a few goals as I recall..? (even if it is closer to home ).

But he did have a bit of class and reading between the lines ..they will sign him.. whatever his condition - as long as he can last 90 mins. Might not be a bad idea ,,,and they are L1. See if he can help them get a revival. ..maybe get a play-off place again ? B'mouths away form isn't too bad, but they have lost 5 of 8 at home ! (ouch) Edited 11 November, 2011 by david in sweden
steve f 48 Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 go away permanently with Beattie.I am sick and tired of twa's keeping on with this carp. He is muslim get over it!
Crab Lungs Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 I thought he had an attitude and wouldn't drop down... that's what many people who "know" him said, right?
the saint in winchester Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Would still like Adkins to snap him up. I know many of you wouldn't ....
Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 is he still banned from just about every bar/club in Bournemouh?

The Kraken Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 How do you know he's unfit? It's perhaps worth your while reading the article on Bournemouth's official site. The quote from Bournemouth's manager stating that Beattie has " just gone there to get fit and for us to look at him" does seem to suggest a certain scenario though.
SimonC Posted 11 November, 2011 Posted 11 November, 2011 Interesting one for us to ponder. Bits of the usual 'fat scummer'stuff on our site...but head over heart I think most people realise a fit and sharp would JB would be a great addition. I agree - if it did happen and he did really well, I presume he would be off to the Championship at the end of the season (not with us LOL!)..probably won't happen though, although the wage cap might rise a little with the russian involved now.

Chin Strain Posted 12 November, 2011 Posted 12 November, 2011 Never before have I never understood a post as much as this one. I think he's trying to suggest that he's 'she-ite'......
david in sweden Posted 12 November, 2011 Posted 12 November, 2011 How do you know he's unfit? an assumption on my part, but as he was released by Rangers in August, hasn't joined any other club since I'd guess many people would think a similar thing. He may have been training at home, but thats not the same as being with a squad, and playing practice games every week. He may well be "fit" ...compared with the average supporter...but playing regularly, even in L1... is more demanding than " a jog in the park" ..wouldn't you think ?
farawaysaint Posted 12 November, 2011 Posted 12 November, 2011 He will not be coming to Saints Fact Well considering he's training with the Cherries I'd say you're right
Supersubpuckett Posted 12 November, 2011 Posted 12 November, 2011 If we don't get promoted this season and lambert gets lured away, then I can see him as an option provided he proves his fitness with bournemouth
The9 Posted 12 November, 2011 Posted 12 November, 2011 Beattie started 1 game for Blackburn (3 subs), just for the record. And Bournemouth did quite notably include them and omit Saints (and Sheff U and Rangers) from the list of his previous clubs when the article was originally posted.
DaveyR Posted 24 November, 2011 Posted 24 November, 2011 Bounce this. Off to Sheff Utd for loan till mid Jan. Would have thought he would have preferred Bournemouth. Must be the lure of Red and White stripes!!
skintsaint Posted 24 November, 2011 Posted 24 November, 2011 Bounce this. Off to Sheff Utd for loan till mid Jan. Would have thought he would have preferred Bournemouth. Must be the lure of Red and White stripes!! how can he be on loan if he has no club?
david in sweden Posted 24 November, 2011 Posted 24 November, 2011 He wouldn't accept a pay as you play deal. if he doesn't get any other offers - he might... if he does well (as a sub.) he might revive what's left of his career, but not necessarily with u , but ..you never know.
david in sweden Posted 24 November, 2011 Posted 24 November, 2011 If we don't get promoted this season and lambert gets lured away, then I can see him as an option provided he proves his fitness with bournemouth Lambert isn't going to be lured away anywhere...and I wouldn't give Beattie any sort of contract beyond the end of the season - unless he really finds good scoring form !
DaveyR Posted 24 November, 2011 Posted 24 November, 2011 how can he be on loan if he has no club? Good point and well presented. Short term deal, my mistake. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15872372.stm
