Did you notice if he paid for his own ticket?

He's on the bench. We signed him on Wednesday and kept it quiet.

Seriously though, the tie implies this is more than a casual visit.

The funny thing is, with the lack of communication from the club these days, it wouldn't surprise me if something like this was true!

If he were to play in asuit it would certainly raise some eyebrows.

WOULD you sign for them?

YES i could.

If he loved our club this would of been a straight NO

Would it? Remember this is a man out of a job in a profession where you are unlikely to be working past the age of 35! would you turn down any contract at his age?

I would take him on a match to match contract and see how it works out!

What a load of crap.

We've already had reports from posters on this very thread that he is a fat bast. They've also said "no thanks".

Who are you going to believe? The ultra-reliable Beattie detractors or your lying eyes?*

*Nicked from, as anyone with comedy taste will know, the late great Richard Pryor.

Can only presume Dazza's outrage should also be held against Channon, Ball, Davies, Stokes and a whole host of others who went east after playing for us (many having given us a decent and memorable service).

But then again his approach is a tad hypocritical as on another thread he was saying that past players/managers had merely been paid to do their job, yet now he's asking for a kind of loyalty that would stop them from earning a crust (OK a fat loaf).

Hmm, so ex-Southampton players have some kind of emotional contract with the clubs where they have their greatest success then?

You're saying being a southampton legend is say, somehow, more than just a job?

Well, um, not if you are Matt Le Tissier, it seems.

Why should they - i know they are legends, but they were also paid to do the jobs they done.

So I this "being a Southampton legend" is just a job sometimes and some kind of emotional blackmail at other times. Decided by you as and when.

Beattie should sign for Pompey in a heartbeat if they want him. With the fan base we've got, we don't deserve any more bloody legends. Maybe Pompey might show some gratitude to him in the future instead of writing them off as employees paid to do a job like you do.

Absolutely. I remember it well as he was only about 5 meters directly in front of me when he hit that strike. He ran off to celebrate then after a few paces stopped, just as his team mates piled on top of him.

And after Bent scored the equaliser the first man on his shoulders in front of the away end was James Beattie.

Let's not be silly - his team had just won with the last kick of the game...what do you expect him to do?! it was nice of him not to celebrate his own, goal but it is ridiculous to expect him not to celebrate when his team score a goal!

Oh come on, if this were true surely one of our 'proper' ITK members would have been over this like a rash ages ago ;)

I know im not a attention seeker or the fact the news isnt so big it needed to be known.

James Beattie would be a great addition to the squad. If he played He would score goals end of. Most the morons on here would find fault in messi if he was mentioned in signing.

well, lets see

if he signs im sure all would be delighted/hoping he does the business

I admit this is a flippant post, but if Nigel brought the tea lady on at the moment she would score.

At this stage of the game...top of the league..it makes perfect sense to look and acquire quality cover options. Beattie has the credentials and experience to provide just that. No sense in alerting all the other contenders to his availability. Good move. Looks like its happening. I am sure the Don has it under control.

Something doesn't quite add up?

Bit bizarre he arrived in that attire and having entered the players entrance. He looks in better shape than last season.

Yet Adkins is claiming there's nothing in it? (I believe so?)

Anyone remember when Rooney signed for Man U........Sir Bobby stating that there was no way United were buying him, and that they were more than adequatly covered in that department. I expect an announcement soon.

Adkins wants him

Adkins has spoke to him

But " the club". Cough cough Cortese

Doesn't want any ex saints involved with the club there for the club hasn't spoke to him

Ok clear?

All depends on how well the gaffer can sweet talk the devil

Lol no need to be so melodramatic but I get what you are saying. I hope we get him would be great to bring off the bench. Imagine him scoring against the skates!

Thats why Jason Dodd and Paul Williams are employed by "the club"!!!

I think BT would be a really good option at least for the next few months.

Does that not apply to Jason Dodd? He's an ex-saint working at the club

Doddy has earned his position!

Do you see doddy getting involved with ex saints matches or events?

Maybe Cortese is of the opinion of never go back which is fair enough as that's his opinion, and hes the Boss!

so, NC does not like ex players back

except williams...oh and Dodd.

righto
