landford.saint Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 Watching a repeat of 'New Tricks' tonight, it started me thinking of Football related TV / Film questions. I'll start with 2 easy one's, and hopefully you wise people out there will pose some more brain taxing ones. 1. What's the link between New Tricks and a Midlands Club. 2. What's the link between Ian McShane, Saints and Wembley. Question 2 has nothing to do with Ian Macs dad Harry playing for Manure.
um pahars Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 (edited) I'm presuming 2 is when he starred in that film (yesterdays man or yesterdays hero) where he played some washed up born agaion player (a George Best type) and the match was used as the backdrop with him playing in a saints kit (Twas Yesterdays Hero) Edited 25 September, 2011 by um pahars wiki knows everything

um pahars Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 Exactly. And question 1 ? No idea (without cheating), don't watch new tricks so don't know what it's about
The Cat Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 Is New Tricks that one about the old cops with James Bolam (or Grandpa In My Pocket to all of those with small kids)? The only bit of the show I've ever seen featured that bloke that's in everything wearing an AFC Wimbledon kit. But they aren't from the Midlands so I'll shut up. krissyboy31 Posted 25 September, 2011 Share Posted 25 September, 2011 I know Alun Armstrong's character Brian Lane, nearly always wears an AFC Wimbledon shirt but unsure of a Midlands club link.

That was the name of a player Dave Jones desperately tried to bring to us from Stockport.

Think he scored against us at the Dell in the Carling Cup for Stockport when Jones was their manager.

I believe that west brom have a (Jack) Halford (Brian) Lane stand, would be far too tenuous to say it was a (Gerry) standing terrace though as everywhere had standing areas in the past. Am I close? Got it Hammy. Writer is W B A fan and deliberately named lots of charevtors after past and present players. But main reference is to Halford Lane Stand the oldest stand at The Hawthorns.
